  • "The cottage was lovely and the owners responded very quickly to the problems with the heating."

However, we could only recommend the cottage during the months of June. July and August as it needs its own heating controls. The additional electric heater does not get around the problem of the central heating controls being with the owners. This should have been made clear in the description. The bathroom needs an additional toiletries shelf and the stepping stone path needs sorting. The flagstone floor is beautiful but is very cold.

Thank you for your review and acknowledging how lovely and clean our cottage is. We are happy to hear you enjoyed your stay and we appreciated the 'thank you' message you left on the envelope within the property. The views on heating are of course subjective. As discussed during your stay, there are no issues with the heating which comes on periodically during the day. An additional portable heater has thoughtfully been provided so that the temperature can then be tweaked to personal preferences. We will however take a look at the stone path where the slates may have moved due to use so thank you for bringing this to our attention. Best wishes Vickie and Darren x Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely holiday here!"

It was our first one with our baby, so we were relieved at how cosy the place was. There is a comfy sofa to relax on in the evening and we enjoyed a couple of nights in! Perfect location as central to all the restaurants and bars. Vickie was on hand for anything we needed and was really nice and helpful. We would definitely go back to this place and glad we found it. Would recommend taking some slippers as the floor is stone so can get cold on your feet!

Thank you Leah, it was lovely to welcome you all to stay with us; you're welcome any time! You are right about the original flagstone floors! We always recommend bringing slippers at the time of booking. Look forward to seeing you in the future; I'm sure your little one will be running around then! Take care xx Property Owner

So cute! Perfect for us and our little for legged friend and so convenient for Bowness and all the local amenities! The owners are so lovely, when we mentioned that it was our dog’s birthday, they left a little card to congratulate him on him big day… a lovely way to escape to the lakes! N&H&P

Really glad you all had a great time and WOW... it sounds like you packed a lot of adventure into your stay! Many thanks for your great review and hope to see you again in the future! V&D&C&M&B x Property Owner

  • "Amazing place!"

We absolutely loved our stay at the Wonky Burrow. Located in the middle of Windermere, a short walk from the shops, restaurants and lake on a quiet residential lane, the accommodation is welcoming, modern, with everything you need. Directions to the property were simple to follow, parking near the property was easy, and the small touches of a lovely bottle of UK wine, and dog treats and tennis balls for our cockerpoos was a lovely find upon arriving! Although we didn't actually meet the owners in person, Vickie was easily contactable and very helpful with any of our requests. If we visit Windermere again, we wouldn't stay anywhere else!

Thank you for your wonderful review! We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay and treats; dogs are part of the family and we like them to feel included too. We hope to see you again in the future and next time, hopefully we'll meet 'in person' too. All the best Vickie, Darren, Cody, Marley and Bramble xx Property Owner

  • "One star for a comfortable bed."

En suite was good but no shelves for toiletries. Compliments end there. We found the place was not as clean as we would have expected. Various issues. We raised this with the owner who was in Italy. She went straight into a defensive mode saying to us that she knows our "type". We decided to contact Sykes to register the issues. Nothing happened over the weekend so we phoned Sykes for an update. At 6pm on the Monday Sykes phoned and told us to leave the premises immediately, quoting abusive and threatening behaviour to the owner even though we had never laid eyes on them. Sykes then realised this was a false allegation and phoned us to say we could stay. We said that this was unacceptable and would leave in the morning. As we left I took a video of the premises as to how we left it. Then as expected we were accused of wilful damage. Another allegation that was dropped by the owner. Our holiday was cut short and ruined all because we complained about some cleanliness issues.

Dear Mr Landells, We are sorry to hear you were not pleased with your stay. However, we reserve the right to ask guests to leave in exceptional circumstances when their behaviour and language towards staff and the property is extremely poor. We have never had to ask guests to leave and sincerely hope we will never have to do so again. We genuinely love welcoming guests into our property as it has been a labour of love and we always go above and beyond with little touches for every guest. With regards to the cleanliness of the property, once you made us aware you were unhappy, we had an independent inspection undertaken at the property which found the standard of cleaning to be very good. However, we apologise if it did not meet your unachievable standards. We were disappointed to see our sofa had been broken underneath, a lamp broken and the outdoor gate broken during your stay. We have had these fixed at great personal expense and we also refunded you for the 3 days you no longer stayed. We were not obliged to do this and had hoped this gesture would be appreciated. Unfortunately, it appears on this occasion, our property was not what you expected. We do wish you all the best when reading property listings more closely when booking future stays elsewhere to ensure they are what you are looking for. Property Owner

  • "Generally happy with the property!"

