  • "This was a fabulous week in a beautifully restored cottage in Grizedale with its lovely walks all on the doorstep."

No need for the car and the brilliant food at cafe Ambio a brief walk away too. The owner should be proud of all the work he has done on the house and frankly we wanted for nothing. Of course the weather helped but we walked many miles each day. Hawks head is a must for a visit and lunch at the Queens Head. Our spaniel had the time of his life. Thank you so much. Derek and Gail

  • "Had a fabulous stay at Yamthwaite."

Cottage was super clean, very comfortable and has all the mod cons. Very quietly situated down a private road with the forest on your doorstep. Lots of walks straight from the house. Would not hesitate in booking here again.

  • "The property was just as described, very comfortable, all mod cons and beautiful surroundings."

Would highly recommend! One suggestion would be to leave instruction manuals for tv and cooker.

  • "The house is located in an incredibly quiet spot, yet only a few hundred yards from the main road."

Yamthwaite was very much a home from home for the two of us and the dog for our short break, and was very well equipped throughout. It's clear the owner wants people to feel relaxed there, and they absolutely achieved this. The weather wasn't too kind to us on our visit, but we hope to return at some point in the not too distant future to sit in the garden with a glass of wine listening to a wonderful silence punctuated only by bird song.

I am really pleased that you enjoyed your stay and appreciate your kind words, sharing your feedback is very important and hopefully will encourage others to visit. It's also incredibly humbling to know that my guests appreciate all the hard work I have put in over the last 3 years in creating a warm home from home feel. Thank you so much and I hope that the weather will be kinder on your return visit. John Property Owner

  • "Lovely well equipped accommodation in super secluded location."

Dog friendly provided your dog isn’t a wondering type as no front gate although very little through traffic.

Thank you for your wonderful feedback. I am incredibly pleased that you enjoyed your stay and hope that you will return one day as there's so much more to explore. John & The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "My husband and I and dog Ginny had the most amazing stay at your beautifully restored home."

It’s been renovated to a high standard using natural material which blends in perfectly with it surroundings. Your attention to detail really gives this property a home from home feeling. We particularly enjoyed relaxing after long walks and days visiting the numerous lakes in your garden listening to the birds singing over a glass of wine. The position of this property is ideal, walks on your doorstep but, also a lovely village Hawkshead a 5min drive away which has lots of amenities including pubs, restaurants and shops. We can’t wait to return and are already looking at dates. Thank you so much for sharing your fabulous home, we highly recommend to anybody who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle and chilli but, still have the stunning Lake District on your doorstep.

You could not imagine how incredibly grateful I am for your wonderfully perfect feedback! And from my first ever guests too! it has put tears in my eyes. After years of putting my heart and soul into the project, using it to rehabilitate/retrain after a motorbike accident it has quite literally saved my life, needless to say after such an emotional rollercoaster to have you appreciate my effort and creativity to make Yamthwaite a home from home is... pure bliss! Thank you so much and I hope that you will return soon. John Property Owner

About the location

HAWKSHEAD

Ambleside 5.1 miles; Kendal 17.4 miles.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year. A short distance beyond Hawkshead and towards the Windermere Ferry is the village of Near Sawrey, and “Hill Top” (now owned and run by the National Trust), home of Beatrix Potter which features many of the illustrations in her books. Newby Bridge and Lakeside are a short distance to the south and offer attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes, Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside plus the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway and Haverthwaite Motor Museum. Lake windermere offers ample watersports facilities, boat tours, and there are a great many walks throughout the Lake District National Park, including those at Scafell Pike and The Old Man of Coniston, and there are many opportunities for birdwatching, mountain biking, and wild swimming.
