We thank the owners for giving attention to every detail, thank you for letting us stay.

  • "We stayed at this fabulous home last year and loved it so much we booked it again this year for our holiday, it’s perfect for our family to be together, ourselves 3 children and partners and 4 Young grand children (2 to 7 years)."

The cinema was enjoyed by us all. The house has been designed to cater for larger parties with no shortage of anything from crockery tcutalrey glasses it has everything on hand to enjoy the delights of the Lake District. We enjoyed the little cafe/restaurant and the village pub and the walks along the river. A big thank-you to the owners for sharing this lovely home they obviously have a flair and a great business for internal decor and furnishing's. In this world not everything is perfect, the cleaning was not up to standard to match the house on arrival and also we had a problem with no hot water, we rang Sykes Cottages and the phones during the day were out of order saying ring back later which we did and still no answer. We sent a email to ask for assistance and still no reply. We solved the issue ourselves by seeking advise from google and resetting the system no further problems . Looking forward to visiting again, if the cinema room was renamed the ‘Brian Clough Suite’

  • "The location of the property was good."

We did have a problem with the hot water initially but Sykes were on to this straight away. We had worked out for ourselves the solution, which Sykes confirmed by the end of the holiday. It would be useful to have in the "Everything you need to know" folder, instructions about boosting the hot water to make sure there is enough water for 8 people to have a morning shower. The property had lots of facilities which were excellent, however this was slightly let down by the cleanliness of the property. All linen and towels were perfectly clean and laundered well. However, the property was dusty, had many cobwebs and the floors were dirty in some of the bathrooms. This was evident from the fabric bathmat after mopping up water from the floor - the bathmat was really dirty. Also if you had socks on or bare feet, after you had walked around the property for a while your feet/socks were also dirty. This didn't spoil our holiday, but as it was rated 5 stars, it let the rating down slightly. The property is well laid out, has everything you need for a comfortable stay and we all had a lovely family week.

  • "I had emailed and phoned during our stay regarding the dishwasher, this was never repaired during our stay, neither was the Tumble Dryer sorted or the Oven."

We went on holiday for a break, not to continually keep washing up. The kitchen isn't really big enough to cook for 11 in, and the seating in the Lounge isn't really big enough to seat us all. The bedrooms and bathrooms are lovely, but perhaps more effort could be put into the kitchen.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for the maintenance issues you encountered, but unfortunately the part required needed to be ordered and did not arrive before the end of your stay. We are glad that you found the rest of the property comfortable. Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

This listing is incorrect. There is not kitchenette in the loughrigg suit. Picture very misleading. No bathrobes. Needs a thorough deep clean. Sofas in main living space are worn and extremely uncomfortable. Bottom oven needs fan sorting and tumble drier worked intermittently even when all filters were clear. Shower in Hamilton suite has green mood and the bath mat was covered with mood and hair. 3 beds had clothes under from previous guests yet all beds wardrobe were easy to clean under. Location excellent but this is far from luxury accommodation.

We would like to thank you for your comments. We are pleased our Customer Service team have been in contact with you now. The property previously had bath robes but due to laundry issues during Covid, the owner is no longer able to provide these. We have now amended our website. Ourselves at Lakelovers and the owner have taken your comments on board and will be investigating and making any other necessary changes. • "Had a truly memorable family holiday didn’t hear."

