  • "I was given information from Sykes on contacting the owner for the key code number for our stay."

The day before we contacted via the number only to find that the person on the end of the phone was in CYPRUS I was charged 65p as this was made outside my plan and I was unaware. She rang her mother to sort it out. Needless to say I am not happy. Please can things like this be ironed out. The window in the bedroom was twisted and could not close properly so we had a towel stuffed to stop the draft. There was no heating in that room. I have been advised that this has been addressed but not sure if anyone checks. Please could this be passed onto the owners of the Little Bower and make sure they are NOT OUT OF THE COUNTRY when visitors have been given this contact. It certainly taints my use of Sykes as a means of booking a cottage.

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your stay, especially as our previous guest gave us a perfect score. There are two numbers to call to allow for times when we may be out of the country or unable to answer. My daughter did her best to help you with directions. She asked me to call you to see if I could help you instead. It was tricky but we got there in the end! We were unaware that the bedroom heater wasn't working during your stay however there was a portable fan heater downstairs and the solid fuel stove usually warms the house up quickly in addition to the constant background heat. We would have been happy to assist, had you called us. With reference to the window, it had been damaged during a gale and required a specialist to fix it. He got there at his earliest free appointment & it was fixed shortly after you left. For future reference the team at Sykes are also available to help should you need assistance during any of your holidays booked through them Property Owner

  • "Nice cottage in a quiet but convenient location at the foot of the village of Hawes."

The lack of parking wasn’t an issue, there was plenty of free parking nearby and you could drive up to the cottage to load/unload. Facilities in the cottage were fine, nice bathroom, good shower, kitchen adequate. There are no outside facilities really, there is a bench to sit outside on but one of the residents parks their car in front of it, so we sat on the wall by the beck. Overall, a comfy cottage.

Thanks for your feedback, Vicki. Unfortunately we can't control where our neighbour parks. However, I'm glad you found parking in Hawes easy and the cottage comfy. Property Owner

  • "The entry to the property/key pick up is easy, and you walk in to the cottage to find everything you need."

The cottage is immaculate, and kitted out very nicely. It was cosy, warm, and had brilliant Internet connections, too. We never needed to speak to Olivia, the owner, as everything was perfect whilst we were there. Hawes is a beautiful village, set in some of the most beautiful countryside. Parking in Hawes is very good, so you won't need to worry about parking your own car nearby. There is a space, but it's quite rightly reserved for local residents. We had a terrific saty, in a clean, comfortable place, and found everything we needed nearby. We'll be returning.

Thank you for your feedback. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage, ideal for 2."

A little small as we took our dog but we only used this to sleep in and have breakfast as we walked everyday with our dog. Only criticism is no parking. There where 3 vehicles parked in the courtyard which never moved whilst we were there.

Thank you for your feedback. We don’t have a parking space at the property however as mentioned in the listing, there is plenty of on street parking close by. Property Owner

Lovely little cottage close to everything. No parking outside, but there is always somewhere to park close by which is free. Lovely walk up to hardraw and even better to find the Green Dragon open which was a bonus! Looking forward to the next time

No terrestial Tv unfortunately only wi fi streamed so take your passwords.Plenty of parking in Hawes but usually all full .However we did always manage to find somewhere. Most places are dog friendly and some nice walks from Hawes without needing to take the car.

Thank you for your feedback. Digital TV reception is unpredictable in Hawes however the TV has now been replaced. The new smart TV has in built freeview plus all the usual Apps. Property Owner

  • "Nicely modernised cottage, in a quiet location, just off the village centre."

Background heating by night storage heaters, supplemented by a wood-burning stove. A bag of fuel for the stove can be bought for less than £10 locally, which lasted the week, and kept the cottage warm in December. Plenty of street parking available in the village. Contact with owner easy and helpful.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and hope that you will return in the future. Property Owner

  • "Very convenient and comfortable place to stay, pretty much exactly as described in the listing."

Somewhere it is stated that the TVs are "smart". It might be worth pointing out that no device is supplied to interact with the WiFi, so the "smart" features (access to iPlayer etc) are only available if you bring your own computer or other device to link TV to WiFi/internet.

Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry you couldn’t get the tv to work. It is a smart tv which does link directly to the WiFi. We are only ever a phone call away to help with issues such as this. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay here, the cottage is lovely, situated in a perfect location for walks around Hawes, accessible on street parking and nearby shops and places to dine."

Small pointers, only 1 toilet roll for 4 days 3 nights so we had to purchase some. Milk cartons left are a year out of date. Salt and pepper pots provided were empty. We would stay again :)

Thank you for your feedback and we are delighted you enjoyed your stay. Our apologies that out of date milk was left for you - the dates are checked throughout the season. We’ve replenished the salt and pepper pots - thank you for bringing this to our attention. We look forward to seeing you again in the future. Property Owner

  • "This was our second holiday in the last 12 months at Little Bower."

We love it. The cottage is very comfortable, clean and cosy. It is ideal for a retired active couple such as ourselves. It is perfectly situated being just off the main street of Hawes and next to all facilities such as groceries etc. This is especially important to us as we do not own a car and travel to Hawes by train and then the excellent Little White Bus service fetching and taking us to the remote Garsdale train station at the start and end of our holiday. We were very impressed by how friendly, helpful and efficient the cottage owner's daughter was in sorting a problem with the water heating after our arrival. It was fixed by sorting the timer promptly the very next morning by their appointed tradesman. This was at no inconvenience to ourselves as, by arrangement the tradesman could access the cottage without us needing to be there. This was very helpful to us as we had planned to take the early bus to Leyburn for a day out and enjoyed a lovely day there. We have been holidaying at Hawes for over 30 years and for most of that time we came with our touring caravan and our 2 boys and stayed at the Brown Moor site. They are now in their late 30s and have their own families and we no longer have a caravan. We intend to come back twice each year and look forward to spending these breaks at the Little Bower.

  • "The property was perfect, better than expected."

Probably the cleanest self catering accommodation I have ever stayed in. It had all the facilities you would need, the log burner made it warm and cosy and with the addition of the wall heaters it ensured the cottage stayed warm whilst out. Very comfy bed and a good shower. The welcome basket was a nice touch. Excellent location as central, but most are in HAWES :) Nothing negative to say about this cottage.

About the location

HAWES

Leyburn 16 miles.

Hawes is a popular market town in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire and is regarded as one of the honeypot tourist attractions of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Standing between Buttertubs and Fleet Moss, the town is an excellent centre for walking and touring Wensleydale and the adjoining dales of Swaledale, Cotterdale, Dentdale, Garsdale, Wharfedale and Chapel-le-Dale. Take a walk around the Hawes Town Trail, Millennium Walk, Pennine Way or along the River Ure, which is nearby. In 1998 Hawes was awarded the English Tourist Board Silver Award for the "Best Day Trip Out". Modern traffic has long replaced coaches and horse drawn wagons along its narrow streets, but market day (Tuesdays) in Hawes is as busy as ever, with a farmers’ auction attracting sheep farmers from all over the north of England. Traditional shops, cafés and inns now cater for a variety of Dales visitors as well as the local community. The award-winning Wensleydale Creamery, made famous by the animated Wallace and Grommit films, is now open to visitors so that they can see the famous cheese being made and sample the end product in a welcoming café. In the old station yard you will find the busy National Park Centre and Dales Countryside Museum. The Museum is home to the magnificent collection of Dales artefacts by the two great Dales historians and writers, Marie Hartley and Joan Ingilby.

Please note this property has a Sykes managed good house keeping bond for £100.00 on all bookings taken after 30/10/2020.
