  • "We had a wonderful holiday at Damson Barn."

It was everything we could have wished. It was very clean and comfortable and had all the necessities to ensure that our stay was enjoyable. The owners of the farm were very friendly and accommodating. They were only a stone throw away if we needed them. The location of the Barn was fantastic. The lakes were only a short drive away and we were nestled at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dale's too. This has to be the best accommodation that we have stayed at with Sykes. It was the perfect break for us and we will definitely be returning.

The cottage itself was beautiful, well kept, cosy and comfortable and had all the amenities we needed. The hot tub was a huge bonus at the end of a day exploring. It couldn't be located any better, between the Dales and Lake District we were spoilt for choice for where to visit. Mike and Katherine were excellent hosts; friendly, approachable and very knowledgeable about the local area. They even gave us a tour of their working farm, which was great fun. Everyone in our family agreed it was one of our best holidays and can't wait to return again one day. Thank you!

A very gratefully received welcome pack on arrival. Our hosts were brilliant, made to feel we were friends rather than clients. Can 100% recommend if you are looking for a quiet getaway. Nearest pub is about 20 min walk, not bad in summer with long evenings, not sure we'd do it in the short days! Plenty to do in the area so great location. We hope to come back before too long.

It was our first trip away with our new baby who is 5 months old and it was the perfect place to go. Michael and Katherine are very welcoming and friendly and kindly showed us around the farm and the various animals they keep. The cottage is well equipped and was very clean when we arrived. Kirkby Lonsdale is a short drive away or a nice 45 mins walk. There are plenty of places to eat and drink there, and artisan shops. We also went to Ambleside one day which is about a 35 mins drive. There is a decent pub called the Highwayman about 10 mins drive away that does really good food. We also got a pizza takeaway from the Royal Hotel which was good. Would thoroughly recommend staying and I am sure we will be back..

  • "The property was absolutely everything we hoped for and more."

It was stylish and comfortable, clean and practical. The rooms were so spacious and there was nothing that was missing. We were especially surprised at how fast the internet speed was, considering it's such an isolated property. Not that we spent much time on our computers, of course, but it was really great to be able to sit back and watch shows on Netflix and such in the evenings without the internet constantly dropping out, which is a problem we've encountered at other holiday properties far less isolated. The location was wonderful, too. There were so many great restaurants and pubs within a short drive of the property (I highly recommend the Italian restaurant in Ingleton - that was a highlight of the week for us), and the property was only a short drive to the Lake District (just over half an hour to Windermere) and we even managed two days out at Blackpool (around an hour). I recommend booking restaurants well in advance if you can - we were there on half term and found that getting tables at some of the restaurants was a tad tricky, especially on Mondays/Tuesdays when half of the restaurants in the area were closed. I was slightly hesitant about staying on a working farm because they can get noisy, but we slept with the windows wide open and we weren't disturbed once. Our hosts were wonderful. Katherine was especially friendly, and we loved being shown around the farm and being able to feed the little lambs. If we're in the Lake District again I would definitely make another booking.

  • "Thank you so much, we had such an amazing time at Damson Barn!"

We stayed there for 7 nights and every night was fantastic. The barn is situated in a brilliant spot, nestled in the countryside. It was peaceful, picturesque and tranquil and we were far enough from Kirkby Lonsdale to be able to see all the stars at night and not be disturbed by any traffic noise. Our wonderful hosts provided us with information about local days out and activities which was a lovely little touch. Kirkby Lonsdale was about a five minute drive away and is a cute little town. There are lots of lovely walks that you can take in and around this town and even visit 'Ruskin's View' and the Devils Bridge. The town of Kendal is also close by, with Scotland being about a two hour drive away. So there are lots of things to do and places to visit in and around this gorgeous holiday cottage. The barn itself was immaculate. It had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The underfloor heating is to die for and the hot tub is regularly cleaned and maintained for our use. The beds were comfortable and we have actually gone and bought the same duvet cover set as the ones in the barn as it was the best week's sleep I have ever had. In regards to COVID-19, the barn was very well cleaned and our hosts went above and beyond to make sure that they were doing everything they could to help stop the spread of covid. We felt very comfortable there and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who asked. Thank you for letting us stay in your wonderful holiday barn :)

It is presented beautifully, in a quiet, yet convenient location supported by excellent hosts. Such is its excellence that we booked for next year after just the 2nd day of our 1 week stay. We used it as a base for exploring the Western Dales but it is equally convenient for the Sothern Lakes. In forty years of holidaying we have always chosen luxury accommodation at a sensible price. This is probably the best of the best self-catering accommodation in which we have stayed, providing excellent value for money. Highly recommended!

It is located in the middle of the countryside with sheep bleating around you (wonderfully surreal whilst you are in the jacuzzi!) and with a working farm next door. The friendly and helpful owners have thought of everything in this modern barn conversion and the Barn was spotlessly clean. We were very comfortable and made good use of the lovely log fire. The owners greeted us on arrival but then kept their distance unless we wanted directions or information then they were very friendly and helpful. Farmer Michael was also very patient with our many questions about the animals on the farm and in the adjacent fields. Whilst you do need a car to reach Damson Barn there are also some lovely walks directly from the Barn to local villages. Alternatively, other villages with a lot of choices to eat/drink and supermarkets are only a short drive away. For a slightly longer journey (about 45 mins), the Lakes are certainly worth a visit; they are amazing. We will certainly be booking again. .

The town of Kirkby Lonsdale is only three miles down the road, guaranteed to keep you busy with local shops and sights to uncover.

Have a quiet walk down to the river past the beautiful church of St Mary’s, pausing to take in ‘Ruskin’s View’ and then potter back along the river to Devils Bridge.

About the location

KIRKBY LONSDALE

Kendal 9 miles.

An attractive market town, Kirkby Lonsdale is situated in the heart of the Lune Valley, midway between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. The town was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, and holds a 13th century Market Charter. Nowadays, Thursday is market day, a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive independent shops in the town, or the many 17th and 18th century buildings which still stand. The town was also a finalist for the High Street of the Year Award in 2016. This part of the Lune Valley was a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, and was made famous by Ruskin – his "view" of the valley is still spectacular. The medieval Devil’s Bridge spans the river, and the quiet country lanes are ideal for exploring by car, bike, or even horse. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks, making the area an ideal location for a break, whatever time of year. When voting Kirkby Lonsdale as the ‘Best Place to Live in The North West’ in 2019, The Sunday Times commented it is “An unbeatable Lake District location, bags of community spirit and one of the cleanest high streets in the country".
