  • "Some items from either a previous stay or one of the cleaners etc were left in the house on our arrival."

The bay window area wall gets wet, soaking the window seat cushion on days when it rains a lot. But generally comfortable and homey. Would not recommend for young children as there were several pieces of furniture and nicknacks that we had to move to make the lounge and kitchen safe.

Very comfortable and well equipped, and in a perfect central location for exploring the Lake District. Plenty of space for parking too which makes life easy.

  • "We loved the cottage and it was so well equipped."

Strange happening at 11.33pm loud knocking on the door when I went man stood there didn't open the door luckily it was the glass door he said he had the wrong house, I found it a bit unsettling. I'm sure it was innocent but thought the owners should be aware of this.

  • "Beautifully renovated cottage and carbon neutral."

Very comfortable (only suggestion is a new mattress in upstairs double room). Extremely well-equipped kitchen. Great location for easy walks from the door to Elterwater (for the pub and onward walks) and Chester’s Bakery (great breakfasts and lunches). We also walked to Grasmere and other classic Lakes walks.

  • "Cottage found to be as described & met all expectations & some."

The facilities provided are extensive & found the central heating to be more than sufficient to warm up the cottage. A couple of things re technology, the post code only takes you to the car park before the cottage & thankfully the instructions in the email solved the problem, mobile reception is non existent & in an emergency could create a problem but not sure if that’s something that could be overcome. In the information folder it mentions a landline phone that could receive incoming calls but no sign of it & perhaps that also needs to be updated. The minor issues did not detract from our overall experience as we thoroughly enjoyed our time & would have no hesitation in recommending Silverthwaite cottage

  • "Tumble drier function on washer drier not working, running through the cycle but no heat."

Clothes rack not big enough to fit kids clothes on nevermind adult when trying to dry inside. Bedrooms upstairs very dusty. Mattress protectors on 2 of the single beds were filthy and needed washing. Very old duvets on single beds. Chest of drawers in main bedroom falling apart, one drawer had separated from the side and another had from the bottom, couldn't use it. Wardrobe very dusty inside with no good clothes hangers. No space in kitchen cupboards to put away food. All cupboards full with too much unnecessary kitchen equipment that never gets used. One toliet had been used and rim was dirty and both toliet brushes were dirty and disgusting when we arrived. No games provided or dvd player, no info folder for the local area - this made our stay very hard as we had no wifi for the whole week. We won't stay again and won't be recommending the property. I will think twice about booking through any of the lakelovers company's as we spent over 2 hours on the phone trying to sort things out and valuable holiday time was lost doing this - none of the problems were sorted.

Skelwith force is virtually on the doorstep and the nearby pub claims to have the best steak and ale pie in the lakes, and so far we have to agree!

About the location

ELTERWATER

Great Langdale 2.9 miles; Ambleside 4.2 miles; Grasmere 8.2 miles.

Elterwater is a true escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A tranquil hamlet with its tiny ‘swan lake’, Elter Water, sitting at the gateway of the striking Langdale valley. The soft valley landscape is in sharp contrast to the steep jagged Langdale Pikes. Elterwater sits between Ambleside and Great Landgale, where at the top of the valley the infamous Wrynose Path is the only way out of the u-shaped valley, giving it a superb sense of seclusion. The larger towns of Grasmere and Ambleside are a short drive away providing a host of options for shopping and eating out.
