  • "I paid a lot of money to have a relaxing break in this cottage, instead I spent 2 days of my 5 day break dealing with a fly infestation, cleaning all round the door frames where the flies had been living."

According to your own visitors book you have known about this issue since 2016 and done nothing about it. Absolute charlatans

I have spoken to Lakelovers about your comments. Lakelovers have told me that you reported the issue with the flies on the second day of your stay (Saturday 26th October) and that a member of their maintenance team visited the cottage on the same day to kill and clean up the flies. Lakelovers also informed me that they had not heard from you about any further problems with flies during your stay. It is very common for flies to gather in the recesses of the window and door frames of properties in the area as autumn turns to winter. As you note we are aware of the issue but it is not correct, as you say, that we have done nothing about it. Unfortunately we are unable to control the natural behaviour of flies as they seek a warm, sheltered spot to see out the winter but we do regularly spray the window and door frames with fly spray and sweep out all of the insects that have gathered in the frames. I am sorry that you feel that the issue spoilt your holiday but I feel that Lakelovers responded promptly when you raised the issue with them and, as they heard nothing more from you about the issue, that they acted reasonably in thinking that the issue had been resolved to your satisfaction. I have offered you a goodwill gesture to make up for the inconvenience that you suffered but I understand from Lakelovers that they have not heard from you about this either. Please contact Lakelovers if you wish to accept the offer and they will sort this out for you. Property Owner

The property

Lyth Valley luxury at Great Hartbarrow Farm!

This superb 17th Century Westmorland longhouse will be a well-loved companion for your special holiday in the Lakes.

Just a few miles from the celebrated Mason's Arms at Strawberry Bank along with a scattering of other homely country inns, and surrounded by green fields and woodlands, your party can slip into the calming country escape mood while still being close enough to Bowness and wider Lakes to explore with ease! Renovated to an exacting standard, Great Hartbarrow Farm Cottage has all you could want for a rejuvenating holiday in the Lakes.

Old world charm flows through this characterful property, marked by wooden beams and a tasteful use of local slate, yet the modernisation of the property means you have every contemporary comfort at your disposal.

Luxurious leather sofas let you unwind in style, with a warming wood-burner for chillier times, and the intriguing 'hayloft' bedroom is a really superb place to recharge!

The remote and picturesque countryside setting makes sure you get some lovely pastoral views here, too! In spring and summer the fields and hedgerows of the Lyth Valley are abuzz with the goings-on of wildlife and full of flowers and fruit, damson and blackberries being particularly abundant.

But the area is appealing in any season, and a crisp winter's walk to the glorious summit of Gummer's How or a misty autumn morning drive through the miasma of country lanes attests to that!

It often feels like a world that time forgot here, and you are sufficiently off the beaten tracks of Lakeland's central fells to really appreciate the peace of rural life. Of course, the pretty country garden with well-appointed patio offers an excellent space to sit outside and really soak it all in, and when the sun is out we're sure you'll spend plenty of time here relaxing beneath the sun umbrella and sipping your favourite summertime beverage!

When in a more active mood, you could hardly be better placed to enjoy the multitude of fascinating rural rambles this green and gorgeous area has to offer, and a short journey lets you access the most famous fells of Lakeland and the myriad attractions of the region.

You'll surely want to visit bustling Bowness and take a cruise on a steamer on Lake Windermere, while guided tours of the Lakes are available by Mountain Goat minibus, too. Perfect for a peaceful walking holiday with homely country inns aplenty to punctuate your scenic perambulations, a stay with us at Great Hartbarrow Farm Cottage will surely leave you satisfied yet coming back for more!

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
