  • "Very good cottage."

Better than the pictures. We had 4 adults staying. I think 6 would have been very crammed in. 4 was ok. The lounge area has some very large mismatched chairs and sofas and a large coffee table. It would have worked better to have ‘tidier ‘ furniture as it was hard to leave the room without falling over someone’s feet The furniture in here was quite worn and a little grubby too. Otherwise we found everything to be very good. Excellent white fluffy towels and a good bathroom. The cottage is situated well for walking and has a very good pub. If you have a large car , it is better to cross over in front of the church -rather than try to negate the 6 foot 6 inches steep stone edged squeeze lane just before you turn left to the cottage.

  • "It was our 7th visit to Underfell."

We love the location. It is unspoilt and lots of walks straight from the doorstep. However the furniture in living room is past its best with stains and worn. But other than that look forward to our next visit there.

  • "Underfell is a great property located in a perfect spot to explore the Lakes!"

The kitchen is amazingly equipped and the house is comfortable with lots of games and books to make a great stay. We did find the bathroom description not as what we expecting i.e. we were expecting an ensuite with shower so perhaps this needs rewording. The layout of the bathrooms also can make it a little tricky. Some maintenance could done with being completed too, very tight hot tap on WC by kitchen for example. All in though would recommend!

Walking round the Langdale valley from the door. Short drive to the bottom of Stickle Ghyll. Cottage was very clean, quality fittings and furniture throughout, very comfortable. Wifi was great. If you want hot water in the shower and bath be sure to press the boost button in the cupboard. 10/10 would stay there again.

Re maintenance: There were two buckets in the top floor loo when we arrived. When it rained, water dripped from the beam into the buckets. Maybe the roof has a slate missing?? We've reported to lakelovers and I'm sure the owners will sort it out as it's obvious they love the house. It didn't spoil our stay - we loved it!

We have been to this area for many years now and this is the best cottage we’ve had. The extra space this cottage provides over the 3 floors is perfect for a family with grown up children and we especially liked the boot space and extra toilet! The views and local walks were beautiful. Thank you for loaning us your cottage.

Great location and good parking. Nice facilities and really cosy - Some feed back for improvements. Freezer needs defrosting. Pillows were a little hard so some softer options would be good. Recycling facilities would be good as we had to travel to Ambleside to dispose of bottles/cans/cardboard.

The stairs to the lower bedroom were very steep and I had to crawl up and down them. Crockery although clean was chipped. Having read previous reviews we took everything we might need as there are no extras, salt, teabags, soap etc. An enjoyable stay.

  • "We stayed in Underfell for a quick 3 night break ahead of Christmas."

The house was everything we’d hoped for. For Winter breaks where it’s cold and damp and dark at 1530, it’s even more important to be warm and comfortable - Underfell exceeded our expectations from arrival. We loved the quirky layout, and soon found our way around and the house was super clean with everything working as it should. It was a nice touch having the night lights dotted around and this aided navigation at night . There were 3 of us (mum and two adult children) so we used all 3 bedrooms and all were super comfortable. Having space for wet and muddy boots and coats very useful. And never have we stayed somewhere with 4 loos! It’s important to add that I think this house is very good value and the owners should be applauded for not hiking up the prices as others in the area have done. Thank you.

  • "What a cosy cottage!"

We had a fabulous stay at Underfell. We felt it was very practically laid out, making the most of the building. The upstairs bedrooms were so cosy and the beds were wonderfully comfortable, we all had a brilliant night's sleep. Everything you could possibly need in the kitchen and all the kids toys & books were an amazing added bonus and gave us parents at least half an hour's peace (thank you!). I was looking forward to my morning cuppa on the garden terrace but the bench was broken, this was the only downside from the stay. Thank you very much we loved Underfell and would absolutely recommend it. P.S We were a family of four with a 6 & 2 year old.

Thank you for your lovely feed back! Really glad you enjoyed your stay, I replaced the bench in the summer so I will check on that to make sure it is in good order. Property Owner

The coat drying cupboard in the boot room was useful, especially as we had to unload the car in a downpour! Comfortable, clean & tidy home from home that we all enjoyed staying in & all said we would like to return to again. Especially lovely was the double aspect view in the sitting room - the smaller side window, giving views of the backing hillside, was particularly pleasing. Thank you to the owner's for sharing this lovely cottage with us.

  • "There were only three of us staying in the cottage and that was fine."

Six people would have been crowded. It was a great location for local walks. The cleaning and other basic supplies in the cottage was very poor. Even since covid I have not stayed anywhere lacking in such basics. The garden needs some attention. The parking space is only for one car and it is stretching things too far to say two smart cars.

Thank you for your feedback. Heart of the lakes are in charge of the cleaning and I am sorry that their service was not up to standard on this occasion. The cottage is indeed in a great location and has the charm of many Lakes cottages. The parking bay fits an estate car or camper van comfortably. Property Owner

Stunning views from all aspects.Kitchen very well equipped and comfortable lounge suite and very comfortable beds. Information packs are out of date though and we only discovered the games box on the last day when we opened what we thought was a linen basket for our used bedding. Stairs quite steep. Ideal location for Lakeland walkers. The car had a holiday too! Thoroughly recommend.

  • "The information booklets provided in the property are severely out of date providing incorrect contact details, WiFi information, and look to be from a previous owner/company."

Additionally the property is 100% electric meaning the heating, cooker and hob are all electrical so if a power cut occurs like it did for us you have no means of hot water, heating, or facilities to cook with. Whilst acts of nature cannot be predicted reasonable facilities could have been provided in the property such as backup method of cooking, initial supply of fuel for burner, candles, blankets, etc. We had power for the first night only and were forced to leave early due to no ability to cook anything in the property. Overall we still had an enjoyable stay it was just a shame we were forced to leave early due to a lack of provisions for potential power cuts.

  • "House was plenty warm enough, comfortable and good for 3."

Bathrooms recently redone and are very nice, upstairs bedrooms nice. Location is absolutely superb with walks from the door up and down river, and up onto the hills behind the house. A very short drive also takes you to many other fab walks or to Ambleside for a bit of shopping. Decent pub a couple of mins walk. Lounge sofas are not very comfy and a few lightbulbs need replacing. It also looks like the soil pipe from the loo next to the kitchen has a wee leak outside. If I owned the place, I'd be tempted to get an architect in to look at remodelling the middle level, opening it up a bit to create more space and light - depending on planning restrictions it could be super fab! All in all, a well located, comfy place and good value too.

  • "Property has had several updates since last year, none of which are reflected in the outdated website photos."

When staying in one property for a single week you get fresh towels and bedding, plus a clean property on arrival. Stay in that property for two weeks and you get ripped off as you pay the same rate but don't have replacement towels/bedding or the property cleaned - this is an overdue issue that needs to be addressed. You are not passing on the same costs to the property owner, therefore it's a simple action for you to provide a discount for the second week if you are not going to provide the full range of services...

  • "Hi - Lovely property in a lovely location."

Note that the property wasn't 'four in a bed' clean. Crumbs on the sofa and under the pillows. Olive (!!!) on the window ledge. Also there is NOT room for two Ford Focus size cars in the parking space. It is 3.5m deep and the car is 4.5m long. To stick out 1m onto the narrow lane would be insulting to the locals and a disaster waiting to happen. We'd go again at the price we paid - not the Covid enhanced price.
