"Hello it was how our first time staying at harbourside house and it was very nice and enjoyable."
The weather was kind to us no rain plenty of walks on the beach and our our dog Harry loved it , I’m sure we will revisit next year as we visit Haverigg once a year .
-
"We’ve stayed in most of the cottages in Haverigg particularly the front for the past 20 years."
This is now without doubt in our top 2. The house was beyond spotless and had everything we needed. Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
-
"We so enjoyed our stay that we wanted to book the house again for the same time next year but your system wont let us!"
How can we rebook please?
-
"Everything was perfect, lovely location, very well equipped, lovely comfortable beds, cannot fault it."
My only regret is I should have realised there was no enclosed yard or garden for my dogs, so when they needed a comfort break they had to be accompanied on lead, BUT area to let them off was close by, and glorious beach walks. That was my error, but dog owners should be aware.
-
"Loved the view."
The beds were extremely comfortable.
-
"We absolutely loved our stay at Harbourside house , the views were spectacular, the house had everything we needed the only little thing was there wasn’t a shower mat in the upstairs bathroom and the bath was a bit slippery."
Would recommend to all our family and friends and will definitely be back .
-
"Everything was great, lovely stay, thank you."
-
"Lovely clean, comfy, superbly situated cottage right on the estuary of a fast flowing river."
Would need to keep a very close eye on little ones. Great beach for walking the dog two minutes from the house. Good restaurants , takeaways and pubs, several dog-friendly, round about. A lovely break was had by all.
-
"Loved our week in harbourside cottage, one of a few places we would love to come back to again."
Haverigg is a small seaside town with everything you need - a shop, couple of pubs, great chippy, beach cafe , ice cream chalet and ski bar If you like quiet, unspoilt, natural beaches, birdwatching from the conservatory it’s unbeatable. Everyone was really welcoming and very dog friendly
-
"Will be booking again sue the host was great left us tea, coffe, milk biscuits, and a bottle of wine"
-
"We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage."
My elderly mother really appreciated having a double bedroom and walk in shower on the ground floor. The only recommendation we would suggest is to install a proper gripable hand rail on the stairs as we had to be with her going up and down as she couldn't hold onto the existing flat wood rail very well and was nervous.
-
"I have left a message in owners guest book but basically a great place to stay with our dogs and if you have a small car parking in front of the house is easy and there are some spaces potentially available aswell."

Lovely accommodation, virtually on beach, good hostelry locally with reasonably priced menu, convenient shop and chip shop, supermarket within easy reach
-
"Haverigg a great little community and accommodation ideally situated Views of the estuary from the conservatory are really superb."
Everything was great . The only suggestion is to include a picture of the rear entrance and parking area so is a bit clearer for the initial arrival.

"We really enjoyed our stay the home was just what we expected great location to ..."
We really enjoyed our stay the home was just what we expected great location to get to the Lake District the village was quiet would recommend the king William 3 local pub , there was more than enough room for our family off 5 , thank you for the gifts of wine milk and dog treats
-
"What a amazing place accommodation 10/10 comfortable and well maintained."
we enjoyed the wonderful views from the conservatory andthe added touches of the wine and other treats will not hesitate to recommend to friends. andwill definitely return a big thank you to the owners . for making our week so special
-
"Had a fantastic stay at Harbourside House and will definitely go back!"
Chose this place as it had a conservatory and was glad we did as the weather was mixed to say the least…many happy evenings spent watching the birds and the coastal scenery..
-
"A very clean light and comfortable and easy cottage to be in."
Might get quite hot in the summer ? But was lovely and light and warm for us because of the big windows. Very easy place to be with the dogs too as hard floors and quick access to the beach. Fun watching the tide come in snd out in the Haverigg Pool. Sound and sight of the Eider ducks was grand!
-
"Stayed again with family at my favourite house and view in Cumbria."
The house is just as the photos describe. Thank you also for allowing our pet. Hope to visit again in autumn.
-
"Love this house and the view but can only afford to stay in Winter."
-
"We arrived at the property to find a dirty, jaded holiday home crying out for a touch of tlc."
Crumbs and dog hair everywhere, sticky filthy bannister that considering the covid existence you wouldn't want to touch. The whole place needs a complete makeover to freshen it up.

