The owners are very friendly and nice people. Florence absolutely loved spending some time on the working farm, and the owners were very nice with her. The cottage is well-equipped and comfy, with great views over the Howgill Fells. Good hiking trails in the area (including from the farm, which is not far from the Pennine Way) and handily located for easy access to both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Sedbergh is a lovely little market town with some nice places to eat and a fantastic secondhand bookshop (Westwood Books). All in all, heartily recommended. We'll be back, I'm sure (to try out the Cross Keys).

"We had a really lovely holiday but the cottage didn't really meet my expectations of being covid-safe at the current time."
There were lots of scatter cushions, ornaments and a huge amount of kitchen equipment (a lot of which wasn't particularly clean) - I had expected a lot of these items to be removed to enable more thorough cleaning in between stays. We would go back but I would struggle to recommend it to others at the moment because of this.

The views were wonderful and the owners were very nice and friendly. We would definitely go back to this location. The only thing we found wrong was that the mattress on the double bed had little body and support - I find this difficult as I have a back problem - but in comparision to everything else that is a minor blip and we loved every minute there.

The cottage itself was perfectly positioned for a couple just wanting a bit of peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle, and charmingly cosy inside, whilst being well stocked with all you need for a self catering break. The nearby town of Sedbergh is fab for pubs, food, and browsing the bookstores. It is also perfectly placed for day trips out to places like Kendal, Ulverston and Windermere. The surrounding countryside is simply perfect...all rolling hills and waterfalls...ideal for forgetting it all for a day or two. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and are planning on visiting again soon.

We were not disappointed. The cottage was very comfortable and had everything that we needed. The area was beautiful and excellent for walking. Mrs Joyce was always there if needed and was exceptionally helpful and friendly.

Mrs Joyce, the owner was friendly, kind and helpful. The three sheepdogs were highly entertaining. A good choice of places to eat in Sedbergh. Within easy reach of Kendal and the Lakes but we kept local.

Birks Farm Cottages
Sedbergh 2 miles. Three 17th century Grade II listed barn conversions, set on the owners' working farm within the Dales National Park, just 2 miles from Sedbergh, a new book town, and within easy reach of The Lake District. Knott View and Brant View and Knott Lodge boast outstanding views of the valley and dramatic Howgill Fells and have been lovingly restored to provide spacious, comfortable accommodation. Each property offers lovely bedrooms and a patio area with furniture, ideal for sitting out and relaxing especially during the month of July when the owners’ hay meadows are awash with rare and protected flowers, a spectacle to behold! Surrounded by rolling farmland, there are excellent footpaths from the doorstep to Cautley Spout, Britain’s highest waterfall, and on through dramatic Dentdale, while the local area is home to various wildlife including pheasants, badgers and red squirrels. With the Farfield Mill Arts and Heritage Centre and the towns of Hawes and Dent all within easy reach, these lovely properties make an ideal base in which to relax and unwind and from which to tour both the Lakes and Dales at any time of the year.

Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), set at the foot of the dramatic and wild Howgill Fells, is an ancient market town in northern Dentdale. Sedbergh is situated just inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is only 12 miles from the Lake District National Park. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has an olde worlde atmosphere. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes an ideal year-round holiday destination.
