Beds were very comfortable as were the settee's. One of the best cottages that I have stayed in. Thank you for making this holiday a most enjoyable week. Regards Ann

Thanks for the feedback. We have had some gardener issues this year, but a major tidy up is now booked for early September. Apologies if this in any way distracted from your holiday. Graham Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage in a quiet country lane."

The pub is barely 10 mins walk and does excellent food. Kendal, windamere etc only 10-15mins drive away. Facilities in the cottage were great, rooms v comfy and everywhere spotless. Would definitely stay again. (Possibly leave a few more essentials in a basket next time? Coffee etc, just a suggestion as no shop in walking distance). Thanks again.

The cupboards were full of kitchen utensils which would not usually be used on a short stay holiday. Otherwise it was a lovely holiday.

Thank you for this feedback. As I am sure you can imagine, what suits one guest may not suit the other, and we do have many guests who prefer to stay in and cook. The owner will see this and can therefore see if there is a way to reorganise the cupboards. We are glad that you enjoyed your holiday. Lakelovers Owner Experience Property Owner

  • "The cottage was lovely and in a very quiet peaceful location which was what we wanted."

Nevertheless, the likes of Bowness, Windermere and Ambleside all within easy reach. My wife was most appreciative of the large walk in wardrobe which she made a great effort to fill with even more walking attire from the local retailers! All in all a restful few days and we will no doubt return in due course. Many thanks David and Alison

  • "We arrived to a very clean cottage together with the lovely touch of a decorated Christmas Tree in the lounge."

The cottage was very comfortable and in a great location. It was warm and cosy and we enjoyed spending new year with our friends in the Old Chapel. The only negative but nothing that would put us off returning would be to think about replacing the upstairs electric shower with a power shower as the pressure was very low. We would definitely not hesitate to book again.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at The Old Chapel."

Lots of interesting places to visit in the area. We did a couple of local walks from the cottage trying to avoid the main road. Second Bedroom en-suite very cramped and the sink plug did not work so sink would not hold water. Great idea having a website with all the instruction manuals for the appliances however I think other information could be added including local information like nearest shops, doctors, hospital, takeaways, places to visit as we did not find this information in the cottage, most owners seem to provide this. The Sun Inn pub is within easy walking distance, they were friendly and we enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch. We only found out on the last day that the TV had a Amazon Video account setup, this would have been useful to have known at the beginning of our stay Again something that could easily be added to the https://www.lakeschapel.co.uk/ website. Overall we were impressed with the cottage and the area. We would like to return again sometime.

Radiator in upstairs bedroom not working looked to have been turned off Fridge had a broken shelf that looked to have been fixed badly We love the house and have been back 6 times now but the furniture is looking rather weary Cleanliness is always an issue but will return as we like the place and the local pub Loved the added Netflix and Amazon Chanel this year

Mary, thanks for your feedback and we really appreciate your regular visits. We will have the radiator checked out as it certainly has not been intentionally turned off. When things go wrong we do have to rely on guests reporting the problems, but Lakelovers are always there to deal with any issues when they are reported. We will also investigate the fridge shelf problem. We are disappointed with your feedback on the cleaning as this is something we treat very seriously and has been an ongoing challenge for us. We will continue to strive to provide the levels we know our guests deserve. We are in the process of refreshing the property. In addition to the new double glazed windows this year, we will have a new suite and carpet for the summer season. We hope to see you back at the Old Chapel very soon. • "Lovely stay at the Old Chapel."

Very clean, well equipped and comfortable, the lounge is especially cosy. The off road parking on the large driveway was very convenient. Good communication regarding check in and out. Have booked through Lakelovers many times previously and always found them to be helpful, clear and professional, with quality properties. The only gripe was the cutlery drawer will not open without first opening the cabinet door to the washing machine next to it, as the cabinet sticks out too far so the drawer bangs into it. So everytime you need cutlery you have to first open the washing machine cabinet door. Would be helpful to get this fixed or the door removed. But a minor detail on an otherwise lovely stay!

  • "Despite extra time being allowed for apparent “deep cleaning”, the kitchen cupboards were dirty with food stains."

The whole house is damp so expect damp clothes every morning and towels that don’t dry. The beds were rock hard with heavy winter duvets in the height of summer. The house is in desperate need of some dehumidifiers at least…everything smells fusty and old and it gets in your clothes. Otherwise the location was good for Windermere and Kendal but too remote to walk anywhere of interest in the evenings and nothing to do in the house itself.

Very well equipped, large fridge, half freezer, dishwasher and washer-drier with plenty of kitchen and dining ware that was notably of higher quality and condition than any other holiday let we’ve stayed in. And the food at the local pub a five-minute walk away is terrific. The only letdown was the level of cleaning which could have been better, particularly given the current situation.

  • "The chapel was lovely, really nice area for exploring the lake district!"

The set back for us was the kitchen/dining area. In the description before you book, it comes across like the wood burning fire and the ability to have a sit down dinner with the comfort of a warm glow in the background is something promised. Unfortunately there was 0 wood there, it later came to my attention that you have to provide your own wood. This wasn't stated in any information given, also the lighting in that room is an awful clinical bright white, giving it no ambience. We ended up eating most our meals upstairs, which I have to say is a lovely room with a great homely feel and fantastic view. For 3.5 days we were only given less than 2 toilet rolls which obviously didn't last which was also annoying. Overall we had a wonderful time in the lakes but felt we were very overcharged for what was given. Than you

The beds were so very comfy, better than mine at home! Loved having the log burner for a cosy glow whilst eating in the kitchen/diner. Cottage very well placed for sightseeing on either side of the Lake.

The property

The Old Chapel, as the name suggests, has an ecclesiastic history, this is reflected in the seamless blend of olde worlde charm and contemporary chic.

The property sits in an adorable country setting with Bowness and the shores of Lake Windermere just a 10 minute drive away and there’s an excellent country pub within easy walking distance - so you get seclusion without compromising on access to amenities. Great for couples or families, the chapel sleeps four guests over two delightful bedrooms, one of which features a Victorian corner bath - the bedrooms are on separate floors for added privacy.

In addition, there’s a lovely first floor lounge giving elevated views of the surrounding countryside.

The picture is completed by a fabulous kitchen / dining room with a wood burning stove and French doors that lead out to a ‘secret’ garden with a furnished patio.

The Old Chapel is the perfect place from which to fall in love with country living.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