Lovely stay at harbourside house nice comfortable modern well equipped house with amazing views and fantastic costal walks on the doorstep very friendly locals good chippy and londis store two minutes away well worth a stay graham

"Not been to the lake district before and greatly enjoyed our stay."
We like being beside the coast as well as having easy access to the national park. The accommodation is comfortable, however, it could do with a lick of paint particularly the ground floor. Otherwise would have been 5 stars. Other thing is that there is a mobile pizza cart at the beach behind the cottage on Fridays only. It would be good to mention this to people as its a easy first meal after a drive.
-
"Harbourside is a lovely cottage with fantastic views and great location."
Haverigg is a real gem - sea, sand, wildlife and only a few tourists!. There were 5 people and 2 dogs in our party - the cottage had plenty of room. All the facilities we needed were there, and the welcome pack was a lovely touch. It was particularly hot during our stay - the fan in the living room was very welcome. Small suggestion- more ability to sit out the front next to the river would be great.
Thank you for your kind feedback. I'm really glad you enjoyed your stay and discovered the hidden gem of Haverigg. I take on board your suggestion, thank you. There is the bench and extra folding chairs, but I'll see if more seats can be securely placed. Property Owner

"Nice house with everything you need, good quality bedding, towels, furniture etc."
Was a good base to visit Coniston, Windermere and other Lake District areas. The beach was on the doorstep which my grandaughter loved.
I'm pleased you enjoyed your time in Harbourside House and the surrounding area. Property Owner

"Had a lovely week."
Cottage was so nice . Comfortable and well equipped. Ready to book again
That's great ! And we'd be pleased to welcome you again ! Property Owner
-
"A little smaller than we expected particularly in the living/dining area."
Cleaning could definitely be upgraded (sticky surfaces) but bedrooms were comfortable enough. Great location for beach and lagoon walks but the village itself is a bit tired and rundown.
-
"This is a lovely cottage to stay in."
Fully equipped with every thing you need for your stay. Lots of great walks in the area which our 2 dogs absolutely loved. There are a few little maintenance issues in the cottage that need attention but nothing that spoiled our restful relaxing stay here.
-
"This was our fourth time in this property in two years……surely that speaks for itself!"
-
"An excellent house with outstanding views and equipped with everything you could need."
Thank you
-
"Great place loved every minute"
-
"Absolutely beautiful accommodation and we met Sue the Manager who was so informative and helpful."
We were truly surprised that the house far exceeded the pictures.Thankyou for an amazing week where even the rain didn’t dampen our spirits as we were able to sit in comfort enjoying the wonderful views.
-
"We love this cosy, well appointed cottage, and its location meets all our needs……stunning views, lots of wildlife, a wide variety of walking opportunities straight out the door……and with a shop, pub and beach cafe only a stone’s throw away, what more could you want?"
-
"On arriving we were very disappointed to find it was like arriving into a dirty run down area not what we were expecting, now we know why the photo is of the back of the property."
Inside the pots and pans were awful dirty and scratched, there was no way I was going to use them. The underneath of the sofas had sunk so they were very uncomfortable. The table and chairs on the balcony were very unsafe my husband sat on one and it nearly collapsed and he fell off hurting himself. There was an owners cupboard but all the draws were full of sheets and towels so you couldn’t use them to put your clothes in. I thought that’s what the owners cupboard was for. The oven idea is not the best takes to long to work how to use it . It says that 6 people could stay but it only has a little fridge with ice compartment we struggled and there was only 2 of us. It looked like the owners had moved out for the week so they could let it. All the information about the area was out of date, there was no information about the property itself until we found it stuffed in a cupboard covered in sand which we cleaned and left on the table for the next people so at least they would have a WiFi code. In our opinion the owners are not checking their reviews very well and not checking up on the job the cleaners are doing as it is not good. We would not recommend this property to anyone with older dog as our 13 & 15 year olds struggled with the stairs . On a positive the bed was comfortable and the bath was a good size.
Thank you for your comments. Customer feedback is very important to us. I am sorry that Harbourside House did not meet your expectations and that a townhouse layout was not suitable for your older dogs. The village is an old mining town and is a quiet, quaint place at the edge of the sea, with relics of it's history. The house itself was completely refurbished 4 years ago so I am surprised there are problems with the chairs but certainly will be addressing this, and it sounds like we need some new pans. If I can work out where a larger fridge can fit, then I would like to put one in. The owners cupboard houses the high chair, cot, welcome packs, cleaning things, extra pillows, cushion and duvets etc, so a change of bedding is kept in each bedroom should guests need/wish to use them. They should be just in the bottom draws so will check. You are right the pamphlets were in a cupboard as we were advised by Sykes to keep them hidden to reduce risk of Covid contamination to guests. There is a wipeable file containing essential information and the instruction manuals. As owner I do indeed check my reviews and am constantly striving to meet guests' differing requirements, wishes and expectations. I agree with you, after a great day out in the mountains or along the beach a luxury bath and bed are very welcome. Property Owner

