"A beautiful loft apartment!"
Perfect situation for exploring the lakes and for popping in to Ambleside for dinner. Excellent!

"It's a nice property but it was disappointing to have the scaffolding in front of the windows."
During some windy nights the metal doors in the scaffolding would bang. We didn't think 10% off was sufficient for this. The communications I had with Lakelovers about this was very slow and poor. Also, I raised about the sky satellite tv not working. Someone came round and said it was probably the dish but then we never heard from Lakelovers about it again so had no satellite tv channels all week.

"Very nice property - would recommend to others and would stay there again."
Great location; only a short walk from the centre of Ambleside, plus in easy reach of several great walks, right on your doorstep. Access was easy, and all info needed was in the folder inside the flat. Stunning views too.

"Nice clean apartment on the top floor of this property."
Lots of steps and no access to the lift as you need a code for it!!! Would have been useful to take the luggage up and down on arrival and departure. Grounds to the house are stunning with amazing views and an easy downhill walk into Ambleside.
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. The lift is not mentioned in the description as it is not something that guests have access to. Unfortunately, this is a building management decision and does not reflect the owner or Lakelovers. We are glad that you did enjoy the grounds of the property and the surrounding area. "The Positives The apartment itself was really lovely, warm, well fitted out to a very high standard."
We were extremely comfortable there. So all was excellent there. The Negatives Accessibility is a big issue which I feel your description fails to address clearly. Your description correctly states it’s a second floor apartment. But unless I missed something in the description that statement doesn’t truly reflect the task needed to transport suitcases , shopping, drinks for the festive season etc up several flights of stairs ( about 50 steps in total). There may be an accessibility statement for this property, but if so I missed it. We are relatively fit and in our 70s but still found it quite a struggle. There is of course a lift, which is not mentioned in your description. But apparently the lift is for permanent residents of the building only and accessed by a key code which we were not provided with. Some redress for this situation was requested and would have been appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. The lift is not mentioned in the description as it is not something that guests have access to. Unfortunately, this is a building management decision and does not reflect the owner or Lakelovers. We recommend that guests check suitability of a property prior to booking, especially if there is any concern for accessibility. We are glad that you enjoyed the apartment and found it comfortable. "Not very impressed with having to carry a weeks worth of supplies up 4 sets of stairs as lift not working."
Sky TV not working smoke alarm going of nearly every time my wife cooked.Fire alarm went of very early one morning 0515 and several other times during stay for no reason.

"A little gem we were lucky to find, and will hopefully be back to."
The suite was the perfect size for two adults and one 9 year old. The facilities and fittings are all good quality and we had no issues during our stay. The private grounds and drive up the zig zag road to the house all add to a feeling of being somewhere special. There are lots of walks from the house that mean you actually don't need to drive. Loughrigg Fell, Rydal Caves and Buckstone jump ( a waterfall/pool you can swim in) are all a small walk away. If it's free, then book it. But not the week we want to come next year!

It was furnished to a high and comfortable standard with everything we needed. Have already recommended to friends and family.
thanks you for your positive comments and pleased you and your children had a lovely time. Property Owner

"This was our third stay in this lovely old building, each time in a different apartment."
We love the location, with a 10 minute walk into Ambleside across the park. It is also brilliant having parking, so avoiding the need to park in Ambleside which can be a nightmare. The steep lane from and to the building will not be for everyone, but it is possible to drive down to the main gates and leave your car there for the ascent back up the long drive. There are lovely walks to Grassmere, Skelwith Bridge (and on to Elterwater), Rydal and Loughrigg Fell from the lane outside the house and many more from other parts of Ambleside. The apartment was generally well equipped and very clean. A decent TV and streaming services, plus a little Bose bluetooth speaker were much apprciated. It was nice to be able to control the hot water and heating (only used to warm up the towel rail as we had beautiful weather). A few tips for the owner: 1) the seal under the glass shower screen over the bath is perished and water leaks onto the floor 2) we were surprised to find a plain sheet on the double bed rather than a fitted sheet, though the bed was very comfortable 3) we stayed in two other places on this holiday and both provided welcome packs with a few basics (nice if you arrive late) 4) a second bath mat would be helpful as there are two showers. But these are just minor niggles. It was a lovely apartment and the views were spectacular. We did not want to leave.

