"Had a lovely week in Shaftoe Mews, the house is beautifully decorated with art and ornaments, and had everything we needed during our stay."
The owner Anna was very welcoming, met us on arrival and had offered to light the fire in advance - complimentary tea, milk, bread, biscuits & prosecco a lovely touch. Parking is fine unless you have a very big car, the one time we chose to park on the street (10 metres away) there were plenty of spaces. Don't understand some of the previous review comments, it's a 150 year old house with the character and quirks you should expect. We will definitely come again.

"We recently stayed at Shafthoe Mews, and it was very disappointing, very cold on arrival and very dark, not as described in the information, our car didn't fit in allocated space so had to park in the street, we had to rely on the wood burner for heating but had no radiators that worked, only got one hand and one bath towel each not ideal when you couldn't dry them."
Two of the first floor bed rooms were very dark with no natural light, we actually booked for a week but only managed to stay till Tuesday, will not be going back, very unhappy, a waste of our hard earned money!!!

"What a lovely place!"
Full of character, very cosy and just the ticket for a long weekend away. Our host was very welcoming, on hand and very helpful. Ideally located for visits to the main Hadrian’s Wall and National Trust walks. The local regular train service to Hexham and beyond is close by if you want explore the wider area or eat out.

"A perfect weekend retreat for our family."
It was in an ideal location and the house itself was so suited to a gathering for seven. The beautiful furnishings were appreciated and it felt like “home from home”. We all plan to return to Haydon Bridge one day as this house and location couldn’t be matched very easily.

"The accommodation is spacious and very clean ."
There is parking space for one small car through a very solid stone tunnel between cottages, which you turn into at a right angle from a road with cars parked on either side. You would not get a larger car through the tunnel. Once inside pray there is only one car parked in the turning area else you'll have to back out through the tunnel....There are not enough electric sockets and there are extension leads off of extension leads which we considered unsafe. You only get central heating if the solid fuel ( wood and coal burner) is alight, so in the mornings it is freezing. To get the radiators hot you need to use alot more coal than wood. Two bedrooms only have Velux windows very high in the ceiling so you can't open them or pull back the blinds . There is a low beam in the ceiling on the stairs to the attic room where I smacked my head- it needs some padding and a warning. There is only one exit from the property. Apart form these structural issues the property is full of art and collectables and there are few free surfaces. its well positioned in the town for easy access to shops and the road system.

We had a lovely time with two families, with plenty of room for everyone. Great location in the centre of town, with plenty to do in the area. Anna was a responsive and accommodating host.

Always quick to respond to any queries. Takes a while to heat up as the heating system is via the solid fuel fire but just a quirk of a very quirky house. Beautifully decorated and in a lovely setting. Would definitely go back. Stunning.

Local amenities are also very good. The village is very peaceful and views of the South Tyne across the bridge stunning. Well worth a visit.

You can tell a lot of love has gone into this house. Nice greeting and any queries answered. Great base for the best bits of Hadrian's Wall and river walks. Good pubs and eateries two minutes away. Good Co-Op. Really friendly village and neighbours.

"A gem in the heart of Haydon Bridge village."
Excellent facilities, high spec fixtures and fittings and a thoughtful accommodating host. The parking space is a little awkward to get in and out of but nonetheless this is a fantastic holiday home and we thoroughly recommend. We will definitely return.

Had a minor issue with the hot water that stopped working mid-holiday, contacted the owner and they had a plumber out to fix the problem within a few hours! The owner was very thoughtful and on arrival we found a complementary bottle of Prosecco and 2 pints of milk in the fridge with some local quality biscuits on the kitchen table - a nice touch! There was also complementary access to Netflix on the big (65 inch?) TV. This property was a great base for exploring the Roman forts and Hadrian’s wall that were nearby, and even a trip over to Kielder Forest was only about a 50 minute trip. Would highly recommend this property.

