"Gorgeous little cottage."
Couldn’t fault it. Would love to return.

"Best cottage in the lakes who ever loves hiking around the Langdales."
There's something surreal about going out to hike in the morning, coming back in the afternoon for a nap and then heading back out again for the evening. There is no Internet, but honestly that's almost a bonus here, earlier bedtime for earlier hiking. The only thing I would suggest is adding a mirror downstairs somewhere, to be able to have a look before leaving the cottage.

"What a find!"
Perfect location for walking and for the best pub on the planet. The kitchen had everything we needed and the cottage was very comfortable for two.

"New mattress in main bedroom as could feel the springs."

"We had a lovely week at Middle Fell Farm Cottage."
It was very comfortable and well equipped and was set in a stunning valley with lots of walks from the door. The weather was kind to us, and the local sparrows were very tame and a joy to watch while we were sitting outside. We didn't want to leave at the end of our week. We did find it hard to plan fell walks without WiFi, so that would be a welcome addition, but there is WiFi at the ODG hotel next door so this wasn't disastrous.

"We very much enjoyed our stay at the cottage."
As a couple, the size suited us fine. Comfortable with everything we needed. The cottage has a good heating system and an open coal fire (coal and logs supplied) gives that nostalgic and homely feeling on cooler evenings. Perfect location for hiking the Langdales. Old Dungeon Ghyll pub/hotel with good pub-grub food (and wifi) just 200 metres away...and another two pub/hotels just 1 km down the road.

"Another great stay at Middlefell , lovely cottage with nearby pub , got some excellent walking in , highly recommended"
-
"This is a comfortable, quiet property."
No good if you don't like isolation or not having Wi Fi or phone signal. No light pollution. Look out at night and you just see darkness! Ideal for walking the hills, or climbing the crags straight from the door. The ODG, nearby, is a quirky old fashioned Inn, well worth visiting. It has free Wi Fi, so if you want to catch up go for a beer. The cottage sleeps 4, but more comfortable with two adults. Watch your head in the kitchen.! Equipment good and the owners, who farm and live next door, friendly and helpful.

"This is a cosy cottage in an excellent location."
Many walks direct from the door and a pub next door - what more could anyone want! The cottage has everything you need. My husband did find the step and the low beam in the kitchen a bit of a problem but maybe another time we should stay longer and he would get used to it!

Lakeland hills right from the door, couldn't ask for more!

"This wasnt our first visit to this lovely cottage , and will definitely wont be our last either."
Very friendly owners. Lovely location with many walks from the door. Pub nearby. Secure parking. Nice and clean. Plenty of coal and wood for the real fire if required. Highly recommended.

"I love this little cottage."
It really is in the most superb location if you love the Lakes and especially Langdale as i do. It is very clean and well equipped with my essential for any cottage in the Lakes, an open fire. This one is so easy to light and maintain and the draw suck’s your slippers off. Perfect after a rainy fell walk. No wifi but I consider that a plus these days. I have no hesitation in recommending this cottage, and i hope to be back very soon.

"A lovely cottage in a great location on a working farm with very relaxed and welcoming hosts."
Kitchen is spacious and very well equipped, bedrooms are spacious with comfy beds, and a cosy lounge with open fire - and a drying cupboard for boots and clothes! There are plenty of varied trails right on the doorstep from pleasant loops to Little Langdale to big hikes to Scafell Pike.
Thank you for your lovely feedback. We would love to see you back again in the future Property Owner

"A lovely cottage in a beautiful location."
Been several times and would not hesitate to visit again. Everything in the cottage was clean with a lovely open fire with plenty of logs and coal which was great because it was wet and cold during our visit.

"Everything we needed for a relaxing break."
Stunning views from farm. Cosy, comfortable, well equipped cottage, with bonus of a real fire. A privilege to stay at this working farm. Hard working family cracking on with their tasks as we enjoyed this rare treat of a place. Many thanks Mr Toms. Hope to stay again soon.

"Absolutely beautiful spot."
Lovely cottage, perfect home from home and for a total get away. I shall definitely be re-booking as soon as possible.

"The cottage is beautiful and very comfortable."
The setting is stunning. There were some very nice touches such as the planters by the door and the view of the pikes through the bathroom skylight from the shower cubicle. We would love to return.

"The rural setting of the cottage, close to a fantastic pub and superb walks"
-
"A very special cottage in a wonderful, peaceful location."
Fabulous walking with Chapel Stile and Ambleside near for supplies. Friendly and helpful hosts. Just perfect.

"Absolutely charming cottage in a perfect location."
The cottage was fully stocked with key essentials. The bed was extremely comfortable. A testament to the popularity of this cottage is the number of repeat bookings you can see from the visitor's book.

The property
This traditional, stone-built Lakeland farmhouse lies quaintly under the Langdale Pikes at the head of the Langdale Valley in a rural part of the Lake District.
Middlefell Farm Cottage was created from part of the original farmhouse to provide a well-equipped cottage interior for families looking to breakaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and relax amongst this peaceful location.
As soon as you arrive, take a moment to appreciate the idyllic surroundings that makes up some of the finest mountain scenery in the Lakeland.
The sitting room will welcome your return after a day of walking the fells, furnished with two sofas, a TV and an electric fire to take comfort beside.
When you’re not dining out at fine restaurant, the kitchen is appointed with all the necessary appliances to serve up a tasty feast, which can be enjoyed at the dining table.
At the end of each action-packed day, seek comfort in either of two bedrooms, comprised of a double and a twin, each offering soft furnishings in a neutral décor and served by the family bathroom with a walk-in shower.
Head out to the garden furniture and enjoy your morning coffee whilst you plan for the day ahead before taking a gentle stroll along one of the nearby footpaths for the perfect start to the day.
On your journey you may stumble across the pub 'The Old Dungeon Ghyll', which serves both bar and restaurant meals and is ideal if you fancy a night off cooking.
Being surrounded by such inspiring scenery, it is hard to image why you would need to travel anywhere else, but if you do, Ambleside is five miles away and is where you can find your nearest supermarket, along with a choice of gift shops, small retailers, two cinemas and plenty of pubs and restaurants to enjoy.
Bowness-on-Windermere awaits further afield, home to the popular World of Beatrix Potter and the starting point for the iconic steamers, which take you across the water to Lakeside, home to a number of family attractions.
Guaranteed a pleasant stay wherever you decide, Middlefell Farm Cottage has everything needed for a memorable Lake District break.
Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
Where you’ll be staying
AMBLESIDE
Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
