Far Sawrey is a tranquil village to the west of Lake Windermere, with a lovely church, local pub: The Cuckoo Brow, and masses of walking routes from your front door.
The Tower Bank Arms at Near Sawrey, is 5-minute drive, or a 20-minute walk.
Also here is Hill Top, Beatrix Potter’s home, and many beautiful walks: Moss Eccles Tarn, Claife Heights or Esthwaite Water.
Hop on the ferry and head over to lively Bowness, full of shops, restaurants, hire boats and Lake District family attractions in Bowness - including the Royalty Cinema, Old Laundry Theatre and the World of Beatrix Potter attraction.
There are lovely walks along the lakeshore in both directions.
Wray Castle is a popular destination.
Hawkshead village is also only a short drive away.
With its car-free cobbled streets, local shops, tea rooms and tempting delicatessens you'll find a leisurely day is well spent.
A little further on is Ambleside; a cosmopolitan Lake District village with sophisticated shops, cafes and restaurants.
From Ambleside, you can also stroll to Waterhead Pier to take a cruise on Lake Windermere or follow the A591 to Rydal Water and historic Grasmere.
