"We had a great holiday at this lovely cottage, very clean and comfortable particularly the beds."
Very spacious and beautifully decorated and as described. The welcome pack was very generous and very welcomed! we would highly recommend for a great stay.
-
"We were very happy with the accommodation and it provided a good base for our holiday."
It was well equipped and comfortable. The welcome pack was nice and the easy access to Penrith was useful. We stayed as four adults but did not find it too small as others have suggested. Suggestion to make it even more enjoyable would be bigger bath towels to compliment the wonderful bath.
-
"Both settees were uncomfortable no support whatsoever The bed is only a double and the mattress of poor quality"
-
"A delightful cottage."
Spacious, airy, comfortable.
-
"Swallow’s Nest was perfect for 4 adults (two couples) who wanted to explore the Lake District."
It is ideally situated close to the M6 but looking out onto beautiful countryside (the balcony is a delight with a cup of coffee, listening to the birds). The property is clean and is comfortable and plenty of space for the 4 of us for the week.
-
"Easily located property with good area for car parking."
Tastefully decorated bedrooms and living area. The kitchen was fully equipped with an extensive range of cooking equipment and appliances. Thank you for the welcome pack of milk, juice, croissants and wine. Efficient heating system so we did not need to use the log burner. As another review mentioned the towels were barely adequate for showering. The second(twin) bedroom would be more suited to children than adults as space and storage is minimal. Penrith was an easy drive away for supermarket shopping and the Sun Inn in Newton Reigny had a good menu with friendly service.

"We enjoyed our stay at this cottage very much."
The natural oak woodwork everywhere is very attractive, and having two bathrooms in a two bedroom cottage is a rare luxury. It is conveniently situated for visiting both the Lake District and Northumberland, and very accessible from the M6, yet in quiet countryside. There is no garden to sit out in, but so much magnificent countryside to visit that you won’t want to stay back at base, and the Juliette balcony gives the large living-dining area a lovely open and fresh feel in warm weather.
-
"Good location and adequate accommodation."
Bedrooms very small with uncomfortable beds. Good shower but awful worn out towels with only one toilet roll provided, very mean! Upstairs lovely with open plan lounge and diner/ kitchen. Outside limited parking for 2 cars. No outside area apart from a bench where your cars are parked. Overall okay but would not return as have stayed at a lot better self catering accommodation in the Lakes.
-
"Fantastic stay at Swallow’s Nest."
A welcome pack of milk, juice, croissants, wine and biscuits was a lovely surprise. Great, quiet location just minutes from the motorway. Kitchen had everything we needed to self cater and the cottage in general was a lovely home from home. Would definitely stay here again.
-
"We had the most amazing time and would love to come again."
Such a delightful cottage. Quiet and cosy. Perfect for us! The welcome pack was generous. Easter bunnies for the kids was a lovely touch which added to the excitement of arrival. The facilities were spotless and everything we needed was provided. It was always warm so we didn't need the log burner but tried it once for fun. It took us a while to work out the DVD player but we eventually found the tiny buttons at the bottom right side of the TV. If that was added to the information pack it would save some frustration as I read other people had the same issue. The shower was amazing and the kids enjoyed the novelty of a corner bath! The property is close to Penrith so we could top up groceries easily. Ullswater and the surrounding area is stunning and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring it. The steamers were great fun after a long day walking. We also took a trip out to Hadrian's Wall, which also had lovely views. I can't recommend this lovely cottage enough. I'd live there if I could. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience.

