"Excellent accomodation Modern spacious Excellent kitchen Happy to have ..."
Excellent accomodation Modern spacious Excellent kitchen Happy to have stayed here, would definitely book again thank you
-
"When we arrived at the property we found a red stain on the duvet cover looked like lip stick, apart from that the property is very roomy with everything you could need and we enjoyed our stay there, would definitely book that property again."
-
"Lovely property."
Very clean and comfortable. Only issue was we couldn't get the tv to work, we followed the instructions given in the info folder but still no good. I emailed the owner but didn't get a reply until the morning we left which was a bit annoying, so we didn't have any TV for the 2 evenings we were there.
-
"It was a great apartment in a rural within walking distance of the estuary and sea."
Very comfy beds, lovey big kitchen and beautiful garden with five monkey puzzle trees. We were also pleased as the main trainline was only a short walk away and there was a pub and shop in the village. We had a fantastic stay. Thank you.
-
"Thankyou for a lovely stay at 2 Cark House, beautiful accommodation clean and well equipped kitchen all on one level and very secure apartment."
Just one comment to add the wooden frame at the bottom of the bed was a bit dangerous if your not aware of it caught my leg/knee a couple of times..

"If you are someone who relies on internet or phone, this is probably not the place for you as there is no WiFi (this is stated in the property listing) and the phone signal can be a bit patchy."
If, however, you want some peace and quiet and to get away from it all, it's just the place! Large airy rooms, well equipped and spotlessly clean. Nice to sit on the bench in the garden and listen to the birds without the background soundtrack of traffic. Happy to spot a heron in the small stream at the bottom of the garden. Lovely walks nearby with Holker Hall just 10/15 minute walk away and definitely worth a visit. 10 minutes to the railway station if you want to venture further afield, leaving the car behind. A couple of minor points. Some of the local attraction leaflets were very old! We put some new ones in. There is a washing machine if needed, but nowhere to hang to dry. Don't like using a dryer unless absolutely necessary. Maybe a small airer could be provided. All in all we had a great stay and would definitely recommend and revisit.
-
"Very comfortable andi n an excellent location."
Plenty of good walks nearby and a traain station within easy walking distance.
-
"We have visited this flat on several occasions."
The location is peaceful and yet no more than half a mile to the mainline station that provides frequent service up and down the north west mainline saving the hassle of finding parking and driving when you go out and about. There is a very helpful and friendly general store in the village for all you might need as well and as good foody pub. The flat is very spacious and the grounds around are beautifully maintained. The kitchen is well equipped with every thing you could need. The bathroom has a large bath and a shower. It is an absolute delight to stay here.
-
"Really enjoyed our stay, property comfortable and clean."
-
"Lovely apartment, quiet, clean, comfortable and well equipped,in fact everything you could need was there."
Excellent location as easy to walk to Holker Hall and Cartmel2 from the door! Lovely walks too down to the coast. Small well equipped village shop and pub just a couple of minutes away. Highly recommended place to stay.
-
"Absolutely amazing little cottage, with stunning views, well equipped with everything you need."
Warm and welcoming. Bed and pillows very comfortable, best so far, great night sleep. Absolutely lovely stay.. Highly recommend

"Could not fault anything only no wifi"
-
"The property was lovely, especially the kitchen /dining room."
Really well equipped. Beautiful grounds. With the added bonus of a parking space. The surrounding area is stunning, with plenty of alternative things to do and see. A really enjoyable few days away.
-
"As a couple of octogenarians my wife and I just wanted a place to relax and re charge our batteries physicaly speaking after a hectic year and we could not have chosen a better place It has all the WOW factor we liked ."
We were there during the hotest weather this summer and just to sit out in the garden lawn areas and read our books in the shade of the mature trees was a treat .also there are lots of gentle walks near bye What a great place
-
"Lovely apartment, great high ceilings and spacious rooms."
Kitchen amazing. Weather was kind and we were able to sit in the grounds. Beautiful surroundings with the stream at the bottom. So peaceful, both of us slept really well. If you want a relaxing holiday this is the place. People very friendly and the pub a short stroll, great food as well. Local shop opposite the pub. We used the train to visit the area which was well priced and on time, railway station ten minutes from the apartment.
