  • "Overall a good stay as the location and views can’t be faulted."

With a little bit of TLC and better cleaning this property could be amazing. There is a lot of maintenance work which needs to be completed, which to be fair we were warned about and were told by Sykes we would get a £30 refund for (which we have yet to see). However aside from the paintwork and maintenance issues such as the downstairs shower attachment rusted and broken off, the level of cleanliness wasn’t really up to scratch. For example hairs and crumbs under sofa cushions, hairs in bedroom chest of drawers and a sticky hairdryer. There was also some condensation mould on the wall in the main bathroom which could easily have been wiped away before we arrived. All of which could be easily fixed with a good cleaning service. As mentioned the location and views were great- walks straight from the door, and the welcome pack was really appreciated. My last gripe though, which I thought was pretty low was that most of the hand soaps and washing up liquid had been topped up with water so we were essentially washing with frothy water. Not great

  • "This is our fourth stay at Juniper Cottage, as a family we absolutely love the cottage and the surrounding area."

Upon arrival this time we were not met with the usual high standards of cleanliness or high quality finishings and decor within the property. It is quite evident the cottage is undergoing some upgrades, however this was not relayed to us, nor reflected in the price. There is black mould on the ceilings in the bedrooms and the blinds in the shower room, stains on the dining room cushions and sofa and half done paint jobs in around the property. We are usually met with a spotless property that you feel proud to be staying in, however this time there was rubbish discarded in cupboards and drawers, thick dust and uncleaned floors. Despite trying to get in touch with lakelovers throughout our stay, we have had no reply.

Everything included for what you need for a break away could do with a lick of paint here and there and could do with a good dust to remove cobwebs and some cleaning under the large sofas , apart from that a lovely place

  • "It’s our 4th visit to Juniper Cottage start with the bad, no hand soap in any bathrooms upon arrival, not enough hand towels to serve the bathrooms, en-suite doesn’t drain water so you can’t use this shower, bins weren’t collected and 3/4 full upon arrival, only 4 bowls and 2 wine glasses, Lakelovers never answer the phone they fob you off with digital means of conversation which takes them hours to respond."

Good points, stunning location, very homely feel, easy access to the lakes, super quiet and relaxing, overall a good break away it’s just a shame that over the years previous guests have abused the property to make it quiet run down!

  • "What a beautiful, perfect holiday home."

Grounds well maintained, house nice and clean for arrival, and a nice welcome gift of bread, butter, milk and a cake. Kitchen well stocked, and beautiful views from all windows. Beds were very comfortable, showers were ok, nice hot water but not overly powerful. Some really nice furniture and decorations. Very clear instructions on how things work. Lots of lovely little extras such as a printer, DAB radios, books and the most wonderful washer/dryer. We had an issue with the waste collection whilst there, but the very friendly owner responded to us very promptly and took action to resolve. We had a wonderful relaxing holiday here, and would highly recommend.

  • "Lovely comfortable cottage in an amazing location."

I loved cooking in the kitchen which had such brilliant views. Just a few suggestions on items to include in the kitchen - egg cups, rolling pin and a non stick frying pan. The rubbish in the wheelie bin hadn’t been emptied and we couldn’t find where this was as it had been locked away in the garage which we had no access to. However, after messaging the housekeeper Claire, she came back really promptly to say leave our rubbish in the garage and gave us the key code.

Fully equipped with many lovely personal touches, to cover every need. Stunning location, secluded and quiet, the most amazing sunsets from the side patio area. Certainly a place to put you back in nature, casting off any pent up tension and just relax and enjoy the true Lake District scenery and wildlife around you.

Not enough was made about the views, they're stunning. The house was spotless when we arrived, I really cant fault it. If I was nit picking, the heating and hot water were probably a few deg cooler than I would have liked but it wouldn't stop me re-booking.

  • "Juniper cottage is lovely, the location is great and the views from the cottage are outstanding, we loved the peacefulness and the garden is fabulous."

We would definitely stay again & recommend to others. Bed comfy and kitchen great with loads of utensils etc. dishwasher and drier and tumble are a huge bonus. The wife and smart tv are excellent. The wildlife you see is a fantastic bonus. Superb walks on your doorstep. I like to write a very honest review so I have listed the tiny negatives below. The windows are very old and some of the roller blinds were broken. The cottage is accessed via a very narrow lane with hardly any passing points (this did not effect us but just to make people aware) Sat nav took us to the wrong place and nobody including Sykes could help, we basically found the cottage ourself which was only 5 mins away from where the sat nav had taken us so nothing major. Overall view is Juniper cottage is a great place to stay & we had a lovely week, we would return.

