The pictures of the view and garden do not do it justice, wrap around garden really means huge wrap around! We really appreciated how well stocked the property was with essentials and cooking implements too. We spent most of the time in the kitchen taking in the view. Thank you.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Scarsdale."

The house is very well appointed and decorated. The garden is particularly delightful and the neighbours are a couple of cows, the village church and the Punchbowl pub, which serves excellent food! Just a couple of issues: the top oven of the electrical conventional side of the Aga wouldn't come up to temperature, so needs attention and some of the dials could do with replacing, as the markings have worn off. We were unable to watch Netflix because the accounts were all locked and there was no guest access.

  • "Had a wonderful time at the house, beautiful location and gardens!"

Overall a lovely stay, and would go back. However, the fridge really struggled to stay cold, and create a seal. We were only given 3 rolls of toilet paper for 8 people and three days. The lights in the main bathroom go off, so you have to shower in the dark. No fairy or cleaning supplies available, you’ll need to bring your own. Only found one beat up sauté pan to use. The electric oven has all of the numbers/ temperatures rubbed off on the dials, so you can’t tell the temperature. You just have to hope for the best. Views are beautiful, garden is great, loved the pub next door .

Thank you for your comments. We are pleased to hear that you had an enjoyable stay, and the gardens! We will ask our Property Services Team to look into your comments regarding the fridge, and the lights in the main bathroom. The toilet roll provided is left as a starter. We take all comments on board. Thank you- The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "We stayed at Scarsdale last year and gave it 5 stars, however we were disappointed with a few housekeeping issues on our recent break."

The grill pan in the Aga hadn't been cleaned before our arrival and was still covered with foil containing food remains. The freezer in the utility room was blocked solid with thick ice and we were unable to open the door. The gutters were very obviously blocked and water was dripping through inside above the top of the living room window. We left several containers on the windowsill to try and prevent damage to the sofa. There is water damage to the plaster and roller blind above the window.

Thank you for your feedback. We apologise for the issues that you experienced with the cleanliness of the property. Please be assured that our housekeeping team have ensured that our high standards are met. Our Maintenance Team have completed works above the window, so this is no longer an issue. Thank you. • "Beautiful property, looks exactly like the photos."

I feel it should’ve been much cleaner than it was. There were lots of dead flies and spiders on windowsills and in corners, clearly hadn’t had a deep clean in a while. Having said that the bedding was fresh and the kitchen was clean so that was the main thing. Such a shame the people running the pub next door were so unwelcoming. It’s more of a restaurant than a pub, no area to sit just to have a drink and if you do want to eat they won’t accommodate dogs in the restaurant so that made things difficult. We received a very frosty welcome and needless to say didn’t go back, we even cancelled our restaurant booking after the menus had been thrown at us and told we had half an hour left to preorder or else! The cottage itself is lovely but very isolated, no other pubs or shops within walking distance so as long as you’re happy with that. It’s a good 20 minute drive into one of the villages. The rooms were spacious, the main bedroom is huge! Living areas were also very spacious and cosy. Overall a lovely stay in a lovely property.

  • "It's a great property."

We enjoyed the seclusion, the gardens, running around the various tracks we discovered in the vicinity. It's also quite a big place, and as we were only three people, we hardly used the upstairs. The downstairs bedrooms were great for us, but for the fact that the smaller one didn't have a proper double bed, but two singles put together. The space where they met, that gap, made it difficult to rest on more than a few nights. Otherwise, the washer/dryer was a pain, because it simply takes too long per cycle. But that was our only quibble. Everything else was clean, appropriately furnished with all the necessary conveniences, from the coffee machine to the gamers nook, where our son enjoyed the Wii and games provided. The views from every room are breathtaking. It's quiet, restful, lovely. The Punch Bowl pub is right across the road, so great food is quite close at hand. Sadly, the atmosphere in the pub isn't so great, lacking warmth. Crosthwaite is a sleepy little village that belongs on a postcard. In conclusion, Scarsdale is a great find. We wouldn't hesitate to book it again.

  • "There was a book for guests to note problems that were experienced that needed attending to etc."

On arrival and on inspection of the property none of these items had been addressed. We also made comments on leaving, including the blocked drain and consequent overflowing (I contacted Lakelovers as soon as we saw the problem but it was not attended to by our return) Contacted them again (After hours) and it got cleared early evening. It does appear that drainage/blocked guttering/downpipes are a problem as gutters were overflowing during the rain and causing what looks like damp in the lounge. The electric Aga looked as it had not been "fired up" for some time and looked in a poor state of repair. The gardens are the most beautiful we have experienced in any rental property. I did mention in the "to do things" book the pine tree on the left boundary that had a split branch that looked like it could fall at any moment.

  • "Needs a washing line with all that garden!"

If you ever change the utility area or need a new washer / dryer I would recommend separate washing machine and drier as it would speed up laundry time massively. I would happily stay again though in the future.

  • "We loved our stay at Scarsdale."

There were only 4 of us (so didn’t need to use upstairs), but we had plenty of room. The kitchen had everything you could need and we were ok using the Aga - the picture window at the end of the dining table is just stunning! The beds were large and comfortable and the bathrooms good quality. We had our dog with us as well and he loved the large garden and the hose by the back door was great for cleaning any mud off him. We’re already planning our return visit for next year.

  • "Cottage was gorgeous."

Just a couple of things which aren’t as you’d expect - the duvets are synthetic and the bed linen is very average / poor. I would expect with the quality of the cottage to have crisp white sheets which wasn’t the case and does definitely make a difference. The other thing was the door lock on the front door - it being just a knob which you turn on the inside it meant our toddler could get out of the house anytime of the day or night which isn’t particularly practical.

  • "Following our separation through the lockdown, at short notice I booked Scarsdale for a holiday with our three young adult sons and partners."

The accommodation was perfect for our party. All good sized double bedrooms and plenty of space in the living/dining areas for our number of adults. Location is good and we did plenty of walking. The day we did Helvellyn, was misty and wet (does it ever get dry/ visible up there?). Aira Force was a great walk and we also walked locally around Lords Lot, which made a pleasant change from the endurance of the bigger hills. We did the lake cruise from Lakeside because the parking is plentiful there. Covid restrictions made it hard to get restaurant bookings at night, but we enjoyed The Black Labrador and there were plenty of lunch walk-ins available. Using the ‘keep warm’ aga oven was fun - but I found the main roasting oven very frustrating as the temperature was too low to cook much. Great that there was an electric back up, but they took a long time to heat. Our meals were rather late as a result, but we’re on holiday. Take plenty of black sacks for rubbish. There was only 1 small recycling box for everything. Nothing to put food waste at the kerbside, so recycled materials had to go in the normal waste. What a pity. Hopefully this can be improved. We had a comfortable stay in this clean, well stocked villa. The lovely welcome pack was much appreciated.
