  • "Cosy cottage,a better sofa would help and the TV is far to small for the size of the room."

  • "The location, the building itself and the walled garden are stunning."

The bedroom is a generous size and the bed is big and comfortable. The interior is pretty basic - low level oven, very small screen TV, no USB port / socket and basic bathroom facilities (though the shower is lovely!). Extremely grateful to the housekeeper as the only person who worked out that the clock has to be set on the oven in order for the oven to operate. A pity we learned that only after having not been able to use it on our first evening. Even though Cartmel is only a half mile or so away, the road is not a safe thoroughfare for walkers. No-one's fault, just a fact! All in all, would certainly recommend.

  • "The setting and location certainly had the wow factor."

Stunning scenery and the walled garden was amazing, we loved working out all the different flowers there. Lots of seating around the garden to enjoy the views and peaceful atmosphere. The accommodation was good, the super king size bed very comfy, loved the little balcony. Overall the cottage had everything we needed and we had a lovely holiday. A couple of minor things (this didn't change our enjoyment of the cottage but feel need a mention). Some more comfy chairs would have been nice if there longer than a week as not very comfortable for a cosy evening in front of the fire/tv. As previously mentioned by others a mirror at the end of the drive would be good to help getting out safely but it is a fairly quiet road and you just needed to be cautious pulling out.

  • "Well where do i start."

The most lovely of setting. In a quite area but close to so many places that are a must to see in the wonderful Lakes. I have looked back over many other reviews and it is very obvious that no one takes any notice what guest are telling you. Some of the issues i had other guest had back in 2016. The cottage is great for a base but you do need to address the fact it needs an update. The settee is very uncomfortable so much so i sat on the floor. You need to put the tiny TV back into the dolls house and get a decent size one. It was clean enough but i can see why other guest have complained. You really do need to put a mirror at the end of your drive it is not safe pulling out onto the road. The walled garden was a real treat, thank god i could use it as the whole week was completely ruined due to the fact the whole of the complex was hired out to a film company filming a Bollywood Film. I did not need an alarm clock as i was woken up at 6am every morning and again gone 11pm, I know the owner spoke to them but with around 30 people staying there there was no way it was going to be a good break. The smell from the chefs cooking was not good, filling the cottage all day, every day. There were black bags of food open in the yard and being enjoyed each day by the wildlife. I did get a part refund but still came home very stressed. You have one hell of a gem if you could only made the most of it. It was a bonus that the sun was out all week so i could go out as much as possible. Sykes sorry being told my only option was take the refund and go home was not really what i wanted to hear. This holiday was booked for a year. The film crew booked a few weeks.

Lovely quaint cottages set in fabulous grounds which are very well maintained. The cottage was warm constantly which was very welcome given it was March. Martin was very easy to get hold of if any assistance needed which there was none. I’m looking forward to my next booked stay for New Year

  • "Cosy cottage with a large bed."

The walk to the local pub took around 15 minutes, albeit on a twisty road where some people did drive too fast. Alternatively you could take a leisurely walk up the fell and back into the village rewarding yourself with a well earned pint. Though you may want to leave a couple of hours for this option! The grounds are lovely, the walled kitchen garden especially was enjoyable to walk around. Also provided an opportunity to safely let the dog off the lead. The shared laundry facilities were handy when walks turned muckier than expected. We'd happily come back for our next visit to the lakes.

  • "Area is lovely and walled garden is beautiful."

Cottage itself needs a lot of attention. Place smelled of stale urine and generally dirty. Sofa was uncomfortable and one chair was filthy. Kitchen was well equipped but with mainly old items. Cooker was very dirty. Carpet was thread bare in places and you wouldn’t walk round without shoes or slippers on.

  • "Cottage is in a beautiful estate and fundamentally it is how it is shown in listing."

