• "We loved Brighouse and thought the position, seclusion and location were simply unbeatable, the garden perfect for dogs and the house confortable and suited us perfectly."

  It's wonderful to be able to walk from the door, and despite the fact that we had very damp weather all week, it was still a glorious break in a very special cottage. There was an issue with the hot water and towel rail but the owners are aware of this. I would have given 5 stars if we'd been able to have hot baths and dry towels!

• "Brigg House was a delight to stay in, we had two weeks of tranquility away from the ever increasing crowds of the Lake District."

  Surrounded by meadow with sheep and cows, beautiful views of the fells plus the sound of the nearby river and swallows chatting. Three pretty bedrooms upstairs with an amazing lounge and smart TV downstairs for the chilly evenings. Our dogs also enjoyed their stay with lots of room to run around outside, like us we didn’t want to leave. Looking forward to returning.

• "Good points - lovely isolated area with nice views."

  Big lounge area with comfortable L shaped sofa. Not so good - grass not cut & seemed to have not been for a while. Musty smell in kitchen cupboards. Bathroom looking a bit tired & unloved including bare lightbulb. Would also have been nice to been warned about the 24hr running generator at front of property which somewhat spoilt the quiet setting! Sadly felt a bit overpriced for what we had

• "We enjoyed a lovely and relaxing weekend at Brigg House in the Lake District."

  The house is in a beautiful location, just of the back of a farm. The house itself is well equipped, we found that we had everything we needed. The kitchen and living room are extremely spacious, we loved the sofa!! Having a smart TV with access to Netflix, Prime etc was great. The log burner kept us warm too. All the bedrooms were exactly as we were expecting and we all had great nights sleep. Overall, it was an amazing weekend spent with friends in a beautiful house. We would definitely come back again!

• "Stunning location with wonderful views."

  The cottage was well equipped, warm and comfortable. Lots to do with walks on the doorstep. Jess was very helpful and provided extra logs for a small charge. Really enjoyed our week and would thoroughly recommend it.

• "We had a lovely week, the cottage was very clean and comfortable and a great place to recharge your batteries."

  The scenery is just spectacular, ideal if you want to get away for it all, and the last evening was so clear we spent it watching shooting stars and listening to the sheep chatting to each other on the fell, it couldn’t get much better than that. The owners are lovely and very helpful if you need anything. Brigg House is just a perfect place.

  For people who have dogs it’s a great place to stay, large enclosed garden and so many walks right on the doorstep. The house is comfortable and well furnished and surprisingly warm for our trip in November, we will definitely be booking again for next year

• "The accommodation was fine and comfortable."

  A great place for a country break in the ‘Fells’. As a note: Some dish cloths and pan scorers might be provided. The description said bring you own T towel, but not the other items. For the price paid we have had better provision of such sundry items in other accommodation. But overal great stay.

  Cottage was perfect really enjoyed my stay soo peaceful, dishwasher was a godsend, area completely fenced off so my dog couldn't escape which I was concerned about as he loves to chase sheep, some really good walks for my dog with plenty of sticks to keep him entertained, firestick with everything on was a welcomed surprise bed's were lovely & comfortable sofas too, place was immaculate would recommend anyone looking for a place away from people to stay here

• "Brigg House is an absolutely fabulous place to stay, it is perfectly placed to explore the surrounding lakes while having the benefit of being off the beaten track."

  It is surrounded by beautiful countryside with walks from the house. As it was very hot when we were there, we were able to cool off in the beck behind the property, Our dog enjoyed the safe garden, Although there is a footpath through, but only one couple passed by it in the week! The house itself is full of character and well equipped. If you want a truly relaxing holiday, completely away from it all, then this is the place. Broughton in Furness is a really freindly town where you should be able to buy everything you need from the local shop and really good butchers. Jess was available and ready to help should the need have arisen. Thank you Jess, Rob and Brigg House 10 out of 10

• "What a super find !"

  Such a beautiful location, lovely cottage, ideal for a weekend retreat into the "wilderness". Ideal for Lake district especially as a base for walking Scafell Pike (35 mins drive). Excellent hosts, great communication and service. Well equipped cottage.

• "Set in an amazingly beautiful and tranquil location this is definitely the place to get away from it all."

  The house is spacious, spotlessly clean, comfortable, well equipped and surprisingly cosy considering how cold the weather was during our stay. Jess was very helpful and answered my questions (by text) quickly. Out of the fifteen or so holiday cottages I've stayed in this is the only one I've booked as many as four times. Over the years things have been improved- the WiFi was very welcome, Netflix and other options were an unexpected bonus. Appreciate the welcome pack also. We didn't have any issues with the water pressure for the shower like we had in the past, though maybe that was due to it being just the two of us this time, rather than four or six of us previously. Looking forward to coming back again, this is a really special place.

• "Idyllic cottage in field in beautiful quiet part of lake district."

  Cottage cosy and warm with woodburning stove, comfy sofas. Plenty to do on your doorstep if you like the great outdoors. We climbed Green Crag, Hardknott, walked round Devoke Water and biked Wrynose and HardKnott passes and the beautiful Duddon Valley. Tesco delivery van found us easily which was useful for bringing all provisions. Owners helpful, living and working on their sheep farm next door.

• "We really enjoyed our stay at Brigg House."

  Loved the escape from other people, even during half term. No issues at all with the property, but some instructions about recycling etc would have been welcome. Some other visitors seem to have mentioned the track, we got a rear wheel drive electric car up in in wet weather in February. If you’re reading this and wonder whether you’re car will make it… you’ll be fine! We’ll happily be back to this cottage next time we’re wanting to visit the western area of the Lakes.

• "This was our third visit to Brighouse, the location is amazing, in the beautiful Duddon Valley surrounded by wonderful fells."