"A lovely cottage close to the lake district and Penrith, had everything we needed and more"
-
"Excellent property fitted out to a high standard and set in a quiet but convenient location."
It was ideal for the four of us - 2 couples. Everything we needed was provided and we had a very good and comfortable stay. The property was very clean and warm and we loved the downstairs underfloor heating Just two very minor niggles -the chairs at kitchen table were a little low and when the sun shone a blind on the high kitchen window would have been useful. But these are minor and we would happily stay here again.
-
"This was our second stay at Swallows Nest and it was just as good as we remember it, really warm and cosy after a day out exploring the beautiful lake district."
There was nothing that wasn't thought of, would definitely recommend.
-
"It was a lovely holiday made all the more special by the lovely accommodation."
-
"We had a fantastic stay in Swallows Nest."
The accommodation was clean, comfortable and had a very well equipped kitchen. The welcome food pack was a lovely addition, especially as we had forgotten to bring milk!!! We would definitely recommend Swallows Nest to anyone wanting to visit to Northern Lakes.
-
"It is a really lovely property and well laid out the open plan kitchen living area really works well and was spacious for the 4 of us."
It is very well located for the northern Lake District and has easy access to the M6. We would happily book Swallow's Nest again and have recommended to friends.
-
"A lovely cottage in a beautiful part of the country, with easy access to the Lake District."
The welcome package of bread, milk, croissants, jams and a selection of drinks was very thoughtful. The cottage was very comfortable, clean, and more than enough room for myself, my husband and teenage daughter and even though we had good weather we did enjoy lighting the log burner.
-
"Excellent accommodation, cosy and comfortable and extremely clean."
Found it really handy for penrith as well as close to the beautiful lakes for some great days out exploring. Had a fantastic week with lots of sunny weather.
-
"Very comfortable and well equipped upside down property."
Woodburning stove upstairs but it wasn't cold enough to light it! Underfloor heating downstairs and two bathrooms. Everything we needed in the kitchen and complimentary items included. Nice countryside views from the upstairs. Short drive to Penrith. Lovely quiet area.
-
"Chairs at dining table too low."
Bed uncomfortable & too short. Both sofa's uncomfortable.
-
"The pictures of the cottage do not do it justice!"
The conversion has been carried out to a very high standard with an exceptionally well kitted out kitchen. A real home from home, perfect for going back to after a soggy walk in the beautiful Lake District!
-
"Though we were not allowed into the property until later because of extra cleaning because of covid we found dirty tableware which we had to wash before using also the chopping board."
There where lots of cobwebs particularly in the twin bedded room, there was a brochure under the double bed so had not been hoovered properly, also dead insect on skirting board in twin bedroom. Trying to get the DVD to work was a work of art, following the instructions in the folder didn't achieve anything, possibly because of different remote. The views were disappointing as being an upside down house we expected much better. The cottage was certainly not older person friendly, it needed a banister on the other side of the wall at the bottom of the stairs.
-
"Fabulous little cottage."
The only disappointment was that we were so warm we didn’t need to light the stove - even when temps outside were 7 degrees. Hardly used the CH either. The living area is a delight in the mornings with the high windows letting in all the morning sun. All mod cons but with a lovely traditional feel. And wonderful lights everywhere. We felt we were in a remote part of Cumbria, but the motorway (unheard) is 2 minutes away and Penrith is a great little town just a short drive away. And not far to Borrowdale, Ullswater and the rest of the. Or there Lakes. Highly recommended.
-
"Outstanding cottage in good location."
Extremely well equipped and very little to be able to suggest to improve things. Perhaps a larger outdoor space would be desirable.
-
"Lovely cottage, well equipped in a lovely area for exploring Northern Lakes"
-
"Comfortable, clean and well equipped accommodation Good location Welcome gifts Friendly host"
-
"The accommodation exceeded our expections and was ideally positioned to explore the lake district and surrounding area."
-
"The warm welcomewe received - the extras - soap, toilet paper, teas, coffee, hot chocolate, milk, bread, butter and marmalade."
-
"One of the best holiday cottages we’ve stayed at, it had everything you’d need and so clean."
I would definitely recommend this place. Thank you x
-
"The location was good, off the motorway at junction 41 and within minutes we were at Swallow's Nest, ideal location for visiting Ullswater ( for walking the Ullswater Way ) and for Keswick, such a lovely relaxing cottage to come back to after our days out."
So handy having the Booths Supermarket at Penrith, it was good to be able to stock up on supplies en route. Only had a 3 day break and with so much to do around the area, would definitely like to come back for longer.
-
"Excellent accommodation ideally situated for exploring the Lake District."
Lots of good places to eat within a short distance. The Sun Inn just up the road at Newton Reigny serves lovely home cooked food and a delicious Sunday roast. We would highly recommend Swallows Nest as a base. Cosy, warm and spotlessly clean.
-
"We really appreciated our welcome email from Swallows Nest with super useful information."
The welcome 'basket' was a lovely touch along with the fresh croissants, bottle of wine and fresh flowers. The location was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, many thanks!!
-
"Very good accommodation double bedroom (twin beds) quite cramped but dictated by the size of the overall footprint."
However great use of the space and all other items excellent