It is in close proximity to Cartmel and not to far from Windermere. My advice however, is take your own towels as what was provided i may have been using for cleaning cloths back home ..including the bath mat which probably needs to be binned. Its just lacking TLC and items such as dish drainer was rusty so we didn't use it and cold water tap the washer has gone. We embraced it as a quirky place to stay in a beautiful area, but if you are expecting high end or even standard facilities you may be disappointed. Owners just need to walk around it and replace / upgrade certain things and it would improve it alot without major cost.

It was very clean and had all the amenities we required. Great to be able to walk straight outside and follow the footpaths up to walk in the Cartmel fells. It was a little difficult to find, so signage could be clearer on the gates of Longlands Estate. Booking was easy through Sykes.

Cartmel is a 10 minute walk away and is a beautiful village. The cottage is a bit shabby in places but it adds to the character of the building. The porch as you walk in could do with a clean and dust to get rid of the cobwebs and spiders. Also the end of the drive could do with a traffic mirror as you can’t see what is coming from the right. But would we return? Most definitely. Worth every penny x

  • "This was our first visit to the Lake District and we found this to be a wonderful location within a large country house setting and grounds."

We used it as a base to explore the local area on foot with our dog walking up to the Hospice of Hampsfell from the rear of the property and back down into the idyllic village of Cartmel for a pub lunch. There we found an amazing cheese shop, bakery and brewery. An hours drive and we were soon walking through Grizedale Forest, we also drove back up to walk around Derwentwater and explored Keswick on the way round. On our return to the grooms quarters we would light the fire, make a bite to eat and snuggle up for a quiet, cosy night.

Empty flower pot at front door, and ashtray on bedroom balcony were both full of cigarette ends when we arrived. We are non smokers ourselves but it created a bad impression. Bedroom and lounge were full of very small moths flying around all night. Kitchen utensil drawer was full of bread crumbs. We stripped bed as asked and found feather duvet had stains on it. looked grubby, as did inside of lamp shades. Curtain in bedroom torn at top. Just felt the whole question of cleaning needs to be more thorough. Nice warm cottage, let down by skimping on cleaning.

The grounds are a delight and the walled garden was a joy to walk around spotting all the lovely fruit/vegetables and different species of flowers. The only negative comment we had 2 super huge bath towels but no hand towels. I think this was probably an oversight and didn't see the cleaners to mention this. You do needd a car to get into Cartmel as there are no footpaths.

  • "We had a lovely stay except for the last night when we did not get to sleep until past 4 am."

I think it would be worth informing future guests that the cottage is one small part of a larger development which is set up for large groups. The place was ideal for us & our very nervous rescue dog until the Friday. On the Friday groups of men began to arrive throughout the afternoon & evening until there were 25+. A huge amount of alcohol was piled up on a table in the quad outside our back window & some of the men began to drink on arrival. They used the large barn for their entertainment and were continually on the move between the big house & the barn all night. Being 2 women in this sort of situation was unsettling as we are aware a large number of men together with huge amounts of alcohol can be unpleasant. As it turned out the men did not bother us ( we had drawn all the curtains & locked the door) but we were on high alert all evening as the noise level & movement grew and it spoiled our last evening. I think it is important that guests are informed about issues like this before they book. Had we known that a large male only group was booked in we would not have stayed & it has certainly put us off going back there again. I hope you understand our issue with this. We did not feel safe & although the men were simply enjoying themselves we were on edge.

An old school cottage without too many frills but none the worse for it. Everything we needed for a week away was there and available. The sizeable shared grounds are great and most welcome for dogs. We did have one small issue but it was dealt with very quickly. It’s about half a mile from the village which was perfect, plenty to do close by.

We really loved the herb/vege/fruit garden, what a cooks paradise collecting all the stuff for a great dinner. Thank you for letting us use this ammenity! The cottage was small and comfy, the gas fireplace just great and great bedroom ensuit. The kitchen could have been a little better equiped, we missed a decent kitchen knife, but for the rest perfect.
