  • "A lovely place to stay."

A really lovely cottage with all you need. Only gripe we had was where to dry our swimming gear, but we coped. Had a beautiful week here.

  • "Field Foot Cottage is quite simply beautiful."

We had the most comfortable stay in the heart of the village. We will definitely return again.

  • "Lovely little cottage right in the centre of Grasmere."

Well equipped and ideal for a party of 5. The bed setup is not ideal if you were a party of 6 as the daybed is on the top floor with a double. The parking is tight and you would struggle with a large car. Medium or small cars fit fine. The only issue we had was that when we arrived the heating was set to 15c so the whole place was freezing. It took a few hours to warm it up and we had to light the fire and sit in fleeces and blankets. All other properties we have stayed at have been warm when we arrive which makes a big difference. I would recommend that you set the heating higher to make it cosy for when guests arrive.

  • "Disappointed that scaffolding was erected at the property on the 3rd day which meant we had to keep the curtains shut all day and had to endure the builders and roofers on site level with bedroom windows."

Next door was also undergoing renovations which meant drilling and construction work from 08:30 in the morning. Dissatisfied that this could have been done when the property was unoccupied.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry for any inconvenience the scaffolding caused you, this was a result of emergency essential works and was completed the same week. Property Owner

  • "The listing needs to be very explicit about the parking arrangements, a small car may fit in the "garage", but a larger SUV or as in our case a van will not."

We parked across the garage, partially blocking the builders next door, who were generally OK with things, but it left us feeling concerned whether other cars could get by, especially when we were out. The laundry smelt of stale cigarette smoke, the sheets and towels, which was disappointing to say the least.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear of the issues you had raised, we would have been more than happy to assist during your stay if you had contacted us. Thank you for your comments. Property Owner

The location in the village is perfect; 100m (or less) to the pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops. The decor and furniture is all period; and all fits in well with the cottage. Plus a little garage for the car. We would love to return in the future.

Thank you so much for your feedback, we would love to welcome you back. Property Owner

  • "This is a pretty cottage in a perfect location in a village we know very well and have visited regularly since the 1970s, but renters should be aware it is really a family home and not well set up for rental."

The well-appointed kitchen contrasts with not-so-modern bathrooms; the house is not so much characterful as just rather cluttered, and was not as clean as it should have been. Outdoor space is not “private” as the listing states, and is minimal, though in normal Lake District weather that may not matter! But we took a 4-year-old and a 1-year-old and the inside and outside space were not ideal. It is also billed as for six people but one of these is in a day-bed in an open plan floor shared with a double, so not really suitable for six adults.

Was a bit cold downstairs until the heating got going. Very cosy with the fire lit. Would benefit from a dryer but the heated clothes stand was good for drying clothes.

  • "Although we are regular visitors to Grasmere and have stayed at other cottages or hotels, this was our first visit to Field Foot Cottage."

We chose this cottage because we had our dog with us on this occasion. The cottage is not easy to find as it is hidden away in a side lane by the Lakes Art Shop near the Co-Op store. It is, however, central and in a quiet location. As other reviewers have said, there is a covered parking space for 1 car behind the cottage, but the space is tight and it takes some manouvering to get the car in. The cottage itself met all our needs. The kitchen is a reasonable size with good facilities; excellent range of utensils, effective cooker, dishwasher and washing machine. The living room is small but cosy and with good maps / books for local walks. We used the bedroom in the attic conversion with a large space, comfortable bed and good en suite. However, the staircase from the first floor to the attic conversion was steep and may be an issue for those less certain on their feet. The central heating was effective, although we often had to override the programmed temperatures. We were disappointed that there was no handwash provided and only one toilet roll per bathroom. Fortunately, we had brought our own which was just as well as the Co-Op store had run out of stocks in the current climate. Also, we were unable to find an Information Booklet in the property. This meant that we got to use the central heating, cooker, washing machine and dishwasher through trial and error which is not ideal. Also although not an issue for us, first time visitors to Grasmere would appreciate information / recommendations on local restaurants / tea rooms etc Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return again

  • "The cottage is so conveniently situated in the village of Grasmere."

There are walks from the village itself so after a longish journey up it was good to be able to leave the car behind the next day. There are lots of places to eat within 5 minutes of the cottage. The cottage is very well equipped and is roomy yet cosy.

  • "Lovely cottage in a great location."

Large and very comfortable king size beds. The first floor has a double and single room. The top floor is all open plan with a king size and single bed which has also a pull out bed, so not ideal if privacy is required. The kitchen is well stocked with appliances and all the utensils required. Cosy and comfortable living room with a small smart tv which has Netflix. Good for dogs as it’s off the main road and straight onto a footpath that leads to the field. Very small area at front and back for sitting out. Overall we really enjoyed staying in this cottage and would definitely return.

  • "A roomy cottage and very centrally placed."

Perfect for those first doggy walks with easy access to the river. Top floor en suite bedroom has very steep, narrow staircase and the type of floor covering on the stairs throughout can be a bit slippy so a little caution required. Access to the heating thermostat is in the lounge and easy to boost heat when chilly. There is only parking for one small car and the driveway in is tight but with a Corsa we had no problem. We used the long stay parking for the other (larger) car and split the cost. Few things in the world are perfect but the four of us in our 60's thought the cottage was just fine. All things considered, we had a great week and would book this one again.

  • "Comfortable cottage in the centre of Grasmere, Good quality furniture and bedding but a TV in the Living Room would be preferable than the second floor bedroom, The oven and hob require a deep clean or replacement."

The supply of fuel for the open fire was appreciated and plentiful. One potential big problem for clients is the size of the garage/parking space, we used a VW Polo and found we could only open one door inside the garage, anyone with a car much larger will have a problem.

  • "I was not very happy at the time of booking the reservation with Sykes which I initially done on line - then within 24hrs ( in fact was the same day ) I had to phoned back as I had booked the wrong week a misunderstanding within the family - instead of the 8th Sept, I booked the 15th Sept ."

Due to this error I found that I had to pay a further £100.00 for that week which I thought was a bit steep then to be told that I had to pay a further £30.00 administration fee which I could not believe but unable to cancel the reservation I had to be penalised by paying the £130.00. Surely by pressing a few keys on a computer and changing the week does not cost £30.00 plus the possible cut you get from the £100.00 . So you can understand by making a small error it became a VERY expensive holiday. As far as 1 Field Foot Cottage we was pleasantly pleased the way the cottage had been renovated and set out and with many nice ideas and nicely situated in Grasmere. Things which I would like to mention for further reservations are:-1/ Why situate the TV in the bedroom - ok I was able to find the fittings etc.in the lounge and find suitable furniture to mount it on but thinking if somebody was not able to do this, who would want to sit on the second floor watching TV all night. 2/ We as a family with the dog always have our meals within the cottages we stay at but my wife was rather disgusted at the state of the oven - it certainly could do with a "good" clean (that's inside) OR a replacement. 3/ Finally I would be a bit concerned with the heating during the winter months - with our visit it was JUST passable with the radiators just getting warm ( not hot) enough and some extra clothing . I know its a lovely old building and you can't get away from the problem of drafts from doors and windows I do understand. 4/ Plus my wife has just mentioned that she would have liked better lighting in the kitchen. Thou I have mention these points we generally liked the reservation as it had many good points which shouldn't be looked over.
