"Great cottage, ideal for our needs and in a great location."
Would definitely recommend it and use it again. One point to note is that there is no division between the living room and the bedroom up the spiral staircase. This was not a problem for our group but I can see it being an issue for some. The positive for us, was that the single bedroom had its own external entrance which was handy for late returns from the pub without disturbing people in the upstairs bedroom. Currently the blind on the velux window in the upstairs bedroom is faulty and a temporary towel placed over the window to help block light. This should be repaired asap. It does not leave a good impression. The secure garden is great, especially if visiting with a dog. However there a several loose steps on the patio and a step up from the lower garden that need to be fixed before somebody is injured.

"We did really enjoyed our stay at Poppy Cottage but thought it was bit expensive compared to other properties we have stayed at."

"We absolutely loved our stay in this traditional, quirky cottage."
The atmosphere was so peaceful and relaxing. The roll top bath in the bedroom gave a luxurious super relaxed soak. We loved the tranquil feel whilst sitting in the garden, it was so quiet. The cottage was generally very well equipped. Things we feel could have improved our stay..... The broken slab leading to garden could lead to injury. The patio area/garden furniture needs cleaning. The windows need cleaning. The cooker/hob was frustratingly difficult to light. The frying pans need replacing. Overall would love to stay here again! It was so cosy and comfortable. We had a wonderful stay.

"Poppy Cottage is in a great location with its own parking area, and a pretty garden."
The downstairs accommodation is very dark and plainly decorated. There is a rickety spiral staircase in the centre of the living/dining room, which leads to one of the two upstairs bedrooms. This bedroom has no door, so there is no privacy if people are in the living area. The kitchen is a good size, but not as well-equipped as other cottages we have stayed in. The microwave was in a cupboard, so it was necessary lift it out and find somewhere to plug it in if you wanted to use it (it is very heavy). The dishwasher door would not close, so we couldn’t use it, and the light over the hob wasn’t working. The main areas, sink, and work surfaces were clean, but other areas felt sticky. The downstairs bedroom smelled mouldy and damp, and was cold during July. The single bed mattress needs replacing. The downstairs toilet/shower room also smelled damp. The one small window which barely opens because of overgrown shrubbery is not enough to ventilate the space. The second upstairs bedroom was comfortable and light. The stairs to the bedroom are steep and there is no handrail at the top. On three occasions, workmen turned up unannounced to maintain the garden. One time they were in the garden all day, so we could not use it. They didn’t knock the door to tell us they would be in the garden, we just saw them through the windows. We phoned Sykes and they were apologetic, but the same thing happened a few days later. We would definitely not return to Poppy Cottage.

"This is a lovely cottage in a perfect location but has not been maintained and looking tired The garden is over grown with broken paving Door bolts broken Cooker is difficult to use due to worn away settings, missing window blinds And downstairs bathroom window cannot be opened due to overgrown vegetation the list goes on ."
A little TLC needed .

"Poppy cottage is perfectly situated for walking up into the hills from the back door."
It has a beautiful garden which when the Sun shines is a lovely place to relax. However, the cottage is dark inside and poorly lit in the main sitting area. The open fire, when lit smokes badly and we gave up using it in the end. The information booklet for the cottage provided no useful information and it was a case of finding out for yourself. The kitchen whilst very nicely done out there were several things that annoyed. The knives in the block was so blunt that even butter was a challenge For them. The sharpener was next to useless and we had to go and buy a knife So we could cut safely and effectively. Markings on the oven were illegible and made using the cooker tricky. There was no way of lighting the hob rings and we had to go and buy a lighter for the purpose. The combination boiler proved unreliable and topping up system pressure was the only way to ensure it works and needs servicing. Poppy cottage has a lot of potential but his letdown by lack of information and attention to the basic needs for a comfortable holiday.