Christmas and New year are lovely events to lavish and dress the house with xmas trees and decorations. We cannot guarantee the snow however cosying around the log stove with candles and a welcoming bottle of Prosecco sets the tone for a lovely holiday. Listening to feedback we have worked hard upgrading the holiday house and want our guests to have a wonderful experience. It is an unusual house and most people react with delight when they walk through the door. Bathrooms have been upgraded so that the showers are both accessible at the same time. A dishwasher has been designed and installed in the kitchen. A luxurious masterchef cooker with multiple ovens has replaced previous one and blinds for the other bedrooms are been put in place. We are most conscientious to make sure your stay is a lovely experience Property Owner

"The arrival and departure times on website does not match the owners requests."
Eight people trying to shower in facilities that only provided for one person to shower at anytime was not great to say the least. Pillows need replacing. No locks on bathroom. Dishwasher needed for size of accommodation. Totally overpriced.
The arrival and departure times have been changed to accommodate the extra time required to make sure the house is ready for our guests. There are two bathrooms including two showers and a bath as advertised. Pillows have been replaced to a higher standard. Thank you for highlighting the locks these will be put in place. A dishwasher may be considered in the future but at the moment the traditional style kitchen can not accommodate one. Pricing structures are decided by the letting agency. Property Owner

Spacious and well kitted out with everything you would need. Just a few things that were slight niggles: fabric on the settee was quite itchy and not comfortable on bare skin, Over took a very long time to heat up and cook food (think 40 mins for oven chips),
The sofas are new from Barker and Stonehouse and the upholstery is a traditional tweed wool - sorry it was itchy I'll look out for some throws to make it more comfortable! I will check the oven out however there is also a combination oven that also does microwave and conventional cooking Property Owner

"Spacious, very well equipped, warm, comfortable accommodation in centre of town with parking outside the door."
Very convenient for Hadrian's Wall/Northumbria and short walk to the train station for access and sightseeing further afield. Only downsides were the absence of immediate outside space or blinds/curtains on the skylights in two bedrooms meaning the children woke too early.

The owner, Anna, met us and showed us around, explaining everything. There were biscuits to welcome us, as well as a pantry with a good supply of all the essentials. The log burner was going and we couldn’t have been made more welcome. The house itself was immaculate and a lot of effort has clearly gone into making this cottage as enjoyable a stay as possible. You are literally 2 minutes from the local pub, which serves great meals. There’s a tasty chip shop close by, with a mini supermarket less than 5 min walk away. The location is beautiful, with the River South Tyne next to the pub. Loads to do close by with Hadrians Wall, castles etc, with the coast not being too far away either. You certainly won’t be disappointed staying here!

"We had a wonderful time during our three day visit and the cottage was extremely comfortable and well stocked for all our needs."
Our one suggestion would be to consider heavy blinds or curtains in the bedrooms (not including the attic room which was fine!) as we were awake early due to light coming in, especially in the rooms with dormer windows. On the whole though, Anna, the owner was very welcoming and approachable, she even had a fire roaring for us on arrival! The cottage was spotless and comfortable and in a great spot to explore a very beautiful part of the world. Thank you for having us and we will hopefully be back soon :)

Everything was sparkly clean and new and the house is just lovely and full of beautiful details. We were welcomed by Anna with perfect instructions and lovely homemade marmelade, biscuits, wine and even prosecco! The house was really comfortable and located in a lovely secluded mews in Haydon Bridge a lovely town in Northumberland close to lots of great places to explore. We had a wonderful time and definitely recommend staying at Shaftoe Mews for a taste of the lovely country life of Northumberland. Thank you so much!!!!

HAYDON BRIDGE
Hexham 8 miles; Haltwhistle 8 miles.
The attractive village of Haydon Bridge is situated between the market town of Hexham and Haltwhistle, close to the A69, on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, and only a short drive away from the magnificent remains of the Roman Forts on Hadrians Wall, a World Heritage Site. There are some delightful walks in the area, but perhaps the loveliest are at Allen Banks - 194 acres of woodland and riverside paths just 3 miles from Haydon Bridge. The picturesque village of Haydon Bridge dates back to the 14th Century and is situated on both banks of the South Tyne river with an ancient pedestrian bridge over. Amenities in the village include a railway station, a variety of shops, pubs, a local tourist information centre, churches and riverside walks.