"My wife and I had a wonderful stay in this suite."
Absolutely great views of the surrounding hills from our room and from the huge garden (even seeing Lake Windermere through the trees). One morning there were a few sheep on our lawns! Entry instructions on our arrival were very clear (a spare front door key to the suite would have been useful - 'just in case'). A clean, well maintained property. The split level to the kitchen gave the suite added character. Well furnished with comfortable seating in the main room. The suite is on the top (second floor) of the large house - only drawback was carrying our cases up all the stairs (quite a task) - there is a small lift but it was key coded and we never knew the code (nor did others in the building). A really steep drive/walk up to the property either via main driveway or a paved bridleway, although our car could be left at the gated drive entrance if the walking up was 'too much'. Central Ambleside is a 10 minute walk across a park and it is only a 30 minute walk to Waterhead (Ambleside pier on Lake Windermere). Ambleside is a really good 'central' location in the Lake District - quaint with lots of places to eat and drink. A highly recommended stay.
thank you for your feedback and glad you enjoyed your time in Ambleside in a unique property with some amazing views (the steep drive is the price to pay for the special elevated views), but as you have commented you can leave a car securely at the bottom of the drive within the gates. There is a spare key for the apartment and one for the garage on the hooks where the torches are in the hallway. We will check they are in situ in case they have been moved. Property Owner

"A beautiful apartment, this was not our first stay and won’t be our last."

"We loved the apartment, especially the stunning view over Fairfield Horseshoe with Rydal Hall in the distance."
It was lovely to relax and look at the view. The apartment was very comfortable. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. It was quite firm but we prefer that to a too soft and squishy bed. The apartment was well equipped with everything we needed. The Wi-Fi was good and my teenage son was very happy. In fact he said it was the best holiday accommodation he has stayed in. It was well located and within easy walking distance to Ambleside across the park. A very quiet and peaceful location. The garden was lovely with a lake view from some areas. It was very hot for our first few days - 30 degrees, very unexpected in the Lakes! As it’s a top floor apartment it did get hot but there were plenty of windows to open, remote controlled velux and a fan. I expect it will be cosy in winter. We had no problems with the arrival instructions or the gate button and door codes as mentioned in another review, it was all straightforward. The hairdryer was in the bedroom drawer. There were signs there had been a leak and there was scaffolding on the roof. It rained while we were there and there was no leak. There had been some storm damage to a couple of trees in the grounds probably from Storm Arwen which was still being repaired. They have sadly lost a very large tree. I agree with previous reviews on the unavailable lift. It had a code lock on it and we couldn’t work out whether it actually worked. Nobody from any apartment used it. It is hard work on arrival and departure getting luggage up and down the stairs. There also needs to be a light immediately outside the apartment door as the switch for it is inside and it can be hard to see the lock. There also needs to be recycling facilities, particularly as this is a national park. We are very green and recycle absolutely everything at home but still draw the line at looking for the council recycling facility while on holiday. Also be aware that the road Under Loughrigg is no motor vehicles and access only through to Rydal if you turn left out of the property gate but some less reliable satnavs (like our car one) may try to direct you down there from either direction!
Thank you for your detailed review. As regards recycling, we did away with the separate bins as not everyone used them. We have replaced this with a commercial collection service that recycles all the waste from the common bins. Unfortunately the estate suffered much damage during Storm Arwen, with over 120 trees been lost. The clear up work is continuing - the roof damage has been repaired and the internal (minor) staining near the velux will be redecorated shortly. Property Owner

"The apartment is gorgeous, as are the views and location."
We had a wonderful time and felt very comfortable there. The rooms were clean and had most items we needed. However, it would have been beneficial to have a hairdryer in one of the rooms and maybe some tennis rackets and tennis balls for use. Also, we could not get the lift to work which meant carrying up our luggage was difficult, but this did not affect our enjoyment.
thank you for your positive comments. There was and should be a hairdryer in the main bedroom - will check that out. Tennis rackets and balls are stored in the garage. Property Owner

