  • "We had a great stay at the Old Cook House."

Julie was so helpful and approachable. Fab location to explore the lakes & travel to Gretna for our wedding. The cottage is positioned well to be able to travel around, but is still incredibly peaceful. The on site goats were hysterical and caused great entertainment!

  • "Excellent property - peaceful despite proximity to motorway, comfy sofas, spacious well equipped kitchen (could do with a large pan) , smart TV with Roku box so you can log into your own amazon prime etc."

Upstairs bedroom doesn't have a door but this was not a problem with our son due to direction of the stairs so able to fully block out light from kitchen/diner and there is also a thick curtain between lounge and kitchen/diner and the lounge is off to the side. Beware Lake District water is very hard. We would definitely stay again.

  • "The Old Cook House was very clean and comfortable."

Perfectly situated for Hutton Hall which was where we were visiting. Also for both the Dales and the Lakes. I personally found the mattress a little firm and needed a topper (which I brought just in case) and the duvets were lovely quality but too warm so we just used the duvet covers together with the throws provided (they could've done with being a little longer). Obviously we appreciate beds and bedding preferences are very individual. We weren't aware that it was a working farm which probably explained the flies. We had windows open due to the heat but kept the curtains closed. Everywhere was nice and clean and we had a good stay.

  • "Lovely cottage in ideal situation 5mins from M6, ideal for the lakes and Yorkshire."

Friendly owners and friendly goats at the window (goats not owners). Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the old cook house. Thanks

  • "A very clean, well maintained and comfortable cottage on a working farm."

(The cute newborn lambs were a joy to watch) The cottage is ideally situated just off the M6 motorway and is within easy reach of the scenic countryside in Cumbria, the Lake District, Northumberland, the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway. Shopping and supermarkets can be reached in Penrith which is 3.8 miles away or Carlisle just 20 minutes up the M6. This cottage with the 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms is in an ideal location and that contributed (along with a week of fair weather) to a lovely holiday and also experiencing some beautiful scenery. An added bonus is a very conveniently situated charging point. (Handy for EV car owners) Credit to the owners of this cottage goes to Julie and David, a very friendly couple who are on site but discreet and always there to help if necessary. I would highly recommend this cottage.

  • "We had an amazing 4 night stay in an area with plenty of things to do from walking to lovely gardens."

The Larch Cottage Nurseries must be one of the best nurseries in the country and their range of plants for sale is the best I have ever seen. The farm on which we were staying was lovely and the accommodation very comfortable, the beds very comfortable and the choice of shower or sit in bath was perfect for someone who is not quite as flexible as they used to be. David and Julie were the most friendly of hosts and we were lucky enough to see most of their animals , the lambs and the kid goat were especially cute. Thank you for making our stay memorable.

  • "This cottage was an absolute delight, and the owners were friendly without being intrusive."

It was easy to find from the M6, and the kitchen was really well stocked. The only negative thing was that I was expecting the bath in the upstairs bathroom to be the standard length and it was much shorter. So if you want a long soak that might not be for you. But the downstairs shower was the best I've ever used in a holiday cottage. I was a bit worried when I discovered it's near a caravan site, but needn't have been. It's a small site for touring caravans, with about 6 spaces, and it was beautifully peaceful. Overall it was a really good option for our weekend away and I would definitely recommend it.

  • "This cottage was the perfect place to stay for our visit to the Lake District."

It was cleaned to a very high standard and the owners clearly took the pandemic very seriously. We were quite sceptical going away during the pandemic, but staying here we felt very safe. The cottage was really homely, and we thoroughly enjoyed having our breakfast out in the courtyard every morning. It was very peaceful and we enjoyed the company of the sheep next door! The setting on the farm was beautiful too. The location was great also, only 10 mins drive to Penrith to get all your essentials. We'd highly recommend The Clickham Inn for food, which again is only 10 mins drive. Only 30 mins to Keswick, which is my favourite place to visit in the Lake District and has the best lake too. Even closer is Ullswater which is also very pretty and has the Aira Force Waterfall walk too which is worth visiting. Look no further, book here and you won't be disappointed!!

  • "The cottage was so comfortable and we felt very at home."

The accommodation was very warm which was welcome because the weather was quite cold. We had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay and Julie the owner was the perfect host, making sure everything was okay for us, and willing to help if we needed it, yet she was never intrusive. It was great being on the farm during the lambing season and seeing the newborn lambs in the field right outside the cottage. We would be happy to return to this cottage in the future.
