  • "What a lovely cottage!"

So spacious, light and airy. Very well equipped (would benefit from a smaller frying pan and better cooking utensils), very comfortable and beautifully positioned. The seating areas are well furnished and catch the sun with stunning views over to Windermere. It felt homely and welcoming from the first impression to the last. We had a really lovey stay here and hope to be back. A couple of points that could be improved; spring in the sofa has "sprung" and is a little uncomfortable. It would be lovely to have a welcome pack (as I've experienced in other cottages) even if it's only a pint of milk - although this didn't affect the quality of the stay.

So glad you had a lovely stay and even managed to enjoy some sunshine with the lake views. It is good to hear that you thought Oak Bank spacious and well-equipped - and I have taken on board your other comments. I'm sorry to say that we do not live locally, so providing fresh milk etc in a welcome pack is not possible. However, I do hope you found a pack with some washing-up liquid, pan scrub, dishwasher tablets and bin bags. Thank you for taking the trouble to give me feedback and I do hope you will indeed become one of our many repeat guests. Monica UPDATE we have now arranged for a welcome pack including tea, coffee and milk to await guest's arrival. Property Owner

The cleanliness was outstanding throughout and the layout of the rooms enabled everyone to have their own space as well as providing an spacious area for us all to relax in together. The kitchen was ery well equipped.

I am so glad to hear that Oak Bank met with your approval. We love visiting the cottage and are very grateful to receive feedback - especially when it is so positive. I do hope, like many of our guests, you might consider returning. With many thanks again for your comments, Monica Property Owner

  • "This property is wonderful - it’s clean, spacious and unbelievably well-equipped."

It’s also in a super location, half way between Windermere and Ambleside. It’s an ideal location for families too, just opposite Brockhole (you should definitely hire a boat (£50/hr for five people) and enjoy the vast adventure playground (free!)). It felt like home from home in minutes and we enjoyed playing the board games. We loved listening to the owls and watching the bats when it got dark (look out of the twin bedroom skylights at dusk - the bats fly in and out of the oak tree on the left). The recycling system is amazing (i.e. put it all in the bin and the waste contractor sorts it for recycling). Our only feedback, to make the property even more perfect, would be to pop a short handrail in the downstairs bedroom to help with the steps (I’m not sure I would have thought of this - my rather mature parents slept this room and said it would help!). We would love to come back, I’d go so far as to say that this is one of the loveliest holiday cottages we’ve ever stayed in!

Thank you for taking the trouble to provide such positive feedback, it is much appreciated. You, or rather your parents, will be pleased to know that we have now fitted a short handrail in the master bedroom. Repeat guests are always a pleasure, so I do hope that you and your family enjoy Oak Bank again in the future. Monica Property Owner

  • "We have stayed in many cottages over the years, and this one is up there with the best, if not the best."

Location fantastic but still a peaceful and quiet spot. Kitchen well equipped, beds really comfortable and social spaces really spacious with a good layout. Good supply of hangers in the wardrobes and hooks on doors. The only criticism and it’s a minor is that couple of lamps in the lounge would be lovely and make it even more cosy.

I am very pleased to hear that you and your family members from America enjoyed your stay in Oak Bank. I am also glad that you found it provided all you needed for a good visit. The challenge with table lamps is avoiding the wires becoming trip hazards. However, we have now found a way to improve the lighting without trailing wires! • "Our holiday at Oak Bank was amazing, the only thing that could be improved is the addition of a couple of lamos for the sitting/dining room and a better hoover."

I'm so glad to hear that you had a good time at Oak Bank. We have contemplated putting some lamps in the sitting area but are concerned about the hazard that trailing wires might represent. When we are there for a week in September, we will reconsider whether we can do so safely. Thank you for posting feedback - a new hoover is on its way, Monica Property Owner

  • "Such a lovely, well maintained and generously stocked cottage."

Lovely open spaces to sit outside and lots of room inside to spread out. Big table with plenty room for everyone to sit comfortably. Kitchen was well equipped with everything you could want. Bedrooms were comfortable and big - even the twin room was spacious - despite the sloping roof. Only one slightly negative comment - may be worth putting small handrail next to step in lower bedroom as this room is likely to be used by older members of the family who would appreciate this support, Would highly recommend and would love to come back.

