"The property was as advertised and was as expected, the main lounge area was cosy , on a personal note I would have appreciated a TV that was larger than my laptop and there was a telephone signal at the cottage."
The kitchen was well set out and fully equipped and with a washing machine installed it would have been good to have had a clothes airer to hang the washing inside to use on wet days. The bed was comfortable, with clean linen and plenty of hanging space in the bedrooms.
The location of the cottage was conveniently situated for what we needed , but you definitely would need your own transport when staying here.
It's lovely to hear you found The Stables to be a cosy and comfortable retreat. Thank you for your encouraging feedback.
Living rurally certainly has its charm, though it's true that reliable transport is essential and the phone signal can sometimes be a little patchy. It's all part of the country life experience!
The television in The Stables was chosen specifically to fit within the wooden cabinet, allowing it to be neatly tucked away when not in use. This helps preserve the peaceful and cosy atmosphere of the room. Of course, we understand that preferences around size can vary from guest to guest.
Many of our guests have made use of the washer/drier (located in the kitchen) as a convenient alternative to drying clothes outdoors. That said, investing in an indoor clothes airer is a thoughtful suggestion and one we'll certainly consider going forward.
We do hope you'll return to The Stables in the future. You would be most welcome!

"Thank you for hosting our wonderful week in the Lake District."
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Stables. The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed for our family's stay. We loved the beautiful rural setting. It was well placed for visits to Consiton, the beach, Black Combe, the Swinside stone circle, and many other walks and attractions. We hope to visit again!

"This may not have anything to do with the owner, but I'm disappointed that items we accidentally left behind (under the duvet in the double bedroom, therefore couldn't be 'missed' by anyone cleaning and changing bedding) claims not to have been found by anyone."
Sykes customer service response via the app was quite slow, and not at all personal or sympathetic, which is a shame. Yes, we know that items left behind by guests are not the responsibility of the cleaners or owners, it was our fault for leaving them, but there's no way the items haven't been found by whoever stripped the bed, so we have to assume that they've either been taken for personal use, binned, or sold on.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I'm truly sorry to hear how disappointed you felt following your stay, particularly in relation to the handling of your lost items.
I want to reassure you that we take the return of guests’ belongings very seriously, and we always aim to act with honesty and care. In this instance, I can confirm that the items you left behind were found and returned to you, and I’m sorry if there was any confusion or delay in communication around this. I will certainly pass this feedback onto Sykes.
Thank you again for staying with us, and for raising your concerns so openly. We do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide a more reassuring experience.

"Very pleasant."
Feels more spacious than the photos. I had a happy week exploring the nearby fells, Millom's coast, Ulverston and Cartmel Sands, the Seathwaite Fells and Eskdale at the foot of Scafell.
Thank you so much for your kind words, we're so pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay!
It’s lovely to know that The Stables felt more spacious than expected, and it sounds like you made the most of exploring the beautiful surrounding areas. What a wonderful week of adventure!
We’d be delighted to welcome you back whenever you feel like escaping to the Lakes again.

"Absolutely beautiful cottage in a great location."
We had a great stay, the kitchen is lovely with a great oven and microwave and the whole cottage is so spacious. So quiet and peaceful and the ideal spot for a relaxing stay in the Lake District. Great for visits to Windermere, Coniston, Scafell Pike and Wast Water. Would not hesitate to recommend this cottage to family and friends and we hope to return for another holiday.

"Very pleased with The Stables."
Excellent spacious accommodation. Ideal for a holiday any time of the year. Cosy lounge with two heaters to keep you warm on a chilly winter night. Easy to use appliances in the kitchen. A great fusion of old and new. Don’t expect an invigorating shower though as the water pressure is low. Ideal for a family or couple. Good too for someone with limited mobility. I took my sister who walks with the aid of a frame. Owners left a welcome gift of wine and chocolate and were kind enough to bring us candles and torches in case we had a blackout during Storm Eowyn, which we did!
Lots of places to visit in the area although some attractions are closed in the winter. Nature reserve at Millom and a good pub in the square. Walk along the old railway at Broughton-In-Furness then visit the pub in the square with open fire to warm yourself. Swinside Stone Circle nearby. Limited parking on narrow lane near the entrance of the farm track that you have to walk up to access the site.
All in all The Stables is the ideal all year round base for walking the quiet southwestern fells, cycling and scenic driving.

