  • "We loved the whole experience of out stay."

As other visitors have mentioned, it has much to recommend in addition the privacy was great, doors opening onto a beautiful sunny balcony to watch the birds on the feeders, peace and quiet in the woodland. I would mention that Skiptory Howe where the property is, is a steepish incline from amenities should you have walking disabilities.

  • "The lodge was lovely , very well equipped and homely."

It was let down by the site . The swimming pool closed at 3.45 and there were no locker keys to put your valuables. The cost to use it was £36 not £15 as billed in the lodge details. The shop was very basic for a site this size. Would recommend the lodge but advise people that the facilities on site need upgrading and maintaining. The staff seemed overwhelmed by their task but were friendly and helpful.

Thank you for your review and for and for your complimentary comments about our lodge. .We were, of course, sorry to read your criticism of the site. The charges for access to the pool were raised at the opening of the season without consultation with lodge owners, so the increase came as a surprise to us too. In view of this increase we will amend our entry on the Sykes webpage. The site shop is limited by it's size and carries only the essentials, although this season we were surprised to learn that they now stock fresh fruit and vegetables for the first time. Thank you again for your comments which, rest assured, we will pass on to Parkdean Resorts, We hope that you will stay with us again in the future. Rod and Jan. Property Owner

It was much posher than we expected, and the location is fantastic. The accommodation was cosy and compact. The bunk room is perfect for small children. A well equipped kitchen and parking for 3 cars. Out teenagers enjoyed our week of activities including boating on Windemere, hill walking at Helvellyn and The Old Man of Coniston, Steam Railways and the infamous Derwent Pencil Museum!

The property was clean and tidy. Issue with the DVD player was sorted. There was, however, no sky or sports channels etc as the internet was not connected so could not be watched. The beds were comfy and clean as was the bathroom. More than enough space for the three of us and two dogs. The sofas were not too comfy to sit on for extended periods of time, maybe could do with an update but apart from that had a nice stay and in a good position to travel around all the walks and villages/towns.

Hi, Nicola, thanks for your kind comments and glad you and your family sorted out the dvd player situation. Whitecross Bay has recently installed new WiFi across the Park and has asked owners to send them MAC serial numbers from Smart tv's to enable them to connect. We sent our serial number a few days ago, but as yet, we've not been connected! Property Owner

But the lodge absolutely not clean. I moved a coffeetable to get my 88 year old mum easier on the sofa and it was clearly not cleaned underneath. Then there was still ketchup on the plastic tablecloth and behind the toaster all breadcrums. Not clean at all. The matrass in the twin bedded room is terrible. You can feel all the suspensions. And the ceiling of the bath is very dirty. Not been cleaned for a long while. At the Windows there are dead inserts and dust as well. I really think we are overpaying now. Before I thought it was a fair price I am curious of how you will handle this as I had to clean a lot myself. I do not mind cleaning but not on my holiday

Dear Petra, We were sorry to hear that our lodge has failed to meet your expectations and were disappointed that you hadn't contacted us on arrival, when we could have asked our cleaners to re-attend site to put things right. We have reported your comments to our cleaning company for their attention. With regard to the beds; as my wife explained , another guest had commented on the beds some three week earlier and we immediately ordered replacements mattresses which are due to arrive on Tuesday 13 September. I realise that this is small comfort to you, but this is the earliest that we could arrange delivery. Fortunately the majority of our guests leave favourable comments and our reviews as you will see on the Sykes website are usually positive. We take all comments seriously and on the rare occasion where there is a problem we aim to deal with it promptly. Rod and Jan. Property Owner

Great, modern bath room with good working shower and bath which was a must for us. Kitchen had everything we needed and more. The veranda was the perfect position for sunbathing and watching the setting sun - magical, colourful dusk skies. We even saw a variety of birds using the feeder including a pair of woodpeckers, robin's and blue tits (or similar?) and others. The place was filthy. And I mean really dirty. I left feedback for the owners in the visitors book and have not been contacted by the owners which is just terrible. I have taken pictures and intend on sharing them on here if it’s possible and with the owners. Food still left on crockery, cutlery, and other kitchen equipment. Chocolate wrappers left down the side of beds, children’s toys left, dog food on the floor, filthy dog feeding station, filthy dustpan and brush, dog hairs all over the standing lamp base. My children dropped something g behind the sofa and moved the sofa to retrieve it only to find, dog poo bags (empty thank goodness) underneath, dried food into the floor, dog hair all over and thick dust everywhere including the wood surrounding the bed headboards. The bathroom was dirty, black gunge around the shower screen where it meets the bath, dirt around the toilet (upon cleaning my cloths came up yellow

Feedback from our guests is invariably positive so we were shocked and disappointed to read the comments lodged by Mr And Mrs Wallis, and astonished that at no time over the two weeks of their stay did they contact us to alert us to the problems that they encountered. They must have read the comments from previous guests in the guest book and realised that what they encountered was not how our lodge is normally presented. Had they contacted us on the day of arrival we would have immediately driven up and, in conjunction with our cleaning company, addressed all the issues and done a deep clean. Our contact details are posted at the entrance to the lodge and internally so contact would have been easy. Several Maintenance issues were raised: Black gunge on the shower door seal: The seal was replaced in March and on checking was found to be clean. Bath plug not sealing properly: The nylon seal had become detached. I removed the plug and reattached the seal. The gas hob igniter temperamental: The switch was removed and the contacts cleaned. All of the above took minutes to rectify and could have been resolved on day one, had we known. We pay our cleaning company handsomely for their services and expect better from them. We have raised the issues with them in the strongest possible terms. Property Owner

The lodge was ideally located to explore the lakes and the facilities on site were excellent. The lodge did provide everything to make our stay comfortable. However, we felt let down on the cleanliness in the lodge. oven trays were dirty and greasy as if they had been put back after being used without being washed. Under the sofa's were wrappers, straws cob webs and lots of dust. Down the sides of the single beds were lots of cob webs one containing a dead spider. We were very lucky with the weather during our stay, sitting outside was a little spoilt by the cobwebs hanging from the roof. It was pleasant watching a variety of birds feeding from the bird feeder on the decking. The feeder did appear to be in the wrong place, being in the middle left the area covered in bird poo. The Lodge was comfortable, homely, well equipped and well looked after by the owners. With White Cross Bay, location in the Park itself is crucial and Striding Edge is very well located, being high up with the verandah facing away from the road, towards the tops of the trees. We took 2 dogs and it was perfect for them, with an enclosed verandah and woods where we could walk them just across from the lodge. There’s a bird feeder on the verandah that attracts a wide variety of small birds. We filled it up and found it very relaxing just sitting watching the birds either from the verandah or through the lodge windows from the sitting room area.