"My wife and I have used Sykes Cottages for years and Swallows Nest is one of the best cottages that we have stayed in."
Everything that one would need for a vacation rental is included in the cottage and it is well situated for days in the Lake District and exploring Cumbria. I would recommend this vacation rental to anyone.

"We were met by the owner of the property shortly after we arrived and he was very helpful and welcoming."
We also met up on departure and were thanked for our choice of cottage. Everything about the cottage was excellent and its location perfect for what we wanted to do. All in all, a good holiday in a lovely cottage.
-
"Swallows Nest is an excellent base for seeing the lakes and being just off the motorway, it is very easy to get there."
-
"We have had the 'Best' holiday ever at Swallows Nest in Catterlen the barn conversion is of the very highest order in our opinion ,we have stayed in a variety of cottages through a variety of companies over the last 40 years and this is the first one to not only match the brochure description but exceed it by a long way!"
!!!...…..Many places of interest were but a short drive away from the property. I wish I could give Sykes the complement for the fantastic weather we had but I think that will be put down to luck. Our fourth visit to the Lakes since 1972 and the first in sunshine...Hot!. Just to repeat 'Swallows Nest' is Fantastic.
-
"Really enjoyed our stay at swallows Nest."
Every thing was so easy to use as there was instructions for everything. Even the wood burner lit 1st time. Ideally placed to visit more popular places in the lakes. Was good that they were happy to let the property for 3 nights even over the Easter period. Will definitely return to swallow nest.

"Absolutely beautiful, comfortable home from home."
. Debbie is extremely kind, friendly and helpful.. Highly recommended❤️

"A wonderful property with all the facilities you could need."
Myself and my family had a lovely stay here and would happy go back to this cottage again.

"Perfect bolt hole for the Lakes"
-
""Swallows Nest" is superb and so too are the owners Debbie and Derek."
-
"The owners Debbie and Derek have created the most amazing Barn Conversion."
It was certainly 5 star quality . Everything was just perfect and you felt as if you were the first people to stay there .......
-
"The cottage was beautifully kept and a credit to the owners."
The only thing I didn't like about Sykes was the amount of marketing emails (which I have now opted out of ). If there was just one every 3 weeks I would probably read them but an email every 4 or 5 days is overwhelming and just feels like spam.

"Staying at the location for this property was ideal for getting around the area."
The property was excellent and met our needs perfectly. It is certainly one of the very better ones in which we have stayed (have used self catering accommodation now for over 30 years). The thoughtful development of the barn by the owners is to a very high standard and they who live adjacent to the property are extremely welcoming. We really could find nothing to be critical about.

"Swallows nest Is a cute cottage wich had everything we needed."
Debbie provided us with a cot, highchair and stair gate for our 7 month old baby. It was clean and comfortable and we had a great time. One downside was that the rooms are very small and we couldn't fit the small travel cot in and close the bedroom door so we had to move our double bed up to the wall so the cot would fit next to our bed. But besides for that, all was perfect! Thank you Debbie and family for the wonderful friendly service. Gerald and Rebecca
