  • "This is a lovely house, nice amount of space for two people."

Gargrave is nice and the property is suitably priced for its comfort and location. Walks along the canal were very nice. The Mason Arms does a nice pie and chips (£28 for two double G&Ts...). I would highly recommend staying here if the cleanliness/care for the property was given some more attention. It was disappointing to stay for a second time and not feel the property had been properly cleaned despite the late check in of 5pm. There was one dishwasher tablet left for the week that had presumably been left by the previous occupant as there wasn't any left for us the first time we stayed. No clothes washing liquid. There was less than a quarter of dish soap left. A used, dirty sponge. A wet cloth folded for use that had obviously been used to clean. It is exceptionally rare a holiday cottage does not provide small quantities of things like this to get you started. A great deal of cutlery, plates and mugs were marked/dirty from previous guests. We had to wash all the cutlery before use. The cupboards hadn't been checked to make sure everything was clearly organised, which it wasn't. We used the tumble dryer and it scorched our clothes. Upstairs 1 and under a half toilet rolls left for 2 people for a week was particularly tight. The same with cheap quality hand soap, less than a quarter left. No hand towel for the bathroom. There were dead flies and black damp on window ledges. Two of the downstairs lamps don't work/can't be plugged in so reading at night was a struggle. It is disappointing to have pictures of a roaring fire then prohibit use - despite the photos showing it clearly works. This property needs more care and generosity with basic necessities for paying holidaymakers.

The back door needs a new handle and the back bedroom blind was broken also the key safe was stiff and difficult to close , no outdoor seating we had to use the kitchen chairs while we were sat in the sun

  • "We feel you should remove your photo showing a lovely inviting warm glowing fire."

... which guests are not allowed to light. Broken arm on settee on arrival. Reported but no one came to repair it. Arrival and departure. During Covid I would fully understand and agree with early departure, late arrival and having to strip the beds, but not in 2024. Having travelled over 330 miles then not being allowed in till 5pm is rather excessive. Having said that, I would still 100% recommend this beautiful cottage. We had a wonderful stay. Well equipped kitchen, lovely quaint furniture, fixtures and fittings... just lovely.

Thanks for the feedback. All good points, I'll look into removing the picture as you mentioned. I'll talk to Sykes to arrange to change the entry time back to 3 p.m. I don't know why Sykes didn't do this automatically after covid. The settee is one of those where one arm goes down if you press a lever. I'll get this checked out. It may need a repair. Thanks again Property Owner

  • "I have already filled this in once."

It would be nice if when id is raining and cold to have a visial fire in the sitting room also a seat out the back for when it is sunny otherwise everything was fine it has a very well stocked kitchen

Thanks for your feedback. We do have a table and seats for the back area. I think these were in the pantry. I've asked the maintenance man to put these out. Property Owner

  • "Cosy property in a good location."

Well stocked kitchen area. Could have been clearer guidance on how to look after the property (did we need to strip beds, where were the bins and how to use etc).

The place was immaculate and pretty stylish too! All the appliances you could want. Local pub was great. Fantastic spot to explore the area - and what a picturesque little area it is. Would thoroughly recommend! Hope to be back again.

  • "The cottage had not been thoroughly cleaned, cobwebs in each room and hairs in bath plughole and extractor fan cover very dirty."

Also bottom of wardrobe inside full of fluff. Door locks need attention not easy to open and unable to open bedroom window

Thank you for your comments. We appreciate your review and take feedback very seriously. Had we been contacted during your stay, we would have acted immediately. We have since thoroughly cleaned the property and resolved the key lock issue. Also the bedroom window has been freed and will now open. We do hope you enjoyed your stay. Kind Regards Property Owner

  • "A well appointed property with all the requisite facilities, although no welcome pack, visitors book or guide to local attractions."

Two negatives were that the back door did not appear to open onto the patio area and the front door only opened with difficulty from the inside, a problem in the event of fire. No windows opened in the main bedroom having been painted in. Thus a lack of fresh air a drawback, especially in view of Covid. A note already left for the owner.

The back door key wasn't quite the correct size for the lock. IApologies for this. I have had more keys cut that are the correct size and work. Also the bedroom window has been freed and now opens. Thanks for your comments Property Owner