"Attentive hosts who provided a warm welcome to the western lakes."
Cottage is cosy and is an excellent base for nature lovers and anyone wanting some peace and quiet -views and walks from the door shared only with Herdwick sheep.
We were blessed with enough good weather for some stunning walks in the area- highlights being Black Coombe, Duddon Valley and sunsets on the sandy shores of the Irish Sea.
Another treat was spotting a red squirrel scampering in front of our on our drive to Wast Water. Can’t control weather- it is Cumbria - but highly recommend as the cottage has everything you need to relax including digital appliances to make light work of chores.
Thank you for opening The Stables to us- very apt for the week before Xmas :)
(PS if -like us- you’re concerned with negative reviews about showering -be assured:: my partner used the shower, i however preferred the bath: water is hot and plentiful -perfect for hikers’ tired feet and muscles

"I want to say I can't understand the few recent negative feedback this property has received as myself and my wife found everything at the stable cottage to be of a good standard especially the well equipped clean and modern kitchen and the place was much bigger than we realised and had a great ambience."
Want to sate the drive up to the property from the main road which someone had criticised was fine and being able to park right outside was a big bonus. Also we experienced very peaceful sleeps and heard no noise at night or in the early hours not even from farm animals apart from the relaxing sound of some sofly sounding singing birds in the mornings! I'm surprised some of the previous whingers that stayed here didn't moan about that as well !! The only thing I would moan about is the owners should highlight the fact that there's an amazing 7 mile circular walk right from the doorstep through some beautiful woods up to an old furnace and then onto an amazing low fell called Barrow where you get incredible views over the high central and southern lakeland mountain ranges and over to the sea & then onto an ancient 3500yr old stone circle in a place called swinside, In my opinion as someone who's been hiking in the lakes for over 20yrs this is a walk not to be missed if you're staying here. Also the night sky is amazing as there's no light pollution and we had some fantastic star gazing right from the doorstep as we were lucky to have a few clear nights. Overall I would highly recommend this accommodation if you want to stay in a place that's quite and very peaceful, well located to explore the western and southern lake district and great value for money.

"Cottage is in a lovely area with easy access to Coniston, Eskdale and Wasdale fells."
A few points though - the bedroom is directly under the living area of the apartment above (not made clear in description) and we were disturbed by lots of banging and clattering at midnight and 7am by the upstairs occupants. It was rather cold on arrival and difficult to work out the heating which is on a timer, though it did warm up eventually. The 250 yard lane leading to the cottage is very lumpy, bumpy and potholed, again not clear in the description. The standard and arrangement of seating is poor and very uncomfortable. Worst thing however was the wooden toilet seat - it was loose, cracked and the varnish had long worn off leaving bare stained wood - disgusting and very unhygienic. It needs replacing pronto. We tried to contact owners but we had poor mobile signal in the whole area. These things should be sorted prior to a holiday. We were out all day and enjoyed our holiday but won't be booking this cottage again.
Dear guest, thank you for your thorough feedback.
What William and I want more than anything is for guests to feel happy, relaxed, cosy and comfortable during a break in Stable Cottage. It seems that you feel we have fallen short in those areas on this occasion and for that we can only apologise.
We do welcome guests to contact us at any point during their stay and as we live only a short distance away from Stable Cottage, we are always available to help with any problems or difficulties they are experiencing.
It seems you were unable to reach us and I am very sorry for that. It would have been a pleasure to come and help with the heating or to discuss the concerns you had about the seating and the toilet seat.
It is regretful that we did not have the opportunity to resolve these issues during the time that you were our guests at Stable Cottage.
We will of course look into each and every one of your concerns and explore how we can improve the experience which we offer to all of our guests in the future.
You will be encouraged to know that a new toilet seat has been purchased and fitted already. (We were unaware that the old one had come loose!)
We endeavour to make Stable Cottage as relaxing and happy a place as it can be. We are grateful for your feedback in helping us to do this.
All the best for future holidays.
Gemma Jardine.

"We had a lovely stay in this beautifully converted stable."
The standard of equipment is very high, the bed and seating very comfortable and we were warm enough even with temperatures that dipped below minus 5 degrees during each night of our stay!
Our hosts were extremely helpful and welcoming ( the bottle of wine plus other snacks outscores the usual tea and biscuits provided by some distance)
There are excellent footpath walks right from the doorstep and many choices of routes a little further afield.
