  • "The cottage is in need of a lick of paint in places as some rooms look very run down."

We also had problems with the shower as my partner and I were only able to have one hot shower each and then the shower was cold if you wanted to freshen up in the evening before heading out somewhere. The cottage is advertised as dog friendly but we could not find a hoover anywhere to keep the dog hair down.

  • "Positive - loads of room inside the cottage, swimming pool clean and great to use, loads of walks, good shop with nice staff."

Negative - no email with booking reference so we had to go to the shop to book swimming, people had already booked but did not show up so families miss out. Why can’t last booking be open so anyone can go. Need a few maps of walks from the cottages, and wish there was a pub to walk to, also needs smart televisions Apart from that great but we also had the weather which helped

  • "Cosy and very comfortable."

Lovely and warm when we opened the front door. Comfortable beds, lovely fluffy towels. Beautiful setting. Only little negative is we needed a couple more mugs and cutlery. Lovely lady in the shop. We would most definitely return.

  • "We stayed in the Forge and Bibby Lot on a family holiday."

Felt that Graythwaite had made very little special effort in providing a Corvid secure environment. When staying in Wales in July hand gel and antibacterial spray was provided together with guidance notes Cleanliness was not of a acceptable standard. The following are examples causing concern Dirty crockery and utensils in cupboards - garlic press with garlic still in, food on cutlery and glasses requiring washing before use On stripping beds on last day, no mattress protectors and stained mattresses in some instances Cobwebs Bibby Lot - curtains hanging off in bunk bedroom. Wood not provided for fire as stated in Information pack As a 4 star property it did not meet expectations.

  • "Everything was very clean and good."

However one of the reasons we booked this accommodation was the availability of the swimming pool. In this we feel we were mislead. We fully appreciate in hindsight that this is in relation to covid19. But in reading your bit about changes on being made due to covid19, with regard to towels, pillow cases, etc, perhaps it may have been an idea to fully upfront about all the facilities instead of getting us to book on false promises.

  • "Absolutely lovely cottage!"

Packed with everything needed! Only issue we had was it were very cold on the first night due to the storage heaters not being on long enough before our stay and with a baby it was a concern.

  • "The cottage & the grounds were beautiful."

We went through the week & we pretty much had the place to ourselves. The cottage had everything we needed & having the fore crackling through the evening was a really nice addition to the holiday. Our little Daughter enjoyed the pool (again, which we had to ourselves), the park & seeing all the wildlife around the grounds. Being on the opposite side of the lake to Windermere was a really good change. No traffic, no people. It was very nice & quiet. The on site shop is a great addition too. They sell meals from a local company & pretty much all the essentials needed so you don't have to drive to the next village to find these things. The bed was very comfortable. We would love to go back sometime & hopefully the weather would be better than it was.

Thank you for your lovely review. We are so pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay with us so much. We're looking forward to welcoming you back again in the future and this time we hope that you will get better weather! Property Owner

We all loved the pool and going for walks around the estate. The new on site shop is a great added bonus. We had a very relaxing break. Many thanks

  • "The estate was incredible , so beautiful and peaceful."

We had some wonderful walks. Forge cottage was perfect for a few days away. Fully equipped and cosy. The carpets were in need of cleaning or replacing as the bedroom one had dirty marks on it. The linen was clean and fresh. The cottage was perfectly situated for the pool house , which was super. The shower there was excellent and so hot. The pool was a little cool but a great addition to the stay and one of the main reasons we booked.

  • "We loved the location, accommodation and facilities."

We liked the ease of entry and exit with little for us to do. We had no interaction with Sykes other than the emails with information (all that was needed) and none with the hosts. So in this case everything met our expectations. We cannot judge further than that.

HAWKSHEAD

Ambleside 5.1 miles; Kendal 17.4 miles.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
