"Lovely cosy cottage with all you could need for a short stay!"
Close enough to lots of places in the lakes to explore without having to drive too far and large expanse of forest and parkland around the cottage. Had a lovely time, despite rainy weather.

"Underwhelmed by the site, it is depressing ."
Outside is a mess , the table is filthy, windows dirty.Broken concrete. It could be done nicely with a bit of effort. The area is quiet and peaceful and bed comfortable. Amenities ok. The inside is o.k not cleaned for covid standard.I had a holiday let I owned and cleaned and never left it like this.It is not worth the money. I can put up with the place but the site is the worst thing. Not even 1 star.

"With a rear view of concrete with grass and weeds everywhere, a large green tin shed and a rusty wheelbarrow, together with the close proximity to the log and rubbish sheds, I seriously question the cottage being listed as 'romantic'."
The amenities included a full size 12 place setting dishwasher, yet there was a severe shortage of crockery (4 pots) and cutlery (2 knives and 2 forks). The cleanliness left a lot to be desired with cobwebs and dust clearly visible. We were told every cottage should have a clothes horse for drying clothes. There was no clothes horse in the cottage on arrival and despite 3 requests one was never delivered to the cottage during our stay. Positives were the pool which was very good and the prompt attention we received from the maintenance man when we reported a leaking shower head.
Thank you for your feedback and the owner has agreed to remove the word romantic. The property is a compact great value cottage for 2 people wishing to explore the lake district. They will check on the inventory at the cottage and refill where necessary, however they do not advertise cottages having clothes horses, therefore if none were available from their store they would not be able to provide this. "Very nice little cottage situated in a lovely quiet area with stunning scenery."
Phone signal was is non existent in the cottage but WiFi worked perfectly. Cottage is perfect for 2 people but as we had 2 dogs it definitely felt cramped especially with dog crates etc. Facilities where adequate although I would have like to have had a Hoover or at minimum a dust pan and brush considering it was a dog friendly cottage. Great location for visiting Windermere and there are plenty of pubs/restaurants nearby. Overall an enjoyable stay

"It was alright for us for the time of year albeit a bit expensive in covid time as most facilities were not available."
The cottage was cosy and warm and clean. However apart from the indoor swimming on site which we used, we had to drive to places to where we could see Lake Windermere as the walk was too far and unsteady underfoot for my husband who is 83. Lovely place, very friendly staff but facilities just not for our age group.

"Beautiful setting, warm and comfortable property."
The farm shop and pool were of great advantage to our stay. The grounds are stunning, full of wildlife and woodlands walks from the property. Delighted to have found Graythwaite Cottages and will return next autumn to see the fabulous colours and wild deer and pheasants wandering around.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us your great review! We are delighted to hear that you had a lovely stay and took advantage of the lovely grounds and surrounding Graythwaite has to offer. We look forward to welcoming you next Autumn. Property Owner

"Had a lovely week in Can Brow Cottage."
Great to have a swimming pool Cleanliness could have been better -cobwebs and dirty behind bed Could do with a towel change mid week and it would be nice to have a king size bed. Otherwise it was a fantastic stay with every thing accommodated for and great facilities Would definitely book afain
We are delighted to hear that you had a lovely stay and you would like to book again. Thank you for letting us know you had an issue with the cleanliness, we have since sorted this out and glad to say cleaning feedback is excellent now after a blip this Summer. We can certainly arrange a midweek towel change for guests staying for several days which would be at an additional charge. We look forward to welcoming you to Graythwaite in the future. "Reported the fridge shelf broken so could not thread it into the wall indents."
This meant all our food was piled on the floor of the fridge. Had a quick response from our email from the graythwait estate so hopefully will soon be sorted for the next guests. We didnt know there was milk being delivered until after we arrived, which we would have declined had we known. There were 2 pints in the fridge on our arrival which we thought were a welcome gesture but two days later 2 more were left outside the cottage all day in the sun and would have been unusable had we wanted them - which we didnt. We left a note to stop this and luckily managed to catch the milkman 2 days afterwards to pay him. This should be highlighted at the booking stage so people can decline the service if required.
Thank you for leaving us your review. I am happy to confirm that the issue with the fridge has now been corrected as a new fridge was installed shortly after your stay. With regards to the milk, we send a pre-arrival email containing your property code before arrival. On this email it also states that Town End Dairy will deliver milk to your property on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays, unless you phone them and ask them not to, their phone number is also provided on the email. We apologise if this wasn’t clear enough. We look forward to welcoming you back to Graythwaite in the future. Property Owner

"We were not sure who onsite was responsible for meeting and greeting and dealing with the problems."
The instruction book related to storage heaters, it was not until the second day, without heating, that we discovered they were just electric wall heaters, one of which in the main rooms was hanging off the wall and not working. We propped the heater up with a log till the handyman could secure it. We left instructions for what times we needed the heaters on, at what temperature in both the lounge and bedroom, but nothing happened. The kitchen and dining equipment was not well thought out , the teapot for two people was large enough for a family! Only one of the oven shelves fitted the width of the oven. A lack of small glasses was evident, orange juice in half pint glass was unsuitable. A shelf in the bathroom would be a distinct advantage. Maybe it would be useful from time to time for a member of your staff to spend a day and night in your cottages so that they would see and recognise what is good and more importantly what needs attention.
Thank you for leaving your review. We are sorry to hear that our property failed to meet your expectations. I can confirm that the heating instructions have since been updated in all our properties, with details on where the heating control panel is and how it works for each individual property. Other elements of your review have now been rectified in the kitchen including the oven shelves, and we are fitting a new kitchen in Can Brow Cottage this coming year. Property Owner

