  • "A lovely place to stay, very well kept and Ruth was very accommodating."

I didn’t read the whole listing properly and was taken aback a bit when I found out there was an extra charge if you want to use the hot tub. Personally I think that should be included in the total price. The surrounding field is perfect to let the dog roam on its own as it’s fenced. There’s plenty walks to go on if you wish. If you want to get a meal at the local pub then book it well in advance as it’s the only one within walking distance. Ruth provided a pint of milk and a bottle of wine on arrival as well as tea & coffee, biscuits. And some doggy treats. A fully stocked kitchen with all working appliances and pots and pans, glassware you name it, Even a dishwasher with tabs. Board games, playing cards and books are also inside. There’s a handy utility room with a dog wash to the side that’s a lifesaver. The fact it is adjoining to the barn meant that when our neighbours got up from the table and moved their chairs they scraped them across the floor which happened frequently and disturbed our peace. They had children too that added to it and a dog that randomly barked. You can hear everything next door. All in all it was a great place to stay. I would definitely recommend and I would go back again. 4.5* / 5

One highlight worthy of a mention, is the visiting Red Squirrel/Squirrels, a brilliant experience. This holiday cottage is high on our agenda, to visit again. We really didn't want to leave! Your cottage is second to none. So peaceful but close to the local pub if needed for beautiful food and refreshments. Hot tub is tranquil, just sitting watching the views and red squirrel in the tree. The super king bed is a luxury and the large walk in shower is amazing. The cottage is spotlessly clean and modern with everything you need and more with local walks from the doorstep. Very dog friendly with secure dog fields all around and even a doggy barn with dog shower and towels for after your muddy walks. Also in the barn is washing machine and dryer if needed. Ruth the host is a lovely friendly, helpful lady whom is a phone all away if needed. We wouldn’t hesitate to return to this beautiful place which is central for your visits around the lakes. Thankyou so much, we will be back x

Detailed to perfection. Gloriously modern yet still cosy. Bathroom is beautiful. Location, hot tub, kitchen, bathroom, bed, everything just wonderful Great price too and I would highly recommend going with a group of friends / family and hiring both the cottages out so it’s all private. Only thing I just suggest, please put an extra gate between the two cottages. For privacy and to stop dog fights. Thank you for an amazing time

Thank you for your wonderful feedback. We Have taken on board your comments regarding the small gate between the properties and have fitted a solid fence pannel. We are so pleased you had an amazing time. Property Owner

Ruth the host is brilliant with her local knowledge and keeps the property and surrounding area immaculate. This area of The Lakes is wonderfully unspoilt and quiet, perfect to get away from it all and see the red squirrels morning and night. The cottage itself is clean, well equipped and very dog friendly - the dog field/s are amazing. Lovely super king bed. Views are stunning. We never go back to a property, but this cottage was so good, we're coming back next year.

  • "We have just left after spending a week in this cottage and loved it so much we are going to rebook as soon as we get home!"

Ruth is an amazing host and met us at the property after a very long drive. She showed us around the property and also kept us up to date during our stay when there was a power cut, which was appreciated. The cottage is just beautiful and perfect. The attention to detail during the renovation of the barn is spot on. The cottage itself is spotless, and has all the amenities that you need. The bed was so comfortable, we are going to buy the same mattress for our home! The hot tub was just what we needed after exploring the area. Our two dogs were well catered for with bowls, blankets and towels along with some welcome biscuits for them. The cottage comes with bi fold doors, which we took advantage of when the weather was nice, and it just made the property feel so much bigger. We would have liked a 3 seater sofa or a small chair in the living room as we felt the seating area was restricted, but that is just a very minor detail. I have seen a review on the bigger cottage next door, complaining about access to the property being difficult and you cannot swing your car into the access point if you approach from the left hand side. Ignore that negative review, we have a 4x4 vehicle and managed to do it every time with no issues! All in all, we loved staying here, the dogs loved it and we will be back soon!

Everything was perfect for us and the dog washing facility was greatly appreciated at the end of a very muddy 8 hour hike. Ruth was a lovely host and nothing seemed too much trouble, coming to our rescue to help us get to a 50th birthday meal. The location was ideal to get out and explore the hills and the barn was a great place to relax at the end of a hike. The hot tub was nice and hot even on a cold rainy evening. The enclosed field straight outside the barn was amazing for him to run around on inbetween adventures! Everything was completely perfect from start to finish - there wasn’t anything more we could of asked for at Meadow Syke Byre. Ruth was very welcoming and showed us around the property, explained how the hot tub worked and also showed us the utility room - dog shower, one word… AMAZING and well needed after busy days exploring The Lake District. The whole accommodation and lay out is very well thought out and at such a high standard. The bed was by far the comfiest we have EVER slept on - so much so we’ve already ordered a DreamCloud mattress since visiting! We were also amazed to find out there is a door through to the property next door - fabulous if you’re going away with family or friends and one we will definitely bare in mind for future bookings. The fields outside the property were amazing and extremely useful for letting the girls out for a run first thing on a morning and last thing at night! Overall we had a perfect weekend at Meadow Syke Barn, we will 100% recommend the property to family and friends and hopefully be back again when we next explore The Lake District!
