  • "Excellent cottage in a great location."

All you need in the cottage for a comfortable stay. We have stayed in many properties over the year’s & this is up there with the best. The Lemon Drizzle cake which was left for us was delicious, thank you Anne. We look forward to a return visit.

  • "This would have been a straight 5* review."

The location with private parking is excellent and the property is nicely laid out and equipped internally, with a log burner, ensuite to the bedroom and a separate bathroom with bath/shower and wc. However, we were somewhat disappointed by the quality of the bedding/pillows, the very soft mattress, the ensuite wc which had a flushing fault and the sticking wardrobe door. Overall cleanliness was to a good standard but the area around the log burner was quite dusty. These are all relatively minor and easily remedied issues but were enough to shave a star off the score.

  • "We stayed at Wheatlands over Christmas."

The cottage was tastefully decorated with some thoughtful touches - a card, crackers, sweets and Anne’s delicious lemon cake. The weather was wet and windy, but we were warm and cosy by the log fire. We walked straight from the cottage, through woodland down to the lake, up to Biskey Howe viewpoint and on to sections of the scenic Dales Way. A short drive away, the arts and crafts house, Blackwell, is a real gem. We had cosy meals in, as the cottage is very well equipped and Booths supermarket is just up the road. Thank you, Anne and David. Wheatlands Cottage has been perfect for our Christmas break.

Both cottages are spotlessly clean and fully equipped for a self catering stay. The mattress is of high quality and very comfortable. Wheatlands is very conveniently located close to the centre of Windermere village. There is no need to use the car as the buses are frequent and stop nearby. The cottage is situated in a quiet lane and it is easy to walk to the lake if you are energetic. There is a sunny patio and last but by no means least the owner provides a delicious homemade cake to welcome you.

It is always a pleasure to welcome you back. So glad you enjoyed your stay at Wheatlands Cottage. Kind regards. Property Owner

Everything was so clean and the lemon cake very welcome to have with a cuppa after a day out. The owners have put a lot of thought into what people might want / need which was much appreciated. Coming out of the driveway is a bit of a challenge due to the narrow road / gateposts - certainly takes more than a three point turn. I would certainly recommend this lovely cottage and hope to return in the future.

We were really pleased about the location of Wheatlands cottage. In the beautiful village Windermere, near by shops, restaurants and public transport, but with enough privacy and quietness. And at walk distance from the Lake and beautiful view points. We came from the Netherlands by train and travelled through the Lake District by bus. We felt the outdoor patio was not attractive and light restricted by overhanging trees and the shed. The photo showing it in full sunshine is misleading as we sat out in the evening a couple of times but the patio claustrophobic with no attractive view. The location of the cottage is excellent being a hundred yards or so from the town centre and close to bus stops which we used a lot.

We just found it rather dark inside, and having to use the lights on returning ,even on a sunny day. The website picture in my opinion have the i.impression of a sunny quite spacious secluded sitting area, but in reality was a small damp dark area because of the fo!iage with no shed shown taking up space. Would hesitate to book somewhere again where check in is at 4pm and check out at 9.30am, especially as we were travelling by train so had no where to store our luggage and had to catch an earlier train home instead.

I'm sorry you felt the check in/out times were not long enough. If visitors mobile number is available to owners we always text when the cottage has been cleaned usually by 1 pm (depending how it is previously left). With extensive Covid cleaning by the owners without time pressures to clean more than one cottage it can take up to 4 hours to clean and prepare your cottage which I think gives our guests peace of mind. We did in fact extend the check out & suggested left luggage at the station nearby. Thanks for the good feedback in the visitors book. Property Owner

This cottage is a stone throw from Windemere centre and we were happy with the walk into Bowness however the bus runs back and forth all day so it is not an issue for less mobile.
