  • "Great place to stay, as advertised in a fantastic location."

Only downside was no fuel in house for the log burner. Checking in at 16.30 then realising we had to go back on ourselves to get fuel when it was getting dark was a little hassle. Also needed batteries for the tv remote as they were flat. Only very minor things though as everything else was great and we would definitely return.

Thank you for your feedback following your recent stay at Ullswater. Unfortunately, properties no longer get logs provided. An honesty box system was in operation, and our sawmill was replenishing stocks, however we were finding that guests weren’t being honest, and therefore we made the decision to remove all logs. Guests are able to pre-order logs through our farm shop ordering system so that they have them prior to arrival, or alternatively they can go to the farm shop themselves to purchase logs. • "We had no problems but the day we were leaving, whilst I was cleaning up in the kitchen."

I noticed a gap in the plinth under the cooker units were I could see mice droppings. Maybe consider closing these gaps up.

  • "The accomodation was as described, is in a lovely location with many walks and local attractions nearby, is very good for dogs and we would recommend it to others."

We had one problem when we arrived in the cottage as the fridge broke on the first evening and coolant leaked all over the food & drink inside, much of which we had to dispose of in case it was contaminated. The kitchen floor was also covered in water as the fridge started to defrost. The coolant smelled terrible and lingered for several days, especially on the outside of packaging of any unopened food & drinks which were in the fridge at the time. We did clean the fridge and the kitchen floor, but the smell remained for a long time. This was reported the next morning to Graythwaite via their website and they responded very quickly, taking away the damaged fridge and installing a replacement.

  • "The maintenance of the property was poor."

For example I would expect the kitchen fridge freezer door to have been replaced in a property at this price point. Without a freezer door, the freezer compartment and the main fridge compartment didn’t work properly.

  • "The key box was different to every other cottage in the facilities however our code opend others making us believe no key had been left."

No one picked up the phone contact number we had been given resulting in the start of our holiday to be fairly stressful In the bed room the ceiling had multiple stains and at night little footstwos could be heard scurrying across so believe stains to be from dead rats? As expected internet was extremely limited at the cottage however finding our acsesspoint had been turned off definitely made it a lot worse. Once switched on internet was usable The cottage was nice once we where able to get in.

  • "The apartments was exactly as described on the homepage and the scenery is very beautiful."

Due to Covid-19 we were asked to check in after 4 pm to allow for extensive cleaning. Unfortunately, we found the apartment not cleaned at all when we arrived at 6 pm (old bed linen on the bed, dirty and wet towels in the bath room etc). Re-arrangements were made for us (after we found a spot with mobile signal) but it took some time and the first evening ended with us going tired & early to bed while the next morning started early to move our luggage to the previous apartment. These things can happen but under Covid-19 they shouldn't, particularly when check-in and check-out times have been changed to meet the new situation. The rest of our holidays was great though

  • "We had a lovely time however the check in times and check out times are a bit unfair."

I feel 4.30 for check in is very late and 9.30 for check out is too early. I paid £400 and we didn’t even get 2 full days at the cottage which I think is unfair. The couches in the living room where extremely small and uncomfortable too. I couldn’t return due to the fact of the timings.

There is absolutely no sound proofing and you can hear the neighbors very clearly. Apart from that we loved every minute of our stay.

  • "The cottage was clean and has lovely views from the lounge window."

It was good there is a phone booth with I presume a working pay phone because there was no mobile signal. Good field to give the dog a run before going out for the day. Local information is scant. The first night we drove to Ambleside to Tesco extra and there is a co-op in Hawkshead village. The heating system is electric night heaters and it is very hot in the bedrooms in the middle of the night nut if turned lower it was quite cold in the cottage during the day. I would stay there again but not in the winter months.

The area was quiet, but not too far from Hawkeshead, Windemere and Coniston. The cottage was clean, tidy and had all homely comforts. I booked a table at the local pub 'The Tower Bank Arms' which was perfect and only a few minutes walk away. Esthwaite lake was also just a short walk away. Perfect.

About the location

SAWREY

Hawkshead 2 miles.

The village of Sawrey is situated two miles from Hawkshead down the eastern side of Esthwaite Water, overlooked by the woods and tarns of Claife Heights. Sawrey consists of two separate hamlets - Near Sawrey and Far Sawrey - both with a cluster of picturesque cottages, tea rooms and pubs. Near Sawrey is famous for Hill Top, the 17th century farmhouse where Beatrix Potter wrote her acclaimed children's stories. Now a museum, owned and run by the National Trust, Hill Top is one of the most visited houses in the Lake District. Far Sawrey is the hamlet furthest away from Hawkshead and the nearest to the ferry point on Windermere. It offers a church and pub/restaurant with a beer garden. There are good walks in the area, including those to Claife Heights and in Grizedale Forest. It's also a great base for enjoying a wide variety of typical Lakeland pursuits - with watersports close at hand on Lake Windermere, fishing on nearby Esthwaite Water and, of course, fell walking.

Please note Esthwaite property is an independent company and no one has rights to be on the water or fish or swim without paying Esthwaite water fishery. Please contact the Estate office before arrival