"We have several complaints to make about Loughrigg Suite, which may help future visitors."
In chronological order: in the email that you send with arrival instructions, the ordering of information is extremely poor for this particular property. The key code for the flat and the assistance phone numbers are right at the top - where guests will be looking. The details for the entry gates and the front door lock are way down BELOW the travel details where few will be looking as they arrive. The entry details should all be together. As you must be well aware the Velux window high in the living room ceiling leaks -and has been for some time. I know that you warned us that ‘work is going on’ (though nothing happened this week) and it is clearly difficult to find out where the leak is because the ceiling all around around the window is blistered and stained. This meant we lost use of a quarter of the living room - we had to keep our belongings away from that area, leave a towel on the table and a bucket on the floor to avoid damage to the carpet and furniture. There are problems with the washing machine, again we assume long-standing as the door matching the other cupboards has been removed. The machine makes noises as if it is running a cycle but the drum did not rotate. In addition, the model installed is not the model for which instructions are provided so we had to waste time looking it up on-line to try to resolve the problem. We were left with an unwash load, the garments at the top were still dry but the bottom half were soaking wet and again we had to waste time moving them around the drying horse and oil radiator to get them dry- not easy with unspun washing. The items on the upper shelves in the kitchen were out of my reach and there are no steps, so I had to climb on a stool – not ideal. AND the lift which would have been very useful to bring our luggage up to the 2nd floor is out or order - it clearly should be available as there is an apology stuck on the door. I think some recompense is required for these detriments to our stay here

"A great apartment with loads of walks on your door step."
Great views from front room and kitchen was well equipped. Beautiful gardens to relax in,very peaceful and quiet. I would recommend changing the mattress it is very hard as were the pillows . The bath water didn't get hot enough to have a bath. And the washing machine was broke, although I did report this and someone did call but could not repair it and said it needed a white goods engineer.
we are glad you enjoyed the location and stay. As to the bed - that is personal view - some people prefer softer mattresses but we have not had any issues with this. The washer dryer was broken beyond repair and a brand new one has now been installed Property Owner

"We loved this apartment."
Great views, beautifully decorated and thoughtfully equipped kitchen. It was immaculately clean when we arrived. The single bedroom is tiny and probably best suited to a child we felt, and this might be made clearer in the descriptions. For a couple like us, however, it was the ideal storage room for the week. We loved being out of the fray of Ambleside but with everything a short walk away.

"Had a fantastic 7 day stay."
Will rebook with HOTL for later on in the year. Highly recommend. Thank you.

"A fabulous apartment in a well positioned house close to Ambleside centre …and with spectacular views."
Very well furnished with very comfy bed/pillows and relaxing sofa/stool. Well equipped kitchen/dining …and with nicely chosen cups and glasses. Excellent bathroom with hot and powerful shower. Good parking area for our car. We would really like to return to this apartment in the coming years. Only issues we had (and we overcome them)… 1. Leaking roof (judging from the scaffolding this is work in progress), but water dripping onto table. 2. Greasy pan left in oven (which we cleaned). 3. Plug leaked water in bath and we couldn’t get the bath tap to run hot/warm water to fill bath.

"Loughrigg Suite is a lovely apartment in a fabulous location with great views."
Well appointed kitchen, comfortable lounge and very comfortable bed. We had a very enjoyable stay. We do however have some small points to note which reduced the overall rating: 1. No light in the hallway. We had to use a flashlight feature on our mobile phone to see the keypad on the door. The owners should install a PIR light. We had the same problem when we reached our apartment door. 2. Light in the hall between lounge and the bedroom wasn't working and doorknob to the lounge kept coming off the door. 3. We were very disappointed that the property had no separate bin for recycling, the instructions told us to take recycling to Ambleside - not acceptable. 4. There was a lift but it couldn't be used, a maintenance man told us they had removed access in case somebody got stuck. Lugging heavy backs and provisions up two floors when we arrived and left was a real effort.

About the location
AMBLESIDE
Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
