"We stayed at Hazel Cottage at the beginning of May 2023."

It’s set in beautiful countryside and it’s wonderfully quiet. It was a beautiful cottage, really well equipped and comfortable. The quality of the decor and the furnishings were excellent. We had beautiful views over the estuary and the outside patio was was a lovely addition with the hot tub and barbecue. We used the wood burner once which provided good heat /warmth. The welcome pack was so thoughtful and very much appreciated. We had a wonderful and very comfortable stay.

"Had a lovely short weekend break with two other friends and my other half."

The hot tub was lovely and hot on arrival, the cottage was filled with everything you need (salt,pepper, sauces, butter plus lovely little extras such as bread and Prosecco!) would definitely return here, and hope to at some point in the near future. Thanks again

"We really appreciated all the little touches like the welcoming basket when we arrived."

Things like this make such a difference especially after a long day travelling. The hot tub was a real hit with the kids whereas the real log fire was my personal highlight. A truly beautiful cottage in even more beautiful surroundings, it was a pleasure to come home to this every evening after long walks.

"Utterly incredible."

From booking to arriving it was the smoothest process. The cottage was so well presented. Very clean and had everything you could need. I love the welcome pack full of local goodies The bedding and towels were very clean and fresh, the cottage was incredibly clean. Would absolutely book with you again.

"On arrival at Hazel Cottage, it really does take your breath away."

The cottage is beautiful and the location is simply stunning with breath taking views. The cottage is like a home from home and has everything you need for an enjoyable holiday. The little extras left by the owners ie; fresh bread and lovely jams are such a thoughtful edition. I have been on quite alot of holidays and always struggle to get company in hotel beds. The beds at Hazel cottage are so comfortable i was really suprised. Everything about our stay was luxury we cannot wait to visit again.

"House needs a better WIFI connection and absolutely needs a radio or device for playing music."

It was possible to stream through the tv but the connection was so poor it dropped out. Also the tv needs radio channels if the above is not actioned

"This was a great holiday experience."

The. Cottage is a good size, with lovely decor throughout. The kitchen is well supplied and the patio terrace is gives you an amazing view of the whole valley. Finally, the owners are great, so accommodating. I can’t recommend it enough and I am sure we will be back.

"The views and peacefulness at Hazel cottage."

We loved the lake District area there was plenty to do and see also loads of walks short and long. There were plenty of nice pubs and restaurants as well, had some delicious meals.

The property

A superb link-detached stone cottage with private hot tub on a large private wrap-around patio courtyard garden with lawn and stunning views.

In the living area there are two leather settees and a dining area with a large window so you can enjoy the views whilst dining.

There is underfloor heating throughout the ground floor and a woodburner in the sitting room.

This room also has attractive arched windows and bespoke shutters.

Step out from the living area through French doors onto the large patio and enjoy the views!

On the first floor there are two bedrooms all with en-suite facilities, beams and one of the bedrooms has a circular window with vaulted ceiling and direct long-reaching views.

This exceptional cottage with its beautiful furnishing and character features can be enjoyed all-year-round making it a perfect place to holiday in any season.

The Courtyard - Bigland Hall Estate

Backbarrow 1.5 miles. Ideally located on a private estate in the Lake District National Park these superb historic, luxury stone properties have been converted from 17th century courtyard buildings on the Bigland Hall Estate, adjacent to 350 acres of ancient woodland. Set in an elevated position which provides stunning long-reaching views across the hills, estuary and valley all properties are individual in layout, whilst being close to the villages of Backbarrow, Newby Bridge and Cartmel. The cottages also offer easy access to Lake Windermere, Coniston Water and the Leven Estuary. With character features of beams, feature walls and flooring, all cottages have underfloor heating on the ground floor with woodburning stoves and bespoke high-quality kitchens, again all with a unique design to each property. The bedrooms all have luxury en-suite bathrooms and TVs, all styled with beautiful soft furnishing and unique furniture to each room. These outstanding properties mix modern amenities whilst every effort has also been made with stunning craftmanship to keep the historic integrity of the buildings. A short drive brings you to Newby Bridge where you can embark on the steamers that will take you to Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside, where you can enjoy the lakeside vista and stunning scenery, or you can also hop on the steam train that departs to Haverthwaite. Equally you can enjoy a waterside meal or beverage at a choice of good quality hotels and simply relax, watch the birds and lake activities. Younger party members will enjoy Beatrice Potter or the lakeside Aquarium. Just a short walk away from your cottage is Bigland Equestrian centre for guests who would like to ride. Historic Cartmel with its 12th century priory is less than 4 miles away with its award-winning eateries, pubs, shops and restaurants, including the famous Michelin starred L’Enclume restaurant.