Fantastic weather too!! It was a Stunning property, in a most Beautiful area of the Lakes. A massive place with plenty of elaborate bedrooms & bathrooms, enough to sleep at least 12 people, however the shared rooms (kitchen & front room combined) would be best suited for 8/9 at the most. We loved the covered porch area, with seating to take our walking boots off, which was a real sun trap in the morning, a lovely place to sit with a cuppa at the start of the day. We also enjoyed the movie room downstairs in the basement, where there was also a very warm Boiler/Utility room, where we could get our dirty clothes washed & dried very easily during our stay, very well kitted out. . Many fantastic walks starting from Elterwater, we walked to Grasmere, Ambleside, Skelwith Bridge & Little Langdale, so no need to drive anywhere if you don’t want to. But if you fancy a shopping day out in Ambleside there is a regular bus service, reasonably priced we used that a lot, where there’s lots of interesting shops, specialist walking stores, cafes & pubs galore plus Hayes a little walk out of town, the largest garden centre I’ve ever been to. If you’re up to walking a little further, then head down to Watershead where you can get a boat & cruise Lake Windermere for the day, stopping off at Bowness on Windermere & Lakeside. Lakeland’s store is worth a visit too, if you like cooking & kitchen gadgets. Elterwater has a great pub; The Britannia Inn, on its doorstep which does good food, but plenty of other pubs within walking distance; Eltermere Inn plus Wainwright’s which is a short walk to Chapel Stile, where you also find a convenience store & Brambles Cafe. There is even a Cocktail Bar which does food on the hill close by. It’s just a Fantastic & Interesting place to stay. The only complaints being the shower in Best’s bedroom ran too hot so couldn’t get an ideal temperature. And we also were a little disappointed that there was no welcome pack when we arrived. We had travelled from East Anglia, so had a long long nightmare of a journey & by the time we arrived which was late, there was no milk or complimentary tea/coffee/sugar, so had to wait until we had unpacked everything out the car in order to make ourselves a well needed drink. Other places we have stayed at leave a complimentary arrival pack, which includes a loaf of bread, butter, jam, tea/coffee, milk & sometimes a cake & wine, usually providing locally produced items. We also had a suggestion due to the double fridge freezer being in the hallway behind a door that’s used a lot. You need to put some port hole windows in that door, plus the one to the kitchen too, so you can see whose behind it, so no one try’s to open the door when someone is in the fridge or getting something out the cooker. Anyway it was a fantastic holiday & would definitely return.

  • "Good points: - Great location - Easy parking - Nice big bedrooms (apart from one) Bad points: - Kitchen is nowhere near big enough for that many guests."

Similar work surface / storage to a 1 bed flat. - Main bedroom suite shown as having a kitchenette on website photos but on arrival had been removed. This exasperated the above issue and was a let down. - property has 6 rooms all with double beds. We phoned prior to booking to confirm these could be separated into twins in the kids’ rooms. We would not have booked it otherwise. This was not actioned and we were told the conversation did not take place. It caused stress on arrival but eventually it was rectified. But the property isn’t suitable for children sharing a room for this reason. - 1 bedroom is tiny - Microwave did not work - someone came out to show us how to use it but it didn’t actually warm food up. It was also at floor level bit odd and inconvenient. - Kitchen door opens into oven area. Poor workflow design and made cooking awkward. - Oven had missing instructions and was impossible to figure out so hard to use. - Property info book mentioned a deal with local leisure facility. After much phoning around and asking, there was no recognition of this as stated which caused frustration / a waste of time. - balustrades are made of threaded bar, not a conventional building finish, and some were loose and fell out leaving a gap that a small child could fall through. Building regs specifies 10cm max gap. Had to refit some of these. Not suitable for toddlers. We had a good holiday but for what it costs, these issues shouldn’t have happened. The main issue is the size of the kitchen.

Having stayed in Elterwater myself on many occasions previously I was keen t they should love it as much as I do. The weather was perfect and we were able to complete some lovely walks returning to the spacious property to relax. The children particularly enjoyed the David Beckham room whilst the eldest grandson loved sleeping in the Pele room. The kitchen was a little tight cooking for 11 and we could not work the bottom microwave. My daughter reported the toilet in the other downstairs bedroom kept blocking. Thanks to the lady across and the owner for solving the issues from power cut. Highly recommended.

The kitchen was much too small ( fridge great though) to prep meals. 1 bedroom opposite the kitchen was absolutely tiny . We all agreed that 2 of the sofas needed some upholstery work. • "First, and most importantly, we (my wife and I, 3 children and their partners plus 5 grandchildren) had an excellent holiday at Le Chalet."

The location is perfect for high level walks without using the car and I would book it again providing the following items are fixed. 1. There was a problem with the hot water for the bathroom on the second floor at the top of the stairs. This appeared to be the only hot water supply running of the left hand boiler and I contacted you about this at the time. I think the problem is that the boiler doesn’t recognise any water flow when a tap is turned on, so you have to press the boost button to get it to heat up. We never had to touch the boost button on the righthand heater which supplied copious hot water to 5 bathrooms and the kitchen. The heater labelling is incorrect. 2. The kitchen facilities/space was cramped for catering for 12 people – there was not enough cupboard space for client provisions. 3. One, if not 2 shelves in the fridge were missing. See 2 above. 4. The top oven/grill/microwave didn’t work. I should have raised this with the maintenance men that visited but I wasn’t aware of this till Thursday evening.