  It is on a sheep farm, positioned further up the track, through numerous gates which children will love to open and close and over a bridge crossing Crosby Gill. Totally on its own so perfect if you like tranquil surroundings to get away from it all. The cottage is a picturesque, whitewashed, old farmhouse which has been updated to provide very comfortable accommodation and has all the facilities you need including a dishwasher, microwave, Wi-Fi and fire stick, a very comfortable sofa for relaxing, a pretty dining room and lovely wood burner set into the old kitchen range. The owners have worked very hard to decorate to give it a traditional Lakeland feel whilst furnishing the cottage to provide modern comforts that still retains its character. The cottage is always very clean, and the treats left by the owners are much appreciated. We have found the communication with the owners is excellent and they are always very helpful and approachable. There is a good size garden area surrounding the cottage for dogs to run free and children to explore and there are walks from door. If you are into stargazing then this is the place for you, with the dark skies it’s amazing to see the constellations and planets from just outside the door! There are also birds that come to feed just outside the kitchen window and we noticed lots of bulbs coming up in the garden so it’s going to be an array of colour soon. We always find it hard to leave as it’s so peaceful and beautiful but this time our dog decided she wasn’t going to budge, preferring to stay put in the kitchen! She loves it there too and they nearly gained another farm dog! So, if you want somewhere quiet to watch the birds, view the stars, read, play board games or just explore the wonderful fells then this is the place for you, it’s truly idyllic.

• "Overall we had a lovely break over the Christmas period even though it started with a power cut affecting the whole area."

  Due to the electricity supply people bing unaware that the cottage would be occupied from our arrival night they had not connected the generator. We eventually got connected after a couple of hours and my husband locating the workmen to let them know out situation. We believe that some confusion had arisen even though they had been advised of our arrival. There were some things in the cottage that required attention, a heater hanging off the wall in a bedroom. One of the control knobs on the cooker was missing and most inconveniently the hot water tap in the bathroom sink didn't work. We advised the owner who said that various things had been damaged by the previous occupants and they hadn't had a chance to fix them. The owner supplied an extra heater for the kitchen as it seemed very hard to get the cottage warm at the outset but unfortunately the tap was not fixed. We used a jug to fill the sink from the hot bath tap. The kitchen and bathroom (especially!) require some attention but the other areas are comfortable and the problems didn't detract from us enjoying our Christmas holiday. The cottage is in an absolutely wonderful position, the views are magnificent to wake up to. The sheep wander into the surrounding garden area (which means, of course, it is not secure to let dogs off their leads) and the birds come to feed outside the kitchen window. The owners had left us some treats and a lovely bottle of Cava. The Christmas tree and other decorations were up on arrival which was wonderful and made the cottage very homely. The woodburner and lounge area are perfect for a seasonal stay along with a separate dining room. We would return to cottage, mainly because of it's situation, but it really needs some maintenance and the bathroom upgraded for the cost of a stay there.

  the cottage itself was well equipped and very clean and cosy, with plenty of heating and the wood burner was great, The only only additions which would be useful would be an outside tap for muddy boots and dogs! It was truly a get away from it all break in a perfect location and cottage, We had great communication with Jess and enjoyed watching her partner round up the sheep !We would love to book again.

• "Fantastic few nights at Brigg house."

  Extremely private. Felt at home straight away (including the dog). Only down points were we couldn’t use the towel rail because once we turned it on the pipes were shaking and was making a loud noise but we weren’t bothered about it. Would definitely come back

• "Perfect get away from it all location."

  Stunning scenery and so peaceful. The cottage was beautifully clean and the kitchen had everything we needed. Tea, milk, toilet roll, dishwasher tablets, hand-wash etc were all very much appreciated. Super squishy, large sofa and acceptable WiFi for the teenagers. Great for access to Coniston, Wastwater and Windermere. Fab steamside locations and the best millionaire shortcake within a mile or so of the cottage! Perfect for star/planet spotting as there is no light pollution. Thoughtful tray of goodies left for us and the dog. The owner was very quick to respond when messaged. If im being picky the hot water pressure wasn't good for showers and no electric toothbrush charge point so we had to buy manuals after a few days.

  Dog owners should note that the property is in the boundaries of a working sheep farm and vehicle access passes through a part of the farm where the sheep roam. The cottage was clean and very comfortable and our group of 6 adults had a lovely stay.at the property. The owners are very helpful and responsive and we would certainly come back and stay again.

• "We had a wonderful stay at Brigg House."

  We were the first guests of the season and it was clear the new owners had spent a lot of time preparing for holiday letting. It is an idyllic location within a working farm with sheep around which was great to see. We loved watching the hay being cut by the farmers. Husband wanted to get stuck in and help them with moving the hay bales around! It’s a very peaceful location and just what we needed. The nearby stream was lovely. A public right of way goes through the edge of the garden and the gate though only one group of walkers passed by whilst we were in the cottage. There is a large garden but there are a couple of places which a determined dog could definitely get over the stone wall. We were on dog watch all the time the dogs were outside. The wall could do with a bit of reinforcement to be sure dogs can’t escape, or fence the front garden separately to make that completely dog proof. The hot water pressure in the bathroom isn’t great. The electric shower worked ok so wasn’t too much of an issue. and the. There was something wrong with the hot tap in the bathroom sink with just a trickle of water coming out. Seemed like the tap needed to be refitted. Also the lack of a washing machine was a downside. We were fortunate to have dry weather but a week of rain would generate a lot of dog towels and wet outdoor gear meaning we’d have to ensure we took enough towels and clothes with us if unable to do laundry during our stay. Overall we loved it. The house is very comfortable - lovely sofas and wood burner. We’ve already booked for summer 2023!