-
"The apartment is advertised as 'Luxury' but the lounge lets it down being very basic and sparse furnished, also in a 'Luxury' apartment in 2023 I would expect wifi."
-
"Extractor fan in bathroom not working, so there was a smell sometimes."
Couldn't open window in bedroom.
-
"Good apartment in a great location!"
Everything was as described on the website
-
"This was our second stay at Cark House."
Once again did not disappoint. Excellent accommodation for two. A lovely location, ideal for long walks and train links for further destinations.
-
"We didn’t realise there was no Wi-Fi."
We would not have booked this property if we had, which would have been a shame as it was comfortable in all other respects.
-
"Very comfortable apartment with well appointed kitchen, good heating and shower."
Lovely setting with pleasant local walks as well as the lakes. Would return.
-
"Re previous comments: the door lock is mended and the key box easy to locate."
We agree that better directions to the parking would be very helpful-pulling up on the drive at the front is not advisable. Kitchen and dining area is superb and well equipped. Lounge is OK-a bit soulless- and bedroom, as previously stated, is small. The bed was very hot (latex mattress?) and we were disturbed every night (late evening, during the night and early morning) by plumbing (wc flushes?) from above. That could just have been bad luck!
-
"A great apartment, very well equipped, ideally situated for walks, coastal walk, and visits to the lakes, it is convenient to the village and amenities."
-
"Lovely well presented, spacious and comfortable property in a very pleasant, peaceful location."
Really enjoyed our stay, the only thing that could be improved is the front door lock, it was awkward to open from the outside and couldn't be locked from the inside - only a flimsy bolt for security. Better signage for car parking would be a benefit as when we arrived we pulled into the drive at the front of the house and were met by a frosty reception from the neighbour telling us very definitely we couldn't park there! Also having to phone Sykes Cottages for the key code was a bit of a faff. Although this is mostly complaints they are pretty minor, the property is a lovely place to stay and I would thoroughly recomend it!
-
"A very comfortable, clean and stylish apartment in a beautiful house."
The living room and kitchen are huge and very well equipped and though the bedroom is smaller it's perfectly adequate with a comfortable bed. The garden is lovely with a stream running through and to have parking is a definite bonus in a very small village. The village is very quiet, which is a treat after a day visiting some fairly busy places. It was our first visit to the Lake District and we loved the area and packed a lot in to our week, it is about 15 to 20 miles from the popular lakes and some can get very crowded with parking a problem. We felt that the lack of WiFi was a problem, especially when planning walks and trips. Please Sykes could you give the correct information about where to find the key safe! Apparently you have been told several times. Gave us ten minutes of panic before we found the correct place.

"Pleasantly surprised with the size and comfort of the apartment"
-
"2 Cark House is a lovely, spacious apartment, well equipped and in a quiet area."
We enjoyed our stay, despite the weather! Hope to return one day.
-
"Great holiday and the flat was very clean and spacious."
It had everything you needed equipment wise. The only thing lacking was WiFi and for that reason would not return or recommend. It did not spoil our holiday and loved the apartment otherwise.
-
"The apartment was superb and fully equipped with just about everything you need."
I guess the only thing missing was some liquid hand soap in the bathroom as that isnt something most people would pack. We had a lovely few days in Cark but beware if you want to eat out as the restaurants seem to do food when they feel like it. We were booked in the Rose and Crown for a meal and when we turned up they said they had been trying to contact us all day as they had no chef. They hadn't called me once. The board outside the Engine pub said they do food every day so we called in there one night but they weren't doing food that day. Even the Londis shop sign said it was open until 8pm and when we went there as a last resort at 7pm to get a frozen pizza or something it was closed. So the cottage was superb but make sure you take supplies with you
-
"Brilliant apartment, lovely open space, bed was really comfortable, prime location for everything, just couldn’t seem to work the heating, was a little chilly sometimes."
-
"It needs to be made clear that 2 Cark House does not have any WiFi."
Whilst not a major issue for us, as the accomodation is in a valley there is also very limited telephone and 4G signal. The front door is very difficult to open, and have said this should be replaced if possible. Great place to explore from, and overall a nice place to stay.
-
"Cark House is an amazing place to stay."