"Yes - we booked the holiday last minute and unfortunately didn't receive the email with the digit code for the key safe."
On arrival I was made aware I needed this and the number that was recorded wasn't answered. I had no signal to be able to receive emails - I'd been cycling for 41 miles and was tired and dirty and unable to gain access to the property. This was exacerbated by there not being anyone to speak to who could help. I could only get WiFi in the reception room and had to sit in there - make contact with people at home and they had to access the help line which was open until 8pm. The helpline were helpful and y mum was able to get the key code number which meant I could access the property. This situation could have been much worse and I had made plans to move to a nearby hotel for the night but which would have been at an additional cost. We were also not made aware that the gym facilities were at an additional cost and the pool was closed for a whole day for cleaning. Once into the property I was pleased with it. The TV was very temperamental and requires some attention.
Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear that you had such problems accessing the property after you long day cycling. It would certainly appear that the automated pre-arrival email was not sent out to you hence you having to contact other family to assist you. We now have a shop that is open on the Cottage Courtyard from 9am-12pm and 3pm-6pm and the shopkeepers are always happy to help out if there is ever an issue they can resolve. It is stated on the property listing, under the subheading ‘Summary’, that there is an additional cost to use the gym. We also apologise that the pool had to be closed for cleaning, but this only happens during changeover hours on a Friday (10am-3pm). Obviously the pool has to be closed whilst it is being checked and cleaned to comply with Health and Safety regulations. Property Owner

"Yes. There are creatures [live ones] in the roof space."
Reported it on the Monday, man came & put down some poison food - but either creatures didn't eat it or they are immune. They are still there, and it is a bit disconcerting listening to them scrabbling about up there! Also there is evidence of a wet patch on the ceiling to the left of the hearth, in the living room. Don't know if its current or an old problem that's been sorted. Electrical items immediately below it. The shower screen over the bath is poorly sealed against the bath and at least 8-10" too narrow. Shower spray seriously wets the bathroom floor. Dining chairs are about to fall apart. Overall though - great place to stay. Sorry to hear there's a crazy increase in price for same time next year. Been coming with family every year about the same time for about 12 yrs. Can't afford the increase for the future. John Endersby [Mrs Richards' father].
Thank your feedback and bringing these issues to our attention. We did have a rodent problem last year, but it has most certainly been resolved now, but apololgise it was somewhat disconcerting to hear them during your stay with us. You will be pleased to learn we now have new dining chairs in the property and Can Brown Cottage will be getting a new kitchen fitted next year. Property Owner

"This cottage requires some refurbishment."
eg 1 front door is difficult to open/close. 2 exterior requires painting. 3 the fan stays on longer than necessary in the bathroom when the light is switched off. 4 the emergency (fire?) light in the hall is too bright and cannot be switched off!
-
"A nice little cottage with everything for two - but let down by minor attention to detail, poor quality curtains, broken curtain hooks, cobwebby entrance."
-
"Lovely cottage, comfortable with a well kitted out kitchen."
Easy access & good facilities in the courtyard. Very, very warm!
-
"I have responded to the Graythwaite survey with some minor details."
Overall the experience was a good one. The setting and the facilities on the estate were excellent.
-
"Cosy cottage however the sealant around the bath was mouldy and the bath panel was discoloured."
There was a damp/musty smell as well. This was very disappointing. Only other slight issue was that the dishwasher left half the load dirty. Nice bedroom and kitchen/lounge and the grounds the cottage was set in were very pretty.
-
"Although only two people definitely need more crokery and cutlery to get through the day as used waiting in dish washer."
Better ways of drying damp towels. Access to a Hoover. Pool was great. Lady who exchanged broken toaster great. Flowers great. No staff available until Monday when we arrived on Friday. As toaster was broken when we arrived we wanted to tell someone straight away, but had to wait till Monday. Can Brow is a lovely cottage albeit small. The lights in the kitchen area under pelmet were not wired so didn't work bit dark for cooking. Overall we had a lovely time and enjoyed our stay. Positives outweighed any negatives.

"Down points: Two towels per person was two too little."
We missed a vacuumcleaner to clean the carpet midweeks. The Milk service is a little bit stupid: two bottles left on your porch at arrival is nice, but should be complimentary (free of charge), after I would have let them know if I wanted Milk. Now they just put two bottles on your doorstep every other day, unwanted. It irritated me because I dont wanna call to let them know I dont want Milk, that's the wrong way around: I will contact them if I DO WANT milk. Fietsenmaker: there was never anybody at the reception for questions, the door to the office was open..but nobody there (this was on numerous occasions in the week). These are the down points, but besides from that we had a lovely stay and the surroundings are excellent...especially for the dogs
