"For me not enough emphasis was made of the view in the description."
Sitting looking out of the window was mesmerising. The property was clean and tidy and had everything needed for a holiday. The only negatives were lack of clothes hanging space in the two twin rooms and low water pressure in shower but didn't spoil the holiday and would not stop me from booking again.

Great cottage just outside Grange easy to find very big & spacious everything you need back garden a little overgrown and very dark at night and gates to drive a bit hard to open in the morning would book again no problem ☺

"The house was very cosy and just what we needed for a week away."
Spectacular views.
-
"A beautiful, well laid out bungalow."
Everything in that we could wish for, we had a wonderful relaxing week.
-
"Great property."
Elevated situation with lovely views and within walking distance from train station and town centre although quite a climb back up to the property but worth it. Enclosed garden. Really well equipped. Loved the conservatory.
-
"Exceptionally clean and comfortable cottage with the most fabulous view."
This was or 2nd visit. Highly recommended. Yes the twin bedrooms are a bit on the small side but my 20 Yr old 6' son managed perfectly well for a week as did my 5'6" 16 Yr old daughter and her friend in the other. My daughter has recently had surgery on her knee and on crutches so the recliner chair in the lounge was a Godsend ! The tea coffee milk and biscuits were a very nice welcome this year. Thank you.

"Lovely property."
Clean, Large lounge and conservatory overlooking the bay. Two bathrooms both done to a high standard. Beds very comfortable. We had a great time. I could live there.

"What a gem,a beautiful cottage great location, well presented ."
Well equipped and very homely. Our dog loved being chased around the bungalow, very dog friendly. Very quiet idle to relax in. Great views over the bay, enjoyed the welcome snacks.had one small problem one telephone soon rectified. If you are looking for a quiet retreat close to beautiful countryside then this is the one for you.looking forward to our next visit.to the owners thankyou we had a great time

"Property is very spacious and well equipped with an enclosed garden for children and dogs to play."
The views of the bay are spectacular but being up a big hill it wouldn't be suitable for those with mobility problems unless they went everywhere by car. However we found it to be a good area for walking and we would like to return when the weather is better!
-
"We had a lovely stay, house is comfortable and roomy."
Everything we needed was provided. Kitchen was well equipped and had cupboard space for our food. We soon hardened up to the walk up the roads. The conservatory was a bonus, especially the view. Thanks

"Had a great stay in westwinds, bungalow was spotlessly clean, bed linen and towels were great quality."
Facilities and comfort were amazing. Had to contact Sykes over heating issue which was resolved immediately. Great quiet location, love to go back.

"It is a very steep hill to the property ---but the property is great"

"Overall, this was an excellent stay."
Lots of room, everything spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Fully equipped for a home-from-home holiday.
-
"Exceptionally clean and homely bungalow that was perfect for our short break."
Comfortable beds, hot showers and room for everyone to sit around the dinner table and in the lounge. Conservatory was a real bonus. Well equipped kitchen, where everything was very good quality, couldn’t ask for more in this well priced holiday home. Grange over Sands is a little gem in the Lake District. The walk from the bungalow to the town and promenade is up and down a hill so something to think about if you were going with little children/less able people as it’s up hill on the way home! Would definitely stay here again and will recommend it.

"Westwinds bungalow was lovely, clean and very airy in decor."
The beds and lounge furniture were very comfortable. Plenty of towels and pillows. The views of the sea were beautiful (although the budeija bush could do with pruning as it blocks the view). Just a couple of points, one very important. This bungalow is definitely not suitable for those with mobility issues or elderly and infirm. While the description mentions steps throughout, these are not the occasional step up or down into rooms but very deep steps. There are no toilets that can be accessed without going down three deep steps, and these also lead to the two main bedrooms. Also the third bedroom is tiny with two beds and very claustrophobic. It really should be a single. The hanging space for all three bedrooms is a single wardrobe in the main bedroom, just drawers otherwise in each bedroom. In the second bedroom one of the lamps has no socket to plug into which is strange. The hoover doesn't work and the tv is problematic. Some of these issues I noticed have been raised in the guest book. When all said and done this is a lovely holiday home if you have no mobility problems and the above points were tweaked.