"Perfect location and wonderful to have a safe garden for the dog."
Very warm cottage with good quality kitchen equipment. slight ventilation issues with mould in downstairs shower room. We did our best but a very wet half term didn’t help with getting rid of moisture! Would definitely stay here again.
Thank you for taking the time to provide some feedback. We will ask our maintenance team to have a look at the ventilation issues you have mentioned. We are glad that you enjoyed the property and all the area had to offer. Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

"Great location for Coniston village and lovely garden Had everything we needed in the property and nice toiletries provided."
A couple of issues that definitely require attention The single bedroom smells of mildew and one of our daughters with asthma had to change rooms as it affected her breathing. Probably linked to above is the adjacent downstairs toilet/shower room which was constantly damp on the floor and toilet cistern always wet. Room smells of mildew with some black mould patches on the walls making it an unpleasant space to use especially when showering.
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to see that you enjoyed your stay, and the toiletries provided. We will ask our Maintenance Team to look at the bedrooms. Thank you- The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

"The house is comfortable, clean, very well equipped and is in a great location."
It is just a short walk to the village shops and pubs, all of which do food. The garden and lawn were quite overgrown during our stay, although this didn't spoil our enjoyment. A bbq would be a nice addition.
Thank you for your comments. The owners will get a copy of this and can review your suggestions. We are glad that you enjoyed all that the property and location have to offer. Lakelovers Owner Relations Expert Property Owner

"Great cottage, with plenty of parking."

"Stunning location a short stroll from Coniston and at the foot of the Old Man."
Good running, biking and hiking from the front door. Lovely big garden - we were there for a hot week and our boys loved water play, flopping in the shade of a big tree and eating all our meals outside. Excellently equipped kitchen. Two very precipitous staircases which are a bit challenging with little ones but that’s the only tiny downside. Would absolutely love to return.

"The property was in the perfect location, fantastic garden and perfect layout."
If this property ever comes up for sale, let us know as we would want to live there. I would like to highlight a couple of matters. Door security. The door in the master bedroom out to the garden needs securing. The current bolt that secures the stable door style top to the bottom of the door is flimsy and with a light yank would open easily from the outside. Likewise with the downstairs bedroom and entrance porch - a little realignment of the current locks would improve security. The cleanliness of the house was mainly brilliant but cobwebs in the eaves, light fittings and most noticeably the kitchen light needed attention. Dust on the spiral staircase could have been easily addressed too. Minor matter to address in what was an amazing house and an amazing stay.

"Lovely location and quirky cottage."
Everything there required including a well stocked kitchen however I would say the attic bedroom (accessed via spiral stairs) requires an upgraded mattress, it was extremely uncomfortable and hard, possibly suitable for one night but certainly not a week. However, the main bedroom mattress was lovely, which we were able to use once our family members left following their 3 night stay, otherwise it would have spoiled the holiday.

Excellent for all amenities. Would certainly recommend to anyone.

"The Cottage was a haven, so quiet and peaceful."
It was cleaned to a very high standard. Close to Coniston and all the amenities. Highly recommended for walks straight from the door. Coppermine Valley spectacular, everybody in the village extremely friendly.

"Lovely cottage in an excellent location."

"Despite everywhere being extremely busy the cottage was an oasis of calm."
So easy to walk into Conniston or up to the hills yet at the end of a quiet private drive….perfect.

"We holiday in the Lake District usually once a year and Poppy Cottage was the best cottage we have stayed in."
It was perfect, we would definitely return. Loved the bedroom up the spiral staircase, oh & the bath!! Lovely White Company smellies. Thank you.

"Perfect week in a cozy cottage."
You don't mind the rain so much when you can come home to fire. Great walks up the Old Man and Coppermines. Brisk walk up to the reservoir from the cottage to clear out any cobwebs.

"The position was fantastic."
Near enough Coniston but also far enough away. Also, we didn't need to use the car once being able to walk straight from the property. The cottage itself was lovely and well appointed. Ideal for two couples having two double bedrooms with their our great facilities.