"Harbourside House was a lovely base with truly spectacular coastal views, including over the small harbour/river inlet, where we were lucky enough to spot a Kingfisher from the conservatory, which is set off the comfortable lounge!"
The kitchen is well-equipped and is open-plan with dining and living areas! We couldn't fault the accommodation except it would have been great to have a Kingsize bed in the main bedroom on the top floor that also has stunning views! The stunningly beautiful beach was a moment's walk from the house, where we took our dog, Toby, daily for walks and runs – the beach stretches for miles to explore, and we were lucky enough to have good weather for the week with even a couple of sunbathing days. We found the locals in Haverigg exceptionally friendly and the village offers a great fish & chip shop and a reasonably well-stocked small supermarket/Londis. The one downside is that there is nowhere really nice to eat in the village itself and the Harbour Hotel/Pub-Eatery very near the property did look pretty grubby from the outside so it wasn't enticing to try! We always stay in The Lakes when we come to Cumbia and Windermere/Coniston etc are about a 40-minute scenic drive so are very accessible for visiting which we did for a couple of the days out. All in all a very relaxing break and were very pleased with our choice of accommodation! Thank you once again to Sykes Cottages; this is our 3rd successful holiday with you – arrived on 17th September 2021.
Thank you for taking the time to give such a lovely detailed feedback. I'm so glad you enjoyed Harbourside House and the surrounding area. We also like having the best of both: seaside and The Lakes ! Property Owner

"We enjoyed our holiday and the location was all we expected."
4 small points, the fridge needs updating, a TV in the upstairs bedroom would be nice ,the grey towels are past their sellby , Fix the loo seats !
Really glad you enjoyed your holiday. Thank you for your feedback. I've been in contact with the house manager to address the points made and will look into the idea of another TV. The whole refurbishment is only 3 years old, but I will reassess the fridge. Thanks again. Property Owner

"A fantastic little house with modern decor, once we found the secret cutlery drawer we didn’t want for anything."
We had a really chilled week and the dogs absolutely loved it being so close to the beach!
Thank you so much for your feedback ! All the hard work making Harbourside House a lovely place to stay is worthwhile when people enjoy their time there so much. Maybe one day I'll get round to labelling the cutlery draw ! Property Owner

"Overall we found the cottage perfect in respect of location."
The veranda was lovely to sit in, to watch the ebb and flow of the tide and to see the bird life. We always prefer to cook our own meals, but were not impressed by the convection oven. Cleanliness was adequate, but I did detect dog hairs on the floor, and crumbs on the place mats. Finally, I would prefer not to read the notice "Please leave the cottage as you found it" as soon as opening the door, and the notice about dogs on furniture and beds. I will be sure not to choose a cottage in the future which allows dogs.
Thank you for your feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed the first floor conservatory. The notice was placed when the cleaner found all the heavy furniture had been rearranged and help was required to replace it, but the notice can be removed now. Thank you. Property Owner

"A beautiful view from this cottage."
Very quite place with limited places to eat locally. Local pub does not allow dogs inside. We had to use local information from the holiday cottage next door as there was a very limited amount of information in ours. Very relaxing place to stay and surprisingly spacious.
-
"This cottage is clean, comfortable, stocked with virtually everything you need and more and is in a terrific location with fabulous views across the estuary."
Never been to this area of the U.K. before, and really enjoyed it. The beaches, the walks, the countryside, the nearness to the Lake District without the wall to wall people, the places to visit locally like Furness Abbey and Muncaster Castle. Haverigg is a good place to stay (perhaps could do with a couple of quality restaurants) and nothing not to like about the cottage.
Thank you for your lovely feedback. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and take the opportunity of exploring this little known corner of Cumbria ! Property Owner

Beds were immaculate and very clean and comfortable but the pots and pans and oven were quite dirty and needed to be re washed before use

