  • "The house was ready for us on arrival, and absorbed us all comfortably."

Ideal for walks from the house despite the hill back up, hee hee. The kitchen was well equipped, and the dining room table was ample for us, a pity the kitchen blind was broken when we arrived, but it didn't affect our stay as the view from the living room was fantastic. We would come again .

  • "Had a wonderful stay at Hillandale and house was very well equipped through out - very high tech kitchen."

We reported a couple of issues during the stay (shower door off runners and very loose loo seat in second bathroom) and within an hour the maintenance team arrived to sort everything which was excellent. We spent an hour or so every evening sat on the balcony with a glass of wine just taking in the views and tranquil setting of the area. A very enjoyable stay and will definitely return!!

  • "Great location that provided a great base and plenty of parking space, even for three cars."

The property is at the top of a steep hill that gives fantastic views. Just a couple of little things that we feel could be improved. These are 1. Completely soaps and shampoo's for both shower and basins (we know some people won't use, but it's nice to have the option). 2. Ensure that there is enough toilet rolls so that tennants don't have to buy some last minute. 3. Check the towels aren't stained (one of the hand towels we were provided was stained with makeup).

  • "What a great property in a fantastic location."

Town centre is just a short stroll away and more importantly if you like hiking you could not be in a better place with hikes on your doorstep and the mighty and majestic Helvellyn a short drive away. The property itself was clean, well equipped and the board games galore.

  • "Thank you to the owners of the property."

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Ambleside is a great place to be based on a walking holiday. The property was very clean and well maintained and the views from the lounge are great.

  • "Lack of storage space for food items in a self catering property is only downside-there are lots of kitchen units but with better use of the space there would at least be somewhere to put items out of the sunlight so they don’t perish so quickly in extreme heat as it was 2-16 June 2023."

Thank you very much for your comments and for taking the time to let us know your thoughts. The owner will review these and can action where possible. Heart of the Lakes Owner Relations Property Owner

  • "Thank you for providing such a wonderful place to stay in Ambleside."

The house is very well appointed, with everything and more that we needed, from kitchen equipment to children’s games. And of course the wonderful view, and being close enough to walk to either the quay or the town.

Thank you for your kind comments, we are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay, and the views! We hope to welcome you again. The Heart of the Lakes Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "Fantastic location, beautiful views and easy walk (as long as you’re prepared for a hill!"

) into town. Good to have parking. Very comfy beds. Kitchen well equipped as far as white goods concerned. Comments for improvement - would have liked an outside table on the balcony. There were no large glasses for water/ long drinks- lots of wine glasses/ flutes etc but only small fruit juice size glasses otherwise. There was also a lack of simple instructions for some of the white goods - struggled with microwave, washing machine, tumble dryer etc. Noticed evidence of damp in master bedroom - could do with a touch up of paint now. Overall though would be very happy to return - miss the view now we’re home.

  • "First time staying at this property although we have stayed with Heart of the Lakes for many years."

It has an amazing view and good parking with easy access to the town centre if you don’t mind a steep hill walk. Beds were comfortable. This could be a fantastic property but it is now feeling tired and in need of a deep clean. The basic cleaning had been done but it felt superficial. It needs attention to maintenance- when we arrived the shower room off the kitchen had a broken toilet roll holder laying on the side and the shower door was off its runners. Luckily my husband managed to fix the door since we arrived after office closing hours. Things like furry cushion covers were stained and looked tired. The property detail folder contains some out of date information. It would also benefit from some coat hooks since there is nowhere to hang wet clothing. Some of the radiators aren’t working. We had a good holiday and we will use Heart of the lakes again but considering the amount the holiday cost and the later arrival time to allow for cleaning I would have expected a higher standard of cleanliness and maintenance.

  • "Property was in a beautiful location with stunning views."

We were slightly disappointed with the garden which was in need on some attention, with overgrown plants which took up the majority of the small area. That was only disappointment we found with the property. When we arrived we were surprised to see a new kitchen had been fitted, with excellent appliances. Given the property had pretty much everything you needed it lacked basic things like coat hangers, one guest lived out their suitcase for the week. Property was clean on arrival, but as we moved furniture things had been cleaned around, for example old food under dining table, under the sofas, and long standing dust under one of the beds. The property was homely and we enjoyed our visit, we wanted to be honest with the feedback as these are simple things to rectify. These wouldn’t stop us rebooking the property again in the future.

  • "I would echo the views of other visitors who mentioned the lack of cupboard space for groceries."

Excessive amounts of crockery and glassware taking up valuable space. Much of the crockery should be disposed of as it is chipped - as was at least one of the glasses and this did scratch my husband’s lip when he used it. We left the glass out on the worktop to prevent further accidental use.

  • "Having stayed at Hillandale 2 years ago we knew it fitted our needs perfectly and it didn't disappoint this time."

It's a very comfortable property with everything you need, my only observation would be a few more tumbler type glasses to cater for the thirst quenching required on returning from a day out walking. We did see the owner on our first day and they brought a new frying pan and a large box of wine glasses for the already well stocked cupboards.

  • "Property location is excellent, great views and plenty of parking and only a 5 minute walk to central shops/restaurants etc."

The only criticism of the property itself would be there are is no cupboard space to store groceries-the cupboards and drawers are full of crockery, glasses, kitchenware etc-far more than is required for a property that only sleeps 5/6. If these items were rationalised space would be available which would in turn free up work top space to be able to prepare meals on.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
