  • "This is a wonderful place to stay in the Lakes."

The house itself is of an excellent standard: modern facilities, high standard of decor, extremely warm and comfortable and in a good situation for visiting the Windermere area. We loved our stay here and would only mention a few very minor points: in contrast to the high standard of everything else in the property the three chipped mugs in the kitchen cupboard were unexpected and in both bathrooms although there is the written message about not taking the soap away and leaving for other guests, there was no soap at all. Also it would be helpful to have some sort of shower stand to put your toiletries on. It was unfortunate that, due to no fault of the owners of course, that there had been a fire which closed the shop. This must be very convenient when open. An excellent property and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

  • "We had a great time."

The cottage was in great conditions and really clean. Lots of space to park. They left us a bag with biscuits, jam, tea and coffee.

  • "Lovely, spotless, spacious cottage in a fab, quiet location."

The tea, biscuits & local ground coffee were a lovely touch. We loved our stay - thank you. Only suggestion I have to make is that it would've been lovely to have had some logs in the basket by the fire after a long journey and on a cold, dark and wintery night.

Thank you for your feedback following your recent stay at Eel House Cottage.Unfortunately, properties no longer get logs provided. An honesty box system was in operation, and our sawmill was replenishing stocks, however we were finding that guests weren’t being honest, and therefore we made the decision to remove all logs. Guests are able to pre-order logs through our farm shop ordering system so that they have them prior to arrival, or alternatively they can go to the farm shop themselves to purchase logs. • "This is a beautiful property in a wonderful location and fantastic for the dogs with its large secure garden."

Just one suggestion that would make life a little easier maybe provide a hose and an outside tap to hose the dogs off after a long walk, essential for winter walks. The cottage was warm with a wonderful log burner (bliss after a lo g day walking) and very clean and it had everything you needed for a great stay. We would definately book again. Thank you for providing a wonderful stay

About the location

HAWKSHEAD

Ambleside 5.1 miles; Kendal 17.4 miles.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
