"In our age of over-the-top, flowery property descriptions and deceiving photography, it's nice to land in a place that exceeds the prose and the images."
Great rental properties are the offspring of thought, care, and love. It was our joy to discover that Rowan Cottage was one of those.
-
"Absolutely gorgeous property with lots of room, and lovely furnishings, a vast amount of utility."
Had an absolutely superb stay and would reccommend this to anyone who is looking for a group getaway!

"We had a lovely stay at Rowan cottage."
Theres everything and more in terms of equipment for catering. The layout is beautiful and everything was clean and the bedrooms super cosy with comfortable beds. Outside the seating areas are perfect for the amazing views especially when sat in the hot tub. Pure bliss. Really stunning location, peaceful yet close enough to take day trips to the more touristy places in the lakes. We were really touched by the basket of goodies that were waiting for us on arrival including fresh bread, preserves, eggs, butter and milk. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have already recommended to friends. We would love to come back again. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

"Superb accommodation, Comfy, warm, very well maintained, high standard, amazing views Would definitely stay again"

"The property it’s self was amazing."
It was the customer service of the property that wasn’t great. To have a property that check in hours is defined by the cleaners rules is insane. When I asked to have a later check out I was told it’s the cleaners that define the check in and check out rules and timings. 09;30 check out is utterly disgusting for the amount of money per night I paid. We were barely in the property. Even a 4pm check in…. So silly. I work away and stay in properties all the time and that is by far the worst check in & out time I’ve ever come across. Who wants to be packed and out by 9:30 on a holiday morning. Get more cleaners… use different cleaners. You are a business and certainly shouldn’t have your clients stay effected by your cleaners rules. Also when checking in, the lady was passive aggressive to 1 member of our party. Stupid werid comments made at her made her feel very uncomfortable. And we all couldn’t believe what we were hearing. Chose your words carefully please. People you speak to like that could actually have mental health issues. It wasnt a nice harmonious checkin. :(
Thank you for your feedback, nice to hear that you enjoyed the property. I would take issue with your complaints regarding check in and check out times, what you didn't explain in your feedback was that i arranged for you to have a later check out time given that you felt 9.30 was too early. I also arranged for you to have an earlier check in at 3.30 even though you only arrived after 4.30. I am always friendly and welcoming to all of our guests and cannot understand your comments regarding your check in. I would also like to comment on the condition you left the property in, the Cleaners had to spend an extra 2 hours cleaning the kitchen after you had checked out. We were also disappointed that you failed to report the damage caused to the hot tub during your stay. Property Owner

"This is a beautiful accommodation and very well equipped."
Loved having the hot tub. The only problem was the temperature of the rooms. All the bedrooms seemed very warm especially the downstairs bedrooms.
-
"Excellent facility, very well located, and within easy reach of the whole lake District."
Amazing terrace to sit and have breakfast on. Beautiful surroundings for walks.
-
"Beautiful location and an amazing property."
All bedrooms were very comfortable had excellent en-suite facilities. The reception spaces were ideal for 8 people if maximum occupancy (we were only 4). Kitchen was well equipped and thr gas BBQ very useful. Particularly liked the vast quantities of cutlery and crockery.. more than we have ever seen in a holiday let. Lynsey was a lovely host and we appreciated the welcome basket and bubbles ! We will be back

"Thank you for a wonderful stay."
The cottage is beautiful with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The kitchen was stocked to a very high standard with the convenience of the second fridge. The views from the hot tub were breathtaking. The only difficulty we experienced was the lack of temperature control in the bedrooms. It was very hot in the downstairs bedroom and the only way to cool down was to open the door to the patio which wasn’t a good idea for security. But other than that, we have had a lovely week. Thank you!

"Absolutely beautiful cottage, exceeded expectations by way of amenities."
So spacious, clean and the ensuites in each room plus additional toilet was great. The welcome basket with spreads, fresh bread, eggs and butter was a lovely surprise and the cottage had everything we needed and more. Initially we wondered why the hot tub was down a few steps, but we soon realised it was so you could watch the sun set over the valley! We can’t wait to come back!

