Properties that display the Sustonica badge have successfully passed the criteria,
which align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council standards,

"Cottage was OK."
However if you want a shower you have to go from your bedroom down two flights of stairs into the basement.
Its damp and fusty in the basement and there is a dehumidifier working overload.
The shower and toilet room is rather cramped.
Kitchen was nice enough and had everything you need.
'The living room is alright but nothing reclines but that's fine if you want to sit bolt upright after a long day on the fells.
Advertised is a wi game - it doesn't work so why advertise it. The TV is old so your not going to have much variety on what you watch.
Parking can be a bit tricky and you might find yourselves walking a long way from whichever street you can find to park on.
The upstairs bathroom had a faulty toilet cistern - there was an instruction note to advise us it was faulty placed on top of the cistern telling us we need to position the flush handle just so after flushing - otherwise the cistern would constantly be filling and discharging via the overflow all night. We manged this fine, but the real disappointment was the fact that the owner then put a claim in after we left to replace the their faulty/damaged toilet !!!! They said we had damaged it. Furthermore, Sykes cottages endorsed their claim £200!!! We have used sykes cottages before. Never again - check out their reviews its alarming. Sykes cottages work on a basis of don't call us you'll never get through to us.
Thank you for your feedback. At the time of your booking the property listing details the cottage has an upstairs bathroom with a roll top bath with a shower attachment and on the lower ground floor there is a shower room. The basement is not damp. The room has been professionally tanked. The Lake District has high levels of humidity especially during the summer months therefore we use a dehumidifier in the basement to prevent the room from becoming damp. The dehumidifier had been emptied prior to your arrival and the digital display was showing the recommended level of humidity for the room.
We are pleased that you found the kitchen to be well equipped. Thank you for bringing it to our attention that the Wii console is not working, we shall address this issue. We note that you did not report this fault to us during your stay.
We note that you gave a low score on cleanliness. This came as a bit of a surprise to us, as when we contacted you when you arrived you replied by text message that you were "Very Happy" and we did not receive any further communication with you during your stay. We are quality inspected annually and every year since 2016 we have scored 100% on cleanliness. The 2024 report states "Cleanliness levels are again impressive".
The note placed on the cistern advises guests that the cistern can occasionally run to overflow if the valve does not seat properly. The issue rarely occurs and a slight movement of the handle is all that is required. On the day of your departure we arrived at the cottage to find the toilet cistern was cracked from top to bottom and was leaking water. We know the crack was not present on the day which you arrived as we had cleaned the cottage ourselves on that day. The plumber advised us to isolate the water supply to the toilet and order a replacement unit. We took photographs and reported the damage to Lakelovers in person that day. This is the reason for the claim, the cost to us was greater than the house keeping bond amount claimed. This lead to the unfortunate situation where the guests arriving that day only had the use of the basement toilet during their stay.

"The cottage was perfect for us, however it's worth mentioning that the double room was the smallest room we've ever slept in."
The outside space was perfect as a dog area, but I wouldn't want to sit out of an evening ie eat out there. Some people have said the basement shower was an issues, but none of tgese are reasons not to book - location is brilliant, as was kitchen & lounge. We just used the cottage as a base to see the wonderful lake district and had a great break!

"Lovely place so won't dwell on all the positives."
Feedback. Needs a mirror over basement hand basin. A long mirror would be good somewhere. The bedrooms were tight due to bed steads high bases. Unable to sit on twin bed bottom to use dressing table a simple divan base would have made all the difference. Otherwise beautifully done out, great location would go again.

"Cosy cottage in an excellent location, close to amenities but very quiet."
Well decorated and comfotably furnished.
Just a few very small niggles- some of the doors (bedroom and bathroom) do not close easily, space is quite tight in front bedroom and the basement is rather cold so not the best after a shower! Stairs are steep so could be difficult for those with mobility issues.
Overall, we had a lovely time in the lake district and will definitely be returning to explore further afield.

"Lovely holiday cottage."
Perfect location for visiting Windermere and surrounding areas.
Beds a little too soft for our liking, but that is personal preference.

"The cottage was in a great location and very clean throughout."
We welcomed the message from the owners to say we could access the property earlier than 4pm. The owners had also kindly left a bottle of wine and essentials for our arrival.
Accommodation - I don’t think the pictures truly reflect the property as they make it seem a little bigger. If you have mobility issues you would struggle with this cottage as the stairs were steep and see comments below.
Kitchen - nice and as reflected in the pictures.
Living room - comfortable and cosy room
Upstairs the rooms felt quite small and the furniture not well placed. You have to squeeze past furniture to get to mirrors etc, past hot radiator to get to the other side of the double bed so it all very tight. The bathroom was lovely but we would have preferred the shower to be in here, instead the shower was a tiny cubicle in the basement that would not work for tall people.
Garden - furniture was different to photos and is now a rattan suite but was covered in bird mess. Would be nice for this area to have some plant pots to soften it.
Despite this we enjoyed our stay. With a few adjustments the cottage could be fantastic.

"Disappointed that we were not informed before arrival that the shower was awaiting repair."
This did cause some inconvenience to all of us, due to health conditions.
My husband also found a used cotton bud under the bed in the double room.

"Charming cottage in the heart of Windermere!"
! Close to all restaurants and pubs and perfect location for exploring the lakes. The kitchen had everything we needed, the bedrooms were super comfy with plenty of storage for clothes etc. The outside area was perfect for our golden retriever and for sitting with a glass of wine in the evening! I can't wait to return here next year!!

A really good base for a family holiday.
In terms of minor points of feedback, the shower in the basement was fine as long as you were not taller then 5ft 10 - might have been better in main bathroom with plenty of height.
There was a sign on the toilet to flush twice if water kept running - again not a major issue but slightly annoying if kids are up in the night and forget to fiddle with it - easier to just fix it.
The main bedroom is also a bit tight on space.

Two cottage bedrooms, each with a bathroom facility and one complete with roll top bath, perfect for a long soak after a day on the fells - this central cottage serves as a romantic retreat and its intriguing name is allegedly given originally by local Windermere boatmen to a waterside legend which was seen to reside on Belle Isle.

WINDERMERE
Ambleside 5 miles; Kendal 8.7 miles.
The twin towns of Bowness and Windermere are both vibrant, fun-filled places set within the splendid scenery of the Lake District. Both towns provide a range of amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes whilst Ambleside offers the additional attraction of a boat ride to Bowness, the Lakeside Aquarium and Beatrix Potter's 'Hill Top House' at Sawrey. Grizedale Forest Park is within easy driving distance and is home to a range of activities including many good walks, mountain biking and the 'Go Ape' adventure park. The region also boasts many National Trust properties as well as a variety of water sports for those who prefer a more adrenaline-fuelled trip. Children will enjoy a trip to the 'World of Beatrix Potter' in Bowness whilst the villages of Grasmere, Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains are all within easy reach.
