  • "Beautiful property and very comfortable in a great location."

Scaffolding around the property is now being removed and the guys were quiet and hardworking. The ongoing issue with the drains smell needs a permanent fix as it spoils the experience if you are using the twin bedroom. Sykes need to be far more explicit about this to manage people’s expectations.

Good facilities. Drains smell a problem.

Thank you for leaving your comments and we're so happy that you enjoyed Windermere Suite. We also love that you can walk from the door and have a 'car free' holiday. It is frustrating to hear that the drains were again an issue. Unfortunately until guests in the whole house adhere to what can/ what can't be flushed, this problem keeps arising. Property Owner

  • "Thank you so much for hosting us in Loughrigg Brow last week - your property is in the most wonderful location and is a beautiful property to spend a week in the Lakes in."

Everything was as expected, with the furnishings and comfort of the property surpassing our expectations. The view from the sitting room is one we never got bored of! We will definitely consider returning in the future and have recommended the property to friends and family. It was a slightly disappointing about the building works - we are having our roof and windows done at home so were hoping to escape the building site. When we arrived we realised how extensive the scaffolding was and felt we had to keep bedroom window curtains shut for privacy when the builders were working. The builders also liked to blast music out from early in the morning which did ruin the peace and quiet. Two things to note - we tried to find the Ambleside parking permit in the kitchen drawer but had no luck and unfortunately we had no pen to write in the visitor's book - sorry!

Thank you Susie for your feedback. We are thrilled you loved the apartment and found that Loughrigg Brow is a great place to stay! We also love the views and agree you'll not tire of them. We're sorry that the scaffolders disturbed you, but hopefully the painters will be less disruptive. For us all to enjoy this fantastic listed building, the exterior needs to be painted, which is a job for the summer, however we look forward to welcoming you and your friends back in the future. TV difficult to understand a few step by step instructions may help. Reference the smell from the drains, this was not a problem as we flushed a couple of times as stated and it was solved. Will return and recommend the property to friends.

Thank you Barbara for your feedback and we're glad to hear you had a fantastic stay. As you mention the views are wonderful, which we also love. Look forward to seeing you and your friends again soon. Property Owner

  • "The Windermere Suite is the fourth apartment in which we have stayed in the Loughrigg Brow development over the last 20 years, and is by far the best decorated and refurbished."

However, the ongoing issue with the drains in the en-suite to the twin room which has been mentioned by many guests going back to 2018 is a very real issue. There are even instructions in the owners manual to tip large amounts of water into the toilet to reduce the odious smells. Some days it was completely over-powering through the whole apartment in spite of following instructions. The shower in the main en-suite had intermittent power to the pump and therefore did not work properly as the water stopped and started continuously - the agent suggested this had been remedied following the same comment by a guest earlier in 2024. It has not. The TV in the sitting room switched itself off for no apparent reason - so frustrating. Only 2 loo rolls were present in 3 bathrooms in an apartment for 4 - penny-pinching. If this apartment is to maintain its "luxury" listing and price tag, all of these basic amenities need to be sorted out. How disappointing in such a beautifully appointed apartment in an amazing location. And a bottle of wine?? No sign of that either, but at least we were not the only guests to have been left off the list to receive one.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. I am sorry to read that the problems with the drains have returned and that you had issues with other amenities. Unfortunately, as you did not make us aware of this during your stay we were unable to a send our maintenance team to resolve it and make your stay more comfortable. We agree that there should be more toilet roll - one per bathroom. An oversight that we have raised with the housekeeping team. As this is a self catering accommodation we only provide a starter amount. We hope you can understand that this is not a standard service and out of the kindness of the owner, who is not always able to leave some for guests. We are glad that you like the refurbishment of the property. Lakelovers Owner Team Property Owner

  • "We stayed here the first 2 weeks of March, having enjoyed 2 previous holidays here."