"The property is really nice."
The only thing that could be improved is providing an iron /board. Everything else was there for us. We have been to other properties in the past & it's always helpful to find condiments that have been left from the previous people. We found that we had to buy a complete shop even though we were only there for 4 nights. I would still recommend this property for rent, but if you're not good with hills I will say that you don't walk into the town as it's very a steep hill on the way back!

"Very nice place, all amenities as stated."
Thanks Neil for the feedback re: TV and chair covers. We had a lovely stay in Westwinds. Very clean, lots of cutlery and crockery, pots and pans ( all used most days) beds were super comfy, and so glad of the Monopoly set on Mondays rainy day! 8yr old granddaughter was beating out her elders! We've had to buy a set for home now.

"A lovely place for a family with older children to stay, comfortable and clean."
Probably not somewhere for a family with toddlers or anyone with mobility issues as there were steps in the hall that led down to the bedrooms and bathroom as well as steps down to the garden and a step down to the conservatory. The second bedroom with twins beds was also very small and, although fine for children, it would be cramped for two adults. On arrival, it was clean. However, there were wet towels left in the washing machine and nowhere to dry them on a rainy weekend. I have no idea how long they had been there as they smelt mouldy and, on pulling them out of the washer, they did have some mould on them. These really should have been taken by the cleaning staff (who presumably didn’t know they were there) so the washing machine was free if needed. Most of the accommodation was good but the TV screen was badly smashed in the corner so, although it was watchable, it was a bit annoying as some of the screen was not visible. The previous occupants had mentioned it in the visitors book so it had obviously been broken for at least a week if not far longer. Although it did not spoil the holiday, it is not really in the same league as a broken mug and should have been mentioned to us at the very least. We did avoid booking a different cottage that weekend because it didn’t have a TV! My main concern is that I tried to contact Sykes to inform them, but realised that it is actually hard to find an email address where you can get a response. Eventually, I contacted the customer relations email but still have not received a reply. It did make me question the level of out of hours support available had there been a more urgent problem such as a problem with the oven, fire or even the key safe to gain entry! The phone number (listed for landlords) was for during office hours, there was no option to ring or email on my account page linked to my booking and no contact listed in the welcome information. This has affected my likelihood of rebooking as I do think it is important that there is an out of hours contact available should it be needed, although I obviously wouldn’t have used this to report the TV. Other than that, the booking process was easy and I liked the key safe and communication before the stay. I’d recommend a walk along the promenade where there is crazy golf, mini golf, tennis and a cafe. Also, you can take a trip from Grange over Sands station to the aquarium where there is also a steam train and/or steamers to take you across Windermere. Unfortunately, the aquarium’s not dog friendly but the boats and train are. Combined tickets can be bought. For dog friendly places to eat, Cartmel has some lovely pubs and eating places and is only a five minute drive from the cottage. All in all, I would recommend the location - the views were fantastic and it was comfortable. I just hope Sykes take on board the feedback, as at the moment I wouldn’t like to be in one of their cottages on an evening if there was a problem such as a leak that would require urgent attention!

"A lovely property with great views over Morcambe Bay."
It is in a quiet location on the edge of Grange-over-Sands and up a steep hill so a car is essential for most guests. The property is well equipped, very clean and spacious. We would highly recommend it. The description does say that there are steps throughout the property and the 3 steps to the bathrooms and bedrooms may make it unsuitable for guests with some mobility issues (of which I am one).