It has lots on your doorstep, pub, shop, railway station and not far away a take away and bakers. It also has some lovely walks. It isn’t far from Cartmel which is a lovely village with some nice eateries. It is easy to access the rest of the Lake District and all that has to offer. It is a place where you can relax and unwind. It is so peaceful. The owner provides everything you can think of to make your stay enjoyable. The fact that there is no WiFi wasn’t a problem for us. We would definitely stay here again.
-
"In spite of the weather we had a lovely break."
The apartment was spacious and comfortable also very well placed to visit many parts of the lake district.Cartmel is only 5 minutes away with a good selection of good restaurants.
-
"2 Cark House is an excellent choice and I thorougly to recommend it!"
-
"Great apartment in this listed Georgian Gentleman’s house in Cark in Cartmel."
Very spacious, comfortable and well appointed, more than adequate for our stay in the southern lakes. I can highly recommend the Engine Inn which is about 200 metres away as it had good beer, good food and friendly welcoming staff. The location is very close to Holker Hall, though we didn’t get the chance to visit this time and is only about 15 mins drive from the steam railway at Haverthwaite which gives access to Lakeside and the Windermere Steamers. It is a short drive to Grange over Sands and the local train station is about 10 mins walk from the apartment. All in all, highly recommended and we will be looking to return there sometime next year hopefully.
-
"Exceeded expectations apart from cold bedroom."
Enjoyed nearby walks and all places vifited. Also had good weather! We do think that in the light of Covid 19 Sykes has a moral obligation to relate whether their letting properties have wifi access or not and if not the nearest medical or clinic contacts as could be crucial for elderly or vulnerable tenants.
-
"House was in a lovely quiet area but walkable distance to pub and shop."
Lovely apartment with on site parking. Not too far from Windermere and south lakes and we visited places we hadn't been previously. Would be better if WiFi was available as due to location mobile data is sometimes hit and miss, so if you are trying to book tickets on line for the likes of trains or visits to places then it can be difficult. Overall a great holiday
-
"Dishwasher only effective with more crockery"
-
"Really enjoyed our break at 2 Cark House and would thoroughly recommend this appartment."
-
"The accommodation at 2 Cark House was superb."
My better half and I loved the high ceilings which and warmth during our stay. Although the weather was cold and windy we weren’t prevented from getting out and about to enjoy the beautiful country and excellent eateries and cafes in the area so thank you for a lovely break and we can’t wait for our next visit.
-
"Apartment 2 was spacious, pristine modern living accommodation in a refurbished historic building."
Having car parking, trimmed garden and bridged rushing stream in front was a bonus. Everything needed for self catering was supplied, friendly shop and pub a couple of hundred yards away. We had a short break but it was comfortable enough for much longer stays.
-
"Superb apartment in a beautiful quiet location the only thing it needs is wifi as the network signal was near non existent."
-
"It was the large size and comfort, all nicely presented."
The only negative was the small bedroom compared to the rest of the apartment
-
"Great place to stay."
Spacious and very quiet location. Very nice garden to sit in and beautiful walks in the local area. Great kitchen with all you need. The only thing what would make our stay even much better, is the quality of the bed. It is not that the bedroom is too small, that doesn't matter. But the bed itself could be much more comfortable. Especcially the matrass. It doesn't support your body at all. That's really a pitty and could be a reason not to come back or suggest to others. If there would be a comfortable bed I sure would suggest others to book!

"The holiday was spoiled a little by the presence of workmen painting the exterior of the house."
They used a cherry picker which was extremely noisy and was parked overnight in the car park space allocated to us. This meant that we had to park at the front of the house which caused problems with the neighbour. As this property was advertised as a luxury apartment, perhaps extras such as more toilet rolls & a pint of milk in the fridge on arrival would be nice.
Thank you for your feedback. The owner was unaware there was a cherry picker outside the property which affected your parking and holiday experience. The owner was not notified of any issues during your stay. Had they had been then they would have got the workmen to remove the cherry picker. She passes on her sincere apologies on this matter. "A representative of the apartment owner visited while we were in the apartment and noted that my wife was using a wheelchair."
His reaction was concern that we were able to manage. Without any input from us, realised that a ramp at the front entrance would be a help for wheelchair users in the future and took the necessary measurements to have one made. We were really impressed by this concern for the comfort of guests at Cark House and it added to our satisfaction with the apartment as a base for our holiday and our willingness to recommend it.
