  • "Lovely house in a gorgeous location."

The owners have thought of everything to ensure the comfort of their guests. Plenty of character and fabulous garden. We loved it! Only negative is the 10am check out which is very early. 11 would be more helpful to guests. Thank you

  • "We really loved the house and it's comfortable furniture, decorations etc, especially the beds and warmth from the aga."

The garden was also well tended and lovely. We probably would have given it five stars if it had included a barbecue and a downstairs loo.

  • "The cottage had bags of character, was generously proportioned and had all the equipment we needed, and more."

We enjoyed the welcome pack and that everything was ready to go. An important feature was the large and beautiful garden; practical for small children and dogs but good to just sit out in. We had a lovely week here.

  • "Fair Rigg Old Farm is stunning."

The photos do not do it justice, the grounds especially. Beautiful manicured gardens, very safe and enjoyed especially by an energetic Labrador. The aga was a treat to use and very convenient, not an issue even in one of the hottest weeks this year. The property again beautiful and extremely clean, quirky but with modern bathrooms. The tray of human and doggy goodies very welcoming too. Nick called in to make sure all was ok which was a nice touch! Unreservedly recommend!

  • "Absolute fabulous property and really enjoyed our stay."

Never used an Aga before but great results! Only gripe would be that it does make the house very warm indeed - would be wonderful in winter, but is a bit too much in July, even a cool July - and we had to have lots of windows open which meant quite a lot of annoying flies came in! Also, maybe lighter tog duvets for summer would be better. But we had a wonderful time and would love to stay again, and this is probably the best holiday cottage we’ve stayed in! Definitely 10/10!

  • "Lovely house and beautiful garden in a very convenient location for much of the lakes."

Very low ceilings (I am not tall and banged my head twice?!) but that is part of the charm of what is a very traditional old house. Would definitely stay again.

  • "Fabulous stay at Fair Rigg, lovely comfortable warm house."

We are now converted to AGA cooking. All home comforts provided. Garden was beautiful, large and secure for the dog who loved wandering round the wood and hiding under the bushes. Central area for touring and great local walks.

Thank you for your kind feedback. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We hope to welcome you back again. Property Owner

We can highly recommend staying at Fair Rig. After hard days work it was so nice to be able to return to a warm, clean comthy home.

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad that the property was all that you needed. Property Owner

  • "Absolutely perfect, we’ve used Lakelovers every year for last 12 years and always dismissed Fair Riggs as we thought it was too far south but ended up being our favourite cottage yet."

So warm and welcoming and the garden was just perfect for the dogs. We normally do the big, popular walks in the Lakes but this time we just walked from the cottage and had some of the best walks we’ve ever had. Just a perfect holiday and cottage.

  • "Lovely cottage, only downside is that there is a problem with flies there especially in the the main bedroom on the top floor."

There were lots of dead flies on the carpet and bed and lots more flying around! I couldn’t sleep as I was woken up by them landing on my arm and face and woke up one morning with a dead one underneath me in the bed! There was also a lot of buzzing coming from the beams in there. Very unfortunate as it is a lovely cottage and I did note it had been mentioned by other guests. It was also October not the Summer.

Thank you for your comments. The flies are an occasional seasonal concern for most countryside properties that can only be dealt with once we know they have returned to hibernate. There were no flies on the Friday changeover when you arrived, if you had contacted us during your stay we would have gladly sorted the problem for you. We noticed them on Monday and Pest Control have since been and dealt with them. I hope this won't stop you booking again and glad you liked our cottage. Property Owner

It was the perfect retreat for me and my family along with other relatives. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and the only thing that stopped us getting any rest was a 11 month old excited toddling explorer which we had to keep away from the Aga, steps and fire, ornaments etc.The kids loved exploring and so did we, we can't wait to return.

  • "We have to say that we were delighted with the property and the facilities it offered."

At the very start, there was a lovely welcome pack including a bottle of wine and shortbread and the house was nicely prepared with a beautiful well kept large garden. The furnishings are to the standard of a well kept home and it is most comfortable to live in. Of course any home with a fully up and running AGA makes the kitchen a magnet for social gathering and as a result of this this, the house felt comfortable and warm. The house is a delightful property, in a beautiful location and we hope to be back before too long!

. 2 couples and 2 singles. A very comfortable , characterful house with a lovely garden. Very well furnished and equipped ( just lacking some sharp preparation knives and a couple of chopping boards). The lounge might be a bit small for 8 adults (only seating for 6), but it was great for us. Plenty of hot water ….. good showers/ baths The welcome tray was much appreciated. The Aga was excellent , as was the wood burner on chilly evenings. Nearest shop is Budgens at the Shell petrol station. , plus a Greggs. Nearest restaurants are in Newby….very busy road so not an easy walk. We all had a brilliant week in a lovely area.

  • "We were a little disappointed that the cottage was not as isolated as the aerial pictures led us to believe."

We live by a road so for us, traffic noise was a problem. I even heard the traffic at 6.30 am when letting the dogs out. The kitchen drawers were not as clean as they could be and my husband had to unblock one of the showers, on our first night. Luckily he is a plumber so not so much of a problem as an inconvenience. The only other thing to note was the fact that the cleaner was waiting outside the property, with her engine running, at 9.20am of the day of our departure. We felt pressured to be out and leave, even though the time of departure was by 10am. We did love the atmosphere and the attention to detail inside the house.

We are sorry you feel this way. When you arrived 2 hours earlier than allowed we agreed to give you early entry. Cleaner Helen spoke with the you, pointing out Nick's contact details should there be any maintenance problems. You didn't contact them regarding the shower. On your departure, Helen our cleaner arrived early in case you had left early as most guests do. 2 of the 3 cars had indeed gone. Helen approached you with a view to asking about making a start in the utility area - she asked if everything was ok and you responded that everything was wonderful, comments reflected in the guest book in the property. • "Stunning house."

So comfortable and just beautifully furnished. Set in beautiful surrounds. Equipped with everything we needed. The Aga was a challenge and we had a few meal mishaps. Just 2 improvements needed - PLEASE replace the kitchen knives they are blunter than a butter knife. Not one single knife was sharp and that made food prep very difficult. Also lack of hangers and a mishmash of odd bent hangers

The house is such a delight to stay in. It’s so large yet comfortable that it was a struggle to leave. I sat in the garden for hours and the peace and stillness that the view of the mountains brought was unforgettable. A 17th century treasure that the full family can enjoy. My dogs were in paradise! And I felt so safe in the knowledge it was an enclosed space.