This time I have to say we were disappointed. The shower in the twin bedroom was not functioning until the Wednesday of the second week. There were similar problems with the shower in the main bedroom which would not provide hot water consistently ( fixed on that Wednesday after several visits) and the flow was intermittent ( not fixed). There were only 3 dining chairs with no apology/explanation of when that would be sorted until I rang up. The drain smell coming from the shower room in the twin room was very unpleasant. Sadly we will not be returning.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you have had some problems with the facilities, but I am glad to see that these were resolved during your stay. We note that a phone call was made prior to your visit to inform you of the missing chair and that this would be replaced during your stay. We hope these were suitable to your needs. I cannot blame you for the weather! The initial reaction was not ideal as the lift was only available for the owners of the apartments. As I was staying on the top floor this did create a problem, until a young man helped, by carrying my case up the stairs. The apartment was really lovely. Superbly decorated and beautiful views.

Our request to use the lift just for mum was rejected by the agents on grounds of health and safety access? Residents only allowed to use it. Also the easy stroll to town is a little ambiguous as quite a steep up and down to property, fortunately there is a lay-by just inside the grounds gates so that we could drive down each day and leave the car.

Second time in this building, first in this apartment and it didn’t disappoint! The apartment is comfortable, clean and very well appointed. Lovely big kitchen for family meals and a cosy living room with beautiful views across to the lake and Ambleside/Wansfell. The grounds are great, even with storm damage causing some tree felling-this made for fun clambering for small children! Lovely to see the tennis court area being repaired too, although weather not as great for playing as last year. Hikes and running from the door, first class viewing of the Loughrigg Fell Race. Lovely situation for being close to Ambleside but quiet and out of the way of the crowds. We hiked locally over Loughrigg, Lingwood Fell, Coniston and the Elterwater round. Got kayaking on Windermere when the weather wasn’t good for high hiking. Runs round Rydal/Grasmere and to Hawkshead and back. Fab cake at Troutbeck Post Office. We even visited the new Pure Lakes workshop! If we had to give ideas for improvement for the apartment, maybe a solution for hanging wet waterproofs as there’s not much space in the hall cupboard. What about a coat stand on the landing outside? We also found there weren’t enough small water glasses and we also managed to crack one taking it out of the cupboard (sorry!), so we bought another set of four. The underfloor heating in the main bathroom was fabulous-it didn’t work in the twin en-suite however-could this be looked into perhaps? Lastly-arriving to see a deer casually eating grass right under the bedroom window was amazing! Thanks for a lovely week, we’ll be back again.

The property is lovely and very comfortable. Only a couple of minor things to feed back: the bath in the master bedroom ensuite was very slow to drain, making it difficult to clean. Also there was indeed quite a strong smell of drains in the twin room ensuite - although I did follow the instructions in the guest notes regarding this, the smell kept recurring. (We were also glad we'd only brought one car, as there seemed to be quite an officious man keeping a watch over the visitors parking area!) Overall though the apartment is a lovely holiday rental in a very convenient position.

It has been very nicely refurbed over the recent years and is very well equipped. FYI_for the owners-we had a power outage in January for 24hrs, and only 1 torch. Some logs for back up heating, and matches and candles would be nice. FYI SYKES -There is no incentive to book for 2 wks . We were very disappointed to discover a week before our 2 wk booking that Covid was used as to why the apartment couldn't be cleaned at the end of the first week of our stay. We were not going to be in and the first set of friends had moved out completely. Hotels can do it daily in the current climate. New linen was supplied when I phoned to ask. It wasn't offered and we had to go out and buy new toilet rolls etc. We would liked at least to have steam cleaned the kitchen floor before our second set of friends arrived but that wasn't possible.

Hi Sue, thank you so much for your feedback. We love that you love WS as much as we do and it's great that you keep coming back. Sorry you had a power cut and that is a great idea about the torches and we will definitely leave more in the apartment. Unfortunately due to the Fire Safety requirements, we're not allowed to leave candles for guest use. We always leave a supply of logs when we leave, but of course they get used and not replaced. Fortunately there are lots of places locally to source wood for the wood burning stove.Look forward to having you visit again soon! Property Owner