Thank you for your comments. We are pleased to see that you had an enjoyable stay, and the views! We take your comments on board. We hope to welcome you again. The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

The lviving room was spacious with plenty of sofa space and a lovely view through the many windows. Having a gas BBQ was very useful and easy to use. The location was also perfect, close to Lake Windemere and the town of Bowness, but at the same time remote enough to see and hear almost nobody. Higly reccomend Juniper Cottage and we will almost certainly be back.

  • "The heating thermostats need addressing."

In the main bedroom even when on the ice setting they blast out. We had a baby with us who needed heating higher in his room but if we turned the heating up to accommodate him then our room was boiling. It wasn’t great.! So if those 2 thermostats are addressed then that should resolve it. The only other thing is the hot water. It was very limited and seemed to go from hot to warm after the first person had a shower. Other than that I would highly recommend the property and we enjoyed the area and facilities it sits in. I would have given 5 stars had it not been for the heating/water issue.

  • "Juniper is in a fantastic location which we really enjoyed being in."

Lovely garden to sit in with great views and lots of great walks from the doorstep. Inside was acceptable in the main and many small details were addressed like spare bulbs, batteries etc. We only realised on the Wednesday that there was no smoke alarm upstairs and no carbon monoxide alarm in the house which is disgusting as they are a legal requirement and we unwittingly spent 4 nights without. We reported this and it was rectified by Lakelovers very quickly which was good. We asked why this legal requirement was not checked properly and didn't get a satisfactory reply. All we got was a comment from maintenance department saying they were 'surprised we didn't spot it sooner'. Well, I obviously did a better job spotting it than whoever is responsible for safety over the years. Many of the double glazed units were misted making the view out misty and there was only one small meat roasting tray for the oven and no other oven trays or tins for the lovely large oven. We had to buy some ourselves. Some previous guests had also commented on these points in the visitor book along with a comment that the house was a bit 'tired', and we would have to agree. On stripping the beds to leave we found some badly stained pillow protectors and a stained mattress, something also commented on in previous feedback. We did have a nice week at Juniper despite what I have written but the unfortunate but avoidable issues are present and disappointing to find and I regret having to make my comments but it is best to speak as you find. It is a place we would have loved to stay at again but now won't be doing so.

I went here with my four children age range of 9 - 22 and they all had a great time - no neighbours close by so could be as noisy as they liked without disturbing anyone. You can walk to bowness and windermere across the footpaths in about 45 mins or less, the property also offered plenty of space whilst the gardens were big enough for playing outdoor games. We will definitely come back to Juniper cottage we all absolutely loved it..........

Without doubt 5 stars. Near enough to be within easy reach of local services but far enough away to feel like you are 'away from it all'. Facilities were first class and the cottage was very well equipped. Very comfortable beds. Immaculately prepared.

Heavenly home-from-home in the country!

A property of real character in an unmatchable location, Juniper Cottage preserves its wonderful 1920's style whilst cocooning visitors in contemporary comfort.

With generous garden grounds, great walks from your door, fabulous fell views, and plenty of rural restfulness, this is a great choice for a family or group of friends to come and experience the best the Lakes has to offer. “A stunning rural location...

spacious maintained grounds and gardens for guests to enjoy and relax" (Visit England) The gorgeous woodland garden that impressed Visit England is extensive and well laid out, providing excellent outdoor space, and the terrace has garden furniture along with a barbecue for those lazy summer afternoons.

Beyond almost an acre of lawns and wild flowers, you can stroll straight out of the garden gates onto the “Great Field”, and onto a section of the Dales Way.

This is not the only fine walk available from your doorstep, and a network of enticing footpaths weave all around you in this fabulous section of Lake District countryside.

Orrest Head is an excellent peak to summit close to Windermere village, as does Brant Fell, and the magnificent Central Fells lie just to your north. Juniper Cottage provides a useful ground-floor wet-room for drying that walking clobber after a muddy trek over the Lakeland fells.

Once you're settled back inside, the tastefully upgraded décor and furnishings ensure a thoroughly rejuvenating experience.

Sit back on sumptuous sofas and watch films together on the large-screen TV, or switch off and watch the wildlife, including deer, that frequent the gardens.

Look out from the many picture windows across the meadows and woodlands to the imperious mountain tops beyond, and you'll surely be glad you chose this rather special holiday home!

The owners thoughtfully supply some local produce to get you started on your holiday, and with so many great country inns scattered in the hill and pasture lands around you, and all the eateries of Bowness and Windermere just a stone's throw away, you'll always have plenty in the way of food and drink options.

Nothing beats making your own meals in the wonderful wood-surfaced country kitchen at Juniper, though, and eating together in the elegant dining-room, or better still in the evening sunshine on the stunning terrace, with its unrivaled views.

Juniper Cottage is a residence thoroughly comfortable in its own serene space, and we're sure you will be, too, when you stay with us here!