"The property is a lovely place to stay ."
Its well positioned for access to the southern Lakes and the Cumbria coast for walking and the Dudden Estuary is a good place to bird watch on the incoming tide when the waders move close and closer to the shore. There's a good chance of finding your own bird rarity here as the estuary seems to be under watched. I was shocked to find that the inland side of Hogsbarrow RSPB is inaccessible as a chalet and caravan park takes up the shoreline preventing access. Inside the property is bright and airy and the first floor conservatory is a great place to sit to watch the estuary with good birds from the window. In general the place is very well equipped with a good heating system , comfy beds etc, easy to use washing machine and tumble dryer. There is plenty of space, we did not feel cramped. My only gripes are with the kitchen equipment. The fridge is very small. We did a big shop on our way to Haverigg so that we had food for the week, and the fridge was overfull , and there are only two of us. I don't know how you'd store food for 6 people, which is the maximum number of occupants. Utensils wise, no potato peeler, no lemon squeezer. A wok type pan would have been very useful. Otherwise great. I don't know why a microwave was taking up scarce worktop space when the worktop multi cooker acted as a microwave, oven and grill. Its a great place to stay! Go for it.

"Harbourside House is a brilliant place to stay."
It's location is right by the seaside with fantastic views. Sue (property manager) was more than helpful and answered any questions we had. The house had all the amenities and creature comforts you could ask for, it was very clean and modern, perfect place to stay if you want a bit of a peace and quiet from your busy day to day life which we normally have as a family and the bottle of wine on arrival was a fantastic touch. We will definitely will be back next year.
-
"We have had the best of times."
3 children didn't want to come home. Cottage was a home from.home accommodation. Both cumfy and stylish. Everything to hand. The riverside front was an added bonus. Delightful stay. Would definitely return. Thank you
-
"We had a lovely stay."
We especially loved the conservatory room as it has a lovely view. We would stay again
-
"This was a very pleasant place to stay despite the poor weather."
The views out to sea from the sun lounge were beautiful and when the sun popped out it was magnificent.
-
"If you just want to get away and relax this is the place."
So comfortable, tastefully furnished. Lovely warm house. Welcome gift pack much appreciated. We will definitely be back.
-
"House is amazing, scenery & walks are good."
local chippy good, so is Londis store, but you need to get out of Haverigg for a decent pub, although I had a pretty good burger at the ski bar. Bear on the Square at Millom good. Broughton better - Mason's Arms is great for beer.
-
"We had a wonderful, calming stay at Harbourside House, Haverigg."
The beautiful house is the perfect location to enjoy the estuary, the birds and the gorgeous dogs on the beach. We were very sad to leave such a comfortable house, the beautiful view from the conservatory and could have stayed so much longer. Sue was kind enough to leave biscuits, wine and milk (all essential of course) and we loved the fish and chips from the fish shop across the road. It's also great to have Londis so close by.
-
"I brought my elderly parents to Harbourside House for a short break and we all absolutely loved it."
It is exactly as featured in the photo gallery but even more lovely to actually experience the location in reality. The house is very nicely set out with everything you could need. We especially loved sitting in the conservatory overlooking the inlet; so peaceful. From the village of Haverigg it is very easy to get out and about in the car to explore the west Cumbria coast and lakes. Would definitely recommend. I would also say a big thank you to Sue, the agent for the house; she was great and good to know somebody is on hand if needed. There is only one minor suggestion I would make and that is to replace the solid soap in the kitchen for liquid hand wash. Thankyou for a great stay.
-
"When booking a holiday we try at the very least to book an holiday that is equal to the standard of living that you have at home."
Usually you end up with being disappointed, this holiday I was delighted that we choose Harbourside house. There is only two of us along with two small dogs, we had lots of space , The house is quality throughout and the views from the upstairs windows are fantastic. Haverigg is very quiet, not really much to do other than walking etc, but it’s a great house to use as a base for your ongoing holiday and adventures. The house did more than meet our expectations, if your looking for a cottage with exceptional views in quiet area then I would recommend this cottage
-
"We enjoyed our holiday very much."
It's a lovely house in a lovely part of the country, however a fenced in garden would have made it perfect.
-
"Everything was excellent we had a great holiday and will certainly return"
-
"The property owner had thought about everything, even a welcome pack which included a bottle of wine, tea coffee, snacks and a pint of milk."
Lovely location with a great seating area overlooking a great view. Thank you!