Apologies for not responding sooner, but I have just noticed that no reply appears on the website, and I thought I had sent you a message. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay and found Oak Bank to be well-equipped and comfortable. I do appreciate receiving helpful feedback and have now put in a small handrail in the master bedroom. If you are in The Lakes again, I hope we can welcome you back, you clearly enjoyed your visit to Oak Bank as much as we do. Thanks for leaving feedback, Monica Property Owner

Thank you so much for a lovely stay ..

I'm delighted that you and your partner clearly enjoyed your stay. Like you, we appreciate its location when we visit - it is nice not to have to be dependent on a car. • "On the whole a clean and well equipped property and we had a great holiday, just a few things would make it perfect."

It is described as a luxury property so I would expect toilet roll and hand soap to be provided. Also just 2 bin liners for the whole week is not enough. The downstairs bedroom needs a dressing table ( or something underneath the mirror)and the shower screen in the bathroom leakes ( we used the dirty tea towels left by the previous guests to soak up the water on the floor ) The shower doors in both upstairs bathrooms do not fit or close properly and the mattress on the double bed upstairs sags on one side. The property could also do with at least one full length mirror.

I am glad to hear that you had a great holiday and thank you for bringing a couple of things to my attention. I had left push down soap dispensers in each bathroom and loo rolls are usually left by the cleaners, apologies for their absence. I agree that two bin liners may not be enough and so have previously left a roll of them in one of the kitchen drawers. It would appear that they have been removed, as the roll can't have run out since our last visit. I will check the shower door seals when I am next at Oak Bank in a couple of weeks but am disappointed to hear that there were dirty tea towels left by the cleaners - though in this instance that turned out to be useful. I will also consider where a full length mirror might be hung. I do appreciate constructive feedback and look forward to welcoming you back to Oak Bank in the future. Property Owner

  • "There are a few things that need maintenance, but otherwise it was very good."

The dishwasher needs something to put cutlery in! The small upstairs shower head leaks badly. The cafetière needs repairing or replacing. These were minor inconveniences but need attention. This is otherwise a very pleasant home in a delightful area and was clean and exactly as advertised. We will definitely recommend it and be back for a longer stay.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for bringing some things to our attention. Just so you know, for when you return to us, there is a cutlery tray right at the top of the dishwasher. I will replace the cafetière and will certainly get the showerhead attended to. Looking forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

  • "It was a lovely holiday cottage."

Spacious and well maintained. Being very picky- the glass doors could have done with a clean (either a toddler or a dog?) as they were smeared about 2ft from the floor not even sure how we noticed this and it is really being very picky. The rest of the cottage was spotlessly clean. The dimmer switches for the main lights were flickering on and off when dimmed ok when on full. The lighting could be improved with some lamps but again this is a small thing. We would definitely go back.

Thank you for your kind and helpful feedback. Switching to LED lighting last year has caused lighting to flicker when fully dimmed but leaving it slightly brighter solves the problem. I will certainly consider lamps but do not want to create any safety issues with trailing wires. I am pleased to hear that you would come back to Oak Bank and look forward to welcoming you again. • "We have stayed at this property several times."

It has always been clean and well presented, until this time when we found food and discarded paper packaging under and on the sofas. This is the first time that cleanliness in the lounge has been poor and was a considerable disappointment. The rest of the property was cleaned to a high standard. We tried to leave the property clean and I think we managed to leave the lounge cleaner than when we arrived!

Dear Bruce, Thank you for bringing the problems with the state in which the lounge was left to my attention. I have been in touch with Heart of the Lakes about this, as I believe it is very important that a holiday property is cleaned to a high standard. I do hope this has not tarnished your view of Oak Bank and that you will still consider coming back. Many of my guests are repeat bookers and it is nice to feel that other people like to go back to a place they have enjoyed. With kind regards, Monica Property Owner

Thank you for submitting your feedback. It is always good to hear both positive and negative comments. You said: Comment: Cleanliness was not up to standard, dusty bedrooms and hob not clean, dishwasher not emptied. I too am disappointed that the cleaning was not up to standard and have already brought the cleanliness issue to the attention of the Head of Housekeeping at Heart of the Lakes. With regard to the dishwasher, I apologise if the laminated note left by the cleaner was not in an obvious place. I can't recall the exact wording, but it does ask guests to leave the property with used crockery etc. in the dishwasher on a hot wash, so that the next guests know that it is Covid safe. While this is not requested during 'normal' times, this change was made for the benefit and reassurance of guests. Thank you again raising your concerns and I hope you will come to Oak Bank again.