  • "The property is in a great location with the lovely, friendly Britannia Inn just around the corner."

We all loved the house and may return another year. It was warm and well stocked with crockery, pans, utensils etc. Please be aware the small double has limited space compared to all the other large bedrooms. We did feel that the Loughrigg Suite was a little wasted on us (8 ladies) but the extra space and facilities may suit a different party. We didn’t use the media room but can see that being a bonus to families. We did feel that we could have used a bit more worktop space in the kitchen (that’s only a mild criticism) and perhaps a second bin as we half filled it when leaving even though it was emptied the day before. Someone dragged the bins down to the Original Cottage office on Mill Row for emptying on our behalf so the instructions re where the bins need to be for collection could perhaps be updated. This is a lovely property with lots of walks from your front door with several pubs/eateries on most routes. We will return and there’s no better compliment than that.

  • "Monday 22 November --26th nine of us went to stay at Le Chalet."

We go away every year so need a large property and we like to cook. Le Chalet is a beautiful property and the owners have spent a lot of money on it. The bedrooms were lovely apart from the double which was a little small with not much light .Also the furniture in the lounge was a little low, difficult for older visitors. However the water was always hot with lovely bedding and towels provided. The kitchen was for us a little small but well equiped with plenty of crockery, cutlery, glasses and pots and pans. The location was ideal as we have walkers in the group and they had three wonderful days walking. As for the rest a very good bus service to help us make use of our bus passes. The village pub was great, good beer and wonderful food which we sampled on our last night there. The local cafe Slates was also a lovely place to eat and we had lunch there. All in we had a lovely week up in Elterwater and would recommend it as a place to see a beautiful part of the country.

  • "I have already sent an email regarding dust on surfaces and under beds, about two bedside lamps not working, and about a dimmer switch already being broken (we found it under a bed)."

These are besides the hot water not working when we got up one morning and it being difficult to contact you because no one was available until 9 am, then I was on hold after the automatic menu was too quiet to hear. The photos of Le Chalet and the virtual tour really made it look better than it was: the view from some rooms was non-existent ( a white wall/ a skylight only, and one room with a high, tiny window). It also needs a better range of cookware such as saucepans if 12 people are being cooked for, and the dining table could not reasonably accommodate more than eight people. So... all in all, Le Chalet was disappointing.

  • "We had a lovely holiday in Le Chalet."

The property was ideal for 2 families as there was plenty of space. All the bedrooms were stylishly furnished and had good sized comfortable beds plus 4 of the 6 had ensuite bathrooms. All rooms had a hairdryer. There was a great TV room downstairs which our teenage children loved. There were kitchen / dining areas in both the top floor suite and on the main floor both with dishwashers. The kitchen was well kitted out with pans, plates glasses etc however there wasn't a lot of spare space for food. The dining table easily seated our party of 10. The lounge are was great for the adults in the evening and had a TV and iPod dock. We didn't need the wood burner but I imagine this would be a great asset in the winter. There was a very useful laundry room in the basement with washing machine and tumble dryer plus an iron. There was a small outside area which although not really big enough for everyone to sit out was great for doing a BBQ. (We took a portable one). The house is in a great location and ideal as a base for exploring the Lakes and walking. There are also 3 good local pubs within walking distance. In summary I would definitely recommend this property and if we return to Elterwater we would love to rent it again.

Langdale is always brilliant. The only improvements you could make would be a clearer and more complete visitor handbook, covering wi-fi etc. It's hard to contact Sykes because of poor reception and non-local knowledge. A table and seats would improve the limited outdoor space. No bicycle storage as garage out-of-bounds. Really, though, this is an excellent cottage and we would certainly recommend it.

Elterwater is a true escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A tranquil hamlet with its tiny ‘swan lake’, Elter Water, sitting at the gateway of the striking Langdale valley. The soft valley landscape is in sharp contrast to the steep jagged Langdale Pikes. Elterwater sits between Ambleside and Great Landgale, where at the top of the valley the infamous Wrynose Path is the only way out of the u-shaped valley, giving it a superb sense of seclusion. The larger towns of Grasmere and Ambleside are a short drive away providing a host of options for shopping and eating out.