"The cottage was beautiful and very well equipped."
The views from the hot tub were amazing and we were so lucky with the weather. The cottage was finished to a very high standard and was so spacious. We will definitely return and would recommend Bigland Hall Cottages to anyone looking for a Lake District holiday!! We had a brilliant weekend and it was just what we needed!!
-
"Excellent accommodation, very well kept with plenty of space inside and with a lot of character."
The setting was nice and quiet with just a few properties in the area, the loudest things around were the cows munching grass in the field next door. The views were great and you have easy access to the lakes from this area. The staff were all very pleasant and friendly and attended to any concerns immediately. These properties will definitely be on our list next time we're looking to go to the Lake District.
-
"The cottage was fantastic exactly as described and better than we expected!"
Really friendly owners happy to answer any questions and a lovely welcome pack on arrival. Hot tub was great and we used the barbecue a couple of times. By far the best accommodation we've stayed in yet, a great holiday base to explore the Lakes and superb place to relax.
-
"A beautiful location and Rowan Cottage very comfortable and we’ll equipped, the onsite staff were extremely helpful and friendly."
We would have no hesitation in recommending this property.
-
"We had a lovely week at Rowan Cottage."
The cottage was beautiful, well-appointed and in a lovely, peaceful setting. The welcome basket was a lovely addition. A couple of days we stayed were very warm which meant the nights were quite hot, especially in one of the downstairs bedrooms where there were no opening windows - fortunately we had brought a fan with us but we would recommend this to anyone staying during the warmer months of the year.
-
"Top quality accommodation Excellent on site support Excellent attention to detail particularly basket of goods on arrival and teas , coffees milk etc."
We will book again Location and access to activities at the south lakes excellent.
-

-
"No. We sorted out a few minor issues with the Bigland Hall staff on site."
-
"Lovely cottage conversion."
Well equipped. Generous welcome package. Location more remote than expected with very little to do without driving a long way.
-
"The weather was difficult as you expect at times in the lake district."
To come back to such a beautiful comfortable house with everything we needed to be totally happy playing games cooking food and drinking in comfort was just what we needed. Thanks for the little extras that made us feel so welcome. My wife had died on march the 5th and we were not sure whether to carry on with the family holiday. I spoke to the people running the holiday home and felt nothing but support from them. The flowers were wonderful and lasted throughout the holiday. The card they left for me expressing best wishes under the circumstances was very well received and we had a wonderful holiday with my wife's name Pauline being constantly on our tongues and in our minds. It was as if she was with us as she had always been on so many occasions in the past. So a special thanks to Lynsey and Karen. I hope we will be back in the future. Kevan Murphy

"The owners had spared no trouble in making our Christmas very special."
Gifts under the tree for everyone and a hamper of goodies to start our celebration in style. We loved the cottage, and were made to feel genuinely welcome.
We are very glad to hear you had such a wonderful time during your stay, it's the small touches that certainly make the difference. Property Owner

"Loved everything about this place."
The property is stunning with amazing views! Hot tub was fab as were all the facilities. The heating was abit too warm for me and was tricky to adjust but not worth complaining about. All 8 of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay. ,

"If you are not totally impressed with this cottage, then there is something wrong with you!"
From the outside it looks lovely, but inside is even better. The size of every room is impressive. The quality and feel of the cottage is staggering good. They not only re-built the cottage to a very high meticulous standard, but also maintain it and all the contents to the say degree. We have stayed in many different places over our lifetime, from beach huts to lighthouses. This cottage is the best we have stayed in. The country setting is lovely. The service first class. What more do you want?
-
"We had a fabulous time."
The cottage is wonderful, everything has been thought of and more. The outdoor space is amazing. Just perfect.
-
"Just wow! This cottage is beautiful."
Amazing week.
-
"The cottage was renovated and decorated to the highest standard."
Every room was better than the next. The bedrooms were all so nice we couldn't tell which one was supposed to be the master! The living area was comfortable and the log burner a lovely idea, we used it each night. The views from the hot tub were unbelievable. Can't wait to come back
-
"Would have benefitted from more detailed directions once we arrived at Backbarrow."
No indication that some food and washing up things provided. Would have saved on amount of packing. Nice to have it though. Wardrobe in first upstairs bedroom was very stiff to close. Only one side of mirror light working in two of the bathrooms.
-
"Its very beautiful and having the owners/staff literally next door meant we could any issues dealt with quickly and without problem."
-
"Rowan Cottage exceeded all our expectations."
It was warm, clean and absolutely everything was provided for us, including a Christmas tree! The location was outstanding and we were able to explore the wonderful area despite the awful weather. Coming back to a log burner only added to our enjoyment! Thank you to Lyndsey for being on hand to answer all our questions and generally being a great point of contact.
-
"Absolutely superb cottage, that totally exceeded our expectations."
Lots of little extras that we didn't expect. Cannot think of a bad thing about the property. Would recommend to anyone ,even better than the pictures .
-
"I could not fault the cottage!"
However I thought checking in a 4pm was very late. We were only there for a weekend!!! No one returned our calls, when we contacted the owners!!
-
"Fantastic accomodation."
Very high standard of fittings, equipment and equipment. Lovely welcome from Lynsey.
-
"The cottage was absolutely great, and we all loved our stay."
I like to be in touch with owners to find out more information etc on things to do nearby in advance, and couldn't do this through Sykes. We will be looking to rebook.