"Harbourside House, Haverigg is a great property in a great location in Cumbria."
I picked this house as it's at a beach and river estuary and perfect for bird watching. There's also an RSPB site a ten minute walk away. The village was adequate for our needs with a lovely pub The Rising Sun. The shop was reopening on the day we left having been shut for a few months. There is a scruffy Post Office but we drove a couple of miles to Millom for our supermarket shop. The house was the best we have stayed in for a while. Spotlessly clean, had everything we could possibly want with an amazing conservatory on the first floor with views across the waters. My idea of heaven. The open plan living accommodation on the first floor was cosy comfy and warm. Plenty of kitchen equipment and the stand alone combi/oven was soon mastered for our meals. Our dogs loved the location too with plenty of walks on the doorstep. The owner has provided lots of local info and books. Plenty of local trains nearby to enable planned walks and train journeys back. People were very friendly in the beach cafes and local establishments. All credit goes to the owner for this house Sykes, however Teifi House, Cilgerran has still left a nasty taste and that I won't forgive you for, knowing that the reviews you decide to publish are chosen by you are not accurate accounts of the properties.
-
"We had a fantastic stay at this cottage, we could not fault it in any way, when we arrived there was some lovely goodies left for us such as milk, wine and snacks, it was extremely clean and cosy and well equipped, it literally had everything you could think of, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher all kitchen utensils even dog towels, Netflix and a PS3 to keep the kids entertained on rainy days."
The view from the conservatory was beautiful as it looks out onto the coastline of Haverigg. What more can I say, I would definitely highly recommend this cottage as it is ideal for families, we would definitely return.
-
"A cosy cottage, peaceful setting, but within a good road network to visit popular Lake District attraction, also south to Leighton Moss RSPB."
Missed having a conventional oven, otherwise the kitchen was well equipped.
-
"Great location that children could play on the beach and rocks or go to the playground located nearby."
The cottage was excellent and provided every comfort possible. Nothing was forgotten!!! from fishing equipment to hand soap. We were so impressed that we are booking next year and hopefully Christmas too. Met some really nice people up there. Highly recommended.
-
"Fantastic holiday home, spotless and extremely comfortable everything provided for a real home from home."
The house is perfect the layout is amazing, my twelve year old son loved the indepence he had in his downstairs den with private bathroom.
-
"The accommodation would have benefited from having windows opened ready for our arrival as it was very hot on the veranda and in lounge and kitchen when we arrived."
Otherwise a very enjoyable week in beautiful surroundings and a lovely cottage.
-
"The accommodation was beautiful with stunning views out over the estuary."
My only critisism was that the grill didn't work in the accommodation but other than that it was a great place to stay.
-
"Thank you for a making our stay a very easy, enjoyable and comfortable one!"
Harbour house was beautiful and had everything we could have needed - and more!

The property
Harbourside House is in a little known location on the Southwest coast of Cumbria on the outskirts of the Lake District National Park.
The house is one of a row of terraced cottages overlooking the River Lazy as it joins the sea and has been totally refurbished including the addition of a first floor conservatory so the changing view can be enjoyed whatever the weather.
It is a place to relax, walk from, or use as a base for exploring the coastal or mountainous areas with it's activities and views to suit all. The house is on three levels with bedrooms on ground and top floors.
The middle floor is totally open plan living with conservatory, lounge, dining area and kitchen.
The kitchen area has a large table top combo oven and a second small microwave oven.
In the draws you will find a slow cooker (great for days out) and a halogen oven option !
Whilst refurbishing we took the opportunity of further insulating the walls making the gas central heating very efficient so you can keep really cosy when it's cold outside making it suitable for year round breaks.
The village has a convenience store, post office, cash point, pubs and a fish and chip shop and a very popular cafe by the beach.
In the Marina there is a bar and waterski facility and a walk further on and up there is a new bar and pizzaria with good views.
Most of the Marina is now a RSPB bird reserve and Hodbarrow Nature reserve and makes a lovely walk.
Millom is a town just over 1 mile away with a supermarket, banks, fuel station, a museum and cafes, restaurants and take-aways.
Walking from the house, it is just 5 minutes to the sand dunes and sandy beach which is part of the long distance Cumbrian Way path.
Just 30-40 minutes drive will take you the mountains of the Lake District or to Muncaster Castle with its Birds of Prey Centre or to Ravensglass for the stunning steam train trip to Boot.
The whole of the Lake District is waiting to be explored.