"Had a glorious week at Westwinds."
Listing and photos are accurate. Yes it's up a steep hill but that's the price you pay for that awesome view. We drove down to car park each morning to walk the dog. £1.40 for the day. It gets busy later in the day though. Property was clean, spacious and comfortable. Well equipped kitchen. Great wifi. We feel thoroughly rested and relaxed after our stay.
Thank you for your comments, it is lovely to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Westwinds, and that the property was clean and comfortable. We hope to welcome you back. The Lakes Cottage Holidays Owner Relations Team Property Owner

"Could probably do with some maintenance to the outside of the property eg."
bins, window cleaning, carport etc. Also, one of the bedrooms would only be suitable for 2 small children. The lounge and conservatory were lovely and the showers good. Very steep hill to get there so not suitable for anyone with mobility problems wishing not to use the car. Otherwise enjoyable stay.
Thank you for your comments, we are pleased to hear that you had an enjoyable stay. We take all comments on board. Thank you. Property Owner

"A lovely property, spotlessly clean and in a very quiet area."
I would recommend it to anyone who is very good on their legs, we had a lovely stay, but it is situated on a very steep hill and would not suit everyone.
-
"A delightfully comfy house, with super views & in a very quite location."
Well equipped kitchen. Lots of very interesting local/historical information & maps.
-
"Comfortable stay in Westwinds."
There was a strange aroma when we arrived, maybe a doggy smell. Bought some air freshener and it was OK. The kitchen is a bit tired and the shower poor pressure but otherwise everything worked and was fine.
-
"Excellent accommodation to a high standard and spotlessly clean."
Great location with good views. Only drawbacks were that it too hot(!!) and the twin rooms are small for adults in the party.
-
"Great cottage, in fantastic location for the lakes."
Only issue we had was as it was a warm week for October the heating seemed to be on a timer and set to 22 degrees both morning and evening and couldn't work out how to stop it coming on. Fantastic views from the conservatory and kitchen, really comfortable and had everything needed for a week away.
Thank you for this great feedback. Apologies for overheating you certainly not something I want to do with current energy prices! The heating is controlled by a Hive system and there is a thermostat just outside the kitchen door. The instructions should be on the ledge opposite. Too late now but I can also control the Hive system remotely so can change the settings if required (It is now set to 20 degrees morning and evening). Thanks Nigel Property Owner

"Excellent property very comfortable extremely clean , good quality bedding and towels, we couldn’t have wished for better and the view from the lounge was breathtaking, the painting above the fireplace echoes the view brilliant, Grange over Sands is a lovely base for exploring the area, fantastic local shopping ie butchers and bakers ."
-
"Lovely bungalow, ideally situated for the Southern Lakes and Morecambe Bay area."
Grange is nice, adjacent Cartmel even better. Might be prudent to describe steep access roads, to property, and steps within property?
-
"Really pleased with the facilities, clean & tidy."
Nice property, spacious, good views over the bay & situated close to the Lake District. Good value.
-
"Lovely setting and area with great views, lots of places to visit and look around, with not a great deal of traveling, and the roads are really easy to navigate."
The accommodation we chose was A1, all that you need for a trouble free and comfortable holiday. A nice cosy and really well looked after bungalow, would definitely recommend.

About the location
GRANGE-OVER-SANDS
Cartmel 2 miles; Lake Windermere 8 miles; Kendal 10 miles.
The charming Edwardian resort of Grange-over-Sands is set between the Lake District fells and Morecambe Bay and offers one of the mildest climates in the north of England. Formerly a small fishing village, the introduction of the Furness Railway transformed Grange-over-Sands into a fashionable Edwardian resort. Today, the town has much to offer the visitor including a traffic-free promenade, delightful ornamental gardens, golf courses, brass band concerts and excellent bird watching. Just a short drive away are Lake Windermere (8 miles), the villages of Bowness-on-Windermere and Hawkshead, which still retain the charm and character that has endeared them to so many, and the home of sticky toffee pudding, Cartmel, with its famous racecourse and the L’Enclume restaurant, which has been voted the 4th best restaurant in the UK. Other attractions in the area include Levens Hall, with its Elizabethan Hall and world famous topiary gardens, Holker Hall, Furness Abbey, Sizergh Castle, a National Trust medieval house and gardens, and Conishead Priory, a Gothic revival country house. There is also the 25 mile Cistercian Way which starts at Grange over Sands.