-
"Directions as to how to find and enter the apartment were absolutely chaotic."
Otherwise great!!!
-
"Apartment very comfortable and well equipped and in a beautiful location."
Only downfall was no WiFi.... Fortunately the weather was good as had go outside to search online for local interesting places and to make calls..
-
"Unfortunately: Bedside lights required new bulbs unable to locate any in apartment, very difficult as very dark in Lake District."
Unable to eat in bed. Shaving mirror light another lamp not working from day one. Day four the main light in bedroom died on us so we had not lights in bedroom at all and none could be located in the apartment. It was obvious to us the main bed room light was about to go as it was so dim from day one the other lights should have been replaced on changeover day when the surely lights should be part of the checklist. We tried twice to ring the number but the line was busy.
I'm sorry the lightbulbs weren't working. There are numbers for the managing agent and my dad who lives round corner Their number is in the book in the flat as is my e-mail. Had we been made aware they would have been more than happy to assist you and replace these. All have now replaced except one over mirror in bathroom which appears to have been tampered with by someone and had missing spring which is required while new lighting fitting. This will be replaced promptly. Sorry for the inconvenience. Any problems are rectified as soon as we are aware of them. Kind regards, Property Owner
-
"We were disappointed at the lack of character internally."
This was an old property from the outside, but not so on the inside. It was a good base for some great walks.
-
"Accommodation was perfect in every way."
Clean, comfortable, well furnished. Excellent location for exploring the region - coast , lakes and mountains. Locals very friendly and helpful. And having perfect weather for the 4 days topped it off.
-
"Location was ideal, literally 2 minutes walk to local shop & Engine Inn which does excellent food & landlady very welcoming."
Quiet location & not too far to travel to Lakes & places of interest. Accommodation excellent, very clean & fantastic kitchen! Thank you
-
"NO TOASTER - when was the last time a self catering apartment didn't have a toaster?"
Found the instructions for a toaster, but NO TOASTER! Guess it broke, but owner could not be bothered to replace! VERY POOR. Spacious kitchen/ diner and lounge, BUT bedroom tiny. and bed very low making it difficult to get out without banging head on side wall. Would not book again for this reason.
We are sorry there was no toaster available during your stay. Unfortunately a previous guest had melted the toaster, this was replaced within a week of us becoming aware of this. Property Owner

"The property in Cark was well appointed, comfortable ,perfectly clean."
First class for our needs. The area is great with all the shops and pubs, eating houses you would require. can not fault property or the area. Great Lake district, locals .All very friendly. The Engine pub at the end of the round very good food.
-
"Excellent Apartment and Location."
Only thing missing was wifi.
-
"Found the apartment was not quick to warm up, bedroom especially felt cold."
Also dehumidifier started making an awful noise at 4am and just kept going off and coming on again. No Wi-fi I think that could have been noted on website. Wi-fi is an important way of life today and most places tend to have it.
-
"Lovely apartment, lovely setting, good artisan bakers and general dealer s in village."
And 2 pubs although winter opening hours when we there closed at lunch time so couldn't pop in for lunch. Plenty to see in surrounding area, good base to see the southern lakes district.
-
"The apartment is great and the environment is exceptionally quiet."
A great place to unwind and relax away from the world and recharge your batteries. Cartmel is within walking distance and a short train journey to Ulverston is worth a visit (particularly if you want to visit the Laurel & Hardy museum). We also used local circular bus to go to Grange Over Sands and viewed the bay with a walk along the promenade (Buses currently don't run on a weekend). The people in Cark are very friendly and helpful, particularly at the local Londis store.
-
"A good location for visiting a number of Houses and Gardens , in particular Holker Hall,Levens Hall & Sizergh Castle and if you are lucky(unlucky!"
) racing at Cartmel.
-
"We were very pleased with our accommodation."
We would certainly recommend the property to friends wanting to stay in the area.
-
"Lovely apartment in an old building with plenty of character."
Area was stunning with lovely scenic walks .
-
"Good accommodation."
Very pleasant dining-kitchen, well equipped. Easy walk to Rose and Crown which served tasty food. Interesting village and good situation for touring South Lakes.
