  • "Firstly the hosts, Sue and Gary were completely charming, so accommodating and helpful, took the time out - even when we were delayed on arrival with BH traffic to show us around the cottage, so lovely."

The cottage itself is immaculate, the kitchen one of the best equipped we’ve had in a holiday rental and we’ve been cottaging in the lakes for years. The location is brilliant for hikers and families with Kendal, Windermere and even a day trip to morcombe all under an hour. Finally - if you are taking your doggy family member as we did, the stream is perfect for them - for a little play or washing of any muddy paws before reentering the cottage, the children happened to love birdy watching there too - especially the Heron. All around a perfect 4 day stay and we will definitely be back!

The property

This Lakeland cottage is situated alongside the River Gilpin near the Cumbrian village of Crosthwaite. Bobbin Mill Cottage is one of a number of conversions in an old mill property and with its location by the river down a beautiful country lane, this offers quality accommodation for a peaceful small family or two-couple holiday in the Lake District. The ground floor boasts a high-quality open plan living area.

Whether nestled around the TV in the cosy sitting area with its wood-burning stove or cooking up a treat in the large fully-equipped kitchen area to enjoy at the ample dining space, you can be sure that whatever your needs, the standards and finish in the cottage are of high quality.

Upstairs are two cosy bedrooms, one double and one twin, to complete the cosy interior. The exterior of the property offers the real ‘wow factor.’ Large landscaped gardens are shared between you and the occupants of the other properties in the building, with the river running immediately next to your cottage. Riverside walks start outside your front door, and within a mile, you will reach the village of Crosthwaite to sample some local food and ale.

The leisure club of Damson Dene is within the same distance, with complimentary membership available to pamper yourself during your stay. Further afield lies the beauty of Windermere.

All the waterside activities are available, from the energetic water-sports to a leisurely cruise on the lake, all just a ten-minute drive to some of the most stunning beauty the Lake District has to offer. Where you’ll be staying

CROSTHWAITE

Bowness-on-Windermere 5 miles; Kendal 6 miles.

Crosthwaite is a small village set in the picturesque Lyth Valley, famous for its damson trees, and boasts a lovely pub known nationally for its excellent food. The lakeside towns of Windermere and Bowness are nearby, with plenty of activities, interest and entertainment for all ages. Also within easy reach is the popular market town of Kendal, an historic Lakeland town with a fine reputation for shopping. Kendal nestles on the banks of the River Kent. Its old cobbled lanes and byways branch off the attractive main street, and the stone ruins of 12th century Kendal Castle sit perched on a hill with views over the town. Both Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall with its superb Topiary Garden, are nearby, as are limestone escarpments for easy walking, offering thrilling views of the Lakeland Mountains, the Howgills and Morecambe Bay.
