  • "Flakebridge Estate is absolutely stunning and so tranquil."

The cottages are absolutely beautiful and luxurious. The whole area is so well maintained and the cottages are immaculately clean. The beds are like sleeping on a cloud and having two bathrooms is a huge bonus. This is our second stay and we’re returning again in May next year. Can’t recommend highly enough. The town of Appleby is lovely and quaint with a lovely walk along the river and near to Rutter force waterfall. An hour from most of the main Lake District attractions. Low Howgill deli and butcher’s is a must visit and the Royal Oak pub does beautiful food and is super dog friendly. The crown and cushion is also lovely for an evening meal and breakfast and is also very dog friendly. Overall a fabulous stay.

  • "Bolton Cottage is furnished and finished to a very high specification and we were very happy to spend a 4 night stay there."

For those used to holiday lettings, this has to be amongst the very best. It forms part of a larger complex of accommodation units primarily designed for corporate events or, in the season, shooting parties. It sits in delightful scenery and lies around 2 miles from Appleby in splendid isolation along a narrow and winding country lane. The nearest pub, the Royal Oak is a longish walk but a short drive away and the restaurant is well worth a visit. A couple of negative points to raise - the fridge has no freezer unit so there is nowhere to store ice for drinks, and. unlike nearly all the holiday lets we have stayed in, there were no toiletries in the en-suite bathrooms, just hand wash. Small details, however. Bolton Cottage is ideal for a short, quiet country break and only an hours drive from the much more crowded Lake District.

  • "The most perfect & immaculate cottage we’ve stayed in especially with it being dog friendly!"

So much land outside to which was so convenient with our dog. Will definitely be back soon! 10/10 would recommend!

  • "This holiday cottage is nothing short of genuine perfection, I have never stayed in such a beautifully designed and furnished cottage, it is hands down the best holiday accommodation I have ever seen."

The cottage was in a stunning location within a stunning private courtyard. Within the cottage itself the furnishing were faultlessly appointed, and the fixtures and even bathroom fixings were to die for, the bath was entirely next level. The owners of this property have impeccable and unparalleled interior design skills, I cannot wait to be back, and I assure you I will be back, most likely dragging family and friends along who I insist have to experience just how perfect the cottage was. My only criticism is that thanks to just how perfect the bathroom was I have now been instructed to refit my own bathroom at home to that same design, a task I fear is going to be rather expensive. Honestly this cottage is faultless in every respect, I couldn’t recommend it highly enough and will without question come back again and again.

It was impeccably clean, high end fittings throughout, the bed was super comfortable, the location beautiful and peaceful and there was always help on hand at anytime if there were any queries. Thank you. :)

  • "Our short stay in this property was very enjoyable."

The accommodation is superb with a very high standard of fixtures and fittings, including a fold-away sink and invisible hob - what a novelty. The courtyard setting is quiet (most suitable for adults) in peaceful countryside, yet easily accessible from Appleby and main roads. It's a great base for exploring the eastern area of the Lake District National Park. Highly recommended!

About the location

APPLEBY-IN-WESTMORLAND

Penrith 14 miles.

The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.