Nice welcome bottle of wine and note left upon arrival and on-street parking is quite easy to find. Location is also excellent for restaurants, bars and the lake. We were missing a few things in the kitchen when we arrived, but the owners were very responsive and got them to us ASAP, which was great! We would have liked to be able to sit out in the garden, but there was no garden furniture, despite it being advertised. Overall, the amount of noise heard from upstairs is not a lot but it is quite loud first thing in the mornings. Thank you for a nice first stay in the Lakes :)

We're very happy to hear that your first stay in the Lakes was a success! Thank you for staying with us and for your kind feedback. Sorry to hear that you didn't get to sit outside; the chairs and umbrella can be found in the understairs cupboard and the outside table was under the tarpaulin so not too sure how you missed them. We hope to see you again in the future and we'll definitely make sure that the garden furniture is out and ready for your arrival. All the best x Property Owner

Thank you for your lovely feedback! If you felt at home, as hosts we can't ask for anymore. • "I will give the good feedback first."

The property is very clean, renovated very well and the host was very welcoming even letting us in early. It is also very close to the lake, less then a 10 minute walk. The disappointing points is altho it stated there was a garden this is shared with the host family and is not fenced off, so wasn't able to leave the door open for air due to having my dog with me. There are no windows in the property so your only option is to leave the door open, which if you have your dog with you is not possible. The other disappointing thing is you are woken very early hours to banging from upstairs, so not the romantic hiking trip we had planned. The hot water runs out very quickly, resulting in an old fashioned strip wash out of the sink. It was also very cold. The guide left in the flat stated you can adjust the temperature by turning the radiators, but no heating came on. Luckily there are extra blankets in the property. I would definitely go back to the lakes but unfortunately would book a different property next time.

Many thanks for your feedback and recognising our high standards of cleanliness and renovation. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by any noise but this is not uncommon when booking a ground floor apartment. As courteous owners, we always ask our guests to let us know if they have any issues. If you had contacted us, we would have had the opportunity to explain that a water leak had tripped our mains electricity and therefore the boiler was not turned on to heat the water. We were unaware that this had happened and fixed the issue as soon as we noticed. We really want our guests to be able to enjoy the use of a garden and we are always looking at ways to improve the experience for our guests so you will be happy to hear that since your visit we have erected a picket fence and gate so all dogs will now be safe and enclosed. We chose to reflect the fact that the property has one window in the bedroom and a set of double doors in our 'Wonky Burrow' name. We're a characterful quirky property and we both understand and respect that not every property suits everybody. We wish you all the best for your future travels in the Lakes. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay and the family was very friendly."

The place it self is very nice and big enough for 2 plus our pet dog but if your dog needs to be out side it is not an enclosed space. You do need to make sure your dog is on a lead at all times when you are sitting out in the yard as there are other dogs in this residential area. The shower could be better as the pressure wasn’t great so if you have long hair you will need to spend longer in there LOL The family that owns this does live above and there was noise but on our last day they did say that some noise preventing flooring was going down so this issue may have been resolved. Overall we had a lovely time and if these issues are addressed we would be more than happy to stay again in the future. I would like thank the owners for the welcome treats for our dog and the bottle of wine for us it was a very nice gift and very thoughtful. Thank you ☺️

Many thanks for your review Lisa; we are glad that you all had a lovely time! Apologies for any noise that you may have heard throughout your stay but you are correct, we have now laid rubber soundproofing and a 12 inch plywood subfloor. Wiith our carpet, wood flooring and underlay throughout on order, we are positive that should you stay with us again - you will hear very little if anything at all. We also really want our guests to be able to enjoy the use of a garden and we are always looking at ways to improve the experience for our guests, so you will be happy to hear that since your visit we have erected a picket fence and gate so all dogs will now be safe and enclosed. Great comfy bed and plenty of room for us 2 and our dog. Felt very clean and fresh. A short walk into Bowness. Easily found parking on the street. We were lucky to have glorious weather so could sit in the back yard too. Owners were very nice and friendly and easy to contact if needed. As they live upstairs with their family we could hear quite a bit of movement. Just a note that the kitchen only has the very basics so we didn’t have any oil, salt, pepper etc for cooking.
