  • "A beautifully furnished and comfortable property in a peaceful location."

The WiFi worked well, as did phone reception noting previous comments. We had a few minor issues during our stay. We did contact maintenance as the upstairs bathroom toilet’s flush was not working properly. This was fixed the same day. We also reported that the shower screen in the downstairs bathroom had a leak which needed mopping up each day. This was not fixed. Some of the pans were very scratched so we only wanted to use 2 of them and the measuring jug needs replacing. These minor things to one side, we loved our stay and property and would happily recommend and stay again.

  • "We had a fantastic stay at this beautiful cottage."

It’s well decorated, very comfortable and quiet place. While it’s tucked away from the main roads, it’s still ideally situated for Lake Windermere. Wifi is an issue and is a bit of a hit and miss especially with phone network being poor as well (the information booklet at cottage does highlight this) it might be helpful to include this on the advert for others who may need reliable internet. Apart from that a cosy place to switch off while you stay there. Thanks!

Hi Thank you very much for your kind and constructive review. You are not the first person to raise the WiFi so and it’s obviously still an issue so we are upgrading the existing system on the 26th September so it will have full access to a Starlink fibre broadband. We Need to make the changes and then test etc…but have been advised this should certainly work - we’ll confirm when done. Otherwise it’s great to hear you enjoyed the location and furnishings and were able to switch off and enjoy a quiet break. Edit: just to confirm we have now been able to upgrade the internet connectivity at the property which now has full access to Starlink satellite - this is currently generating speeds Of better 80-100mb’s across the whole cottage. The tv is now also hard wired into the wifi Thanks Property Owner

Hi We are really pleased you enjoyed the stay and the quiet and rural location, we hope being off the beaten track is a real plus for most but appreciate it doesn’t always work for everyone. • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hazelrigg Cottage ."

Beautiful cottage , beautifully decorated, very comfortable and very quiet . Although ‘off the beaten track’ ideally situated for the lake Windermere and more . Only problem was the WiFi which was not at all good and was continually dropping out , so we were unable to watch the TV . This was not a problem for us as we weren’t reliant on it but it maybe worth mentioning it in the information on the Sykes website ( it does say in the information booklet at the cottage ‘ WiFi is not always strong ‘ however it would be useful in case others need it . Debbie

Good Morning. We are really pleased you enjoyed the cottage generally and both the inside and the location. I’m really sorry about the WiFi, I am rebooking at how we can improve this again - the speed available with a hard wired connection is poor so we have used a different option but obviously that wasn’t working well which we can only apologise for. We are re looking at this again and will update on the booking website asap. One thing to check (probably more for future stayers) is that the extender is plugged in at all times - ideally next to the internal wall - kitchen is a good spot. Thanks Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely time at the cottage the only down side we found was the patio ..."

We had a lovely time at the cottage the only down side we found was the patio and parking area as 2 of the guests have mobility issues it was a struggle on the surface shale or chippings and parking for 2 vehicles

Good afternoon We are pleased you enjoyed a lovely stay at the cottage. In terms of the issues, I’m sorry you found the patio and parking area a struggle, we thought the pictures of the surface showed the small stones clearly but we have now amended the description to try and make it doubly clear so hopefully no one else has the same issue. The patio is raised effectively one step up so we have further clarified this. In terms of the parking - we do only advertise one parking space with the cottage, unless there are 2 very large cars you can squeeze two cars onto the drive but would probably not be able to close the gates at the front (this isn’t an issue though) it’s a very quiet road Thanks and hopefully we have now improved / clarified the listing Property Owner

One slight build would be a clothes airer as we had to wash grandchild’s baby grows and had no where to hang to dry. Other than that if your looking for a great base is the south lakes look no further!

Hi - it was great to welcome back our first repeat stay and glad you enjoyed it again, We have now placed a clothes airer which is in the cupboard under the stairs - thanks for the feedback / suggestion. Property Owner

Beds were very comfortable with easy access to each bathroom because they’re en suite. Showers was lovely and warm and the log burner was a great after a muddy wet walk and the traditional cottage features made this modern finished cottage just perfect. We high recommend and we will definitely be back. Thank you.

  • "Great stay at Hazelrigg Cottage which exceeded all our expectations."

Small issue on arrival due to a recent power cut but communication with the Owner was excellent and resolved straight away. The cottage is extremely well equipped with all that is required for a relaxing stay. The owner had obviously taken onboard previous comments and there was both a small stock of coffee pods plus a starter pack of kindling and logs for the first couple of nights. This is great and along with the bottle of prosecco etc made you feel welcome. Walks from the cottage with the dog are great with numerous well marked trails available. Kitchen is excellent with top class appliances and spotlessly clean (as was all of the cottage) and nothing better than relaxing in front of the log burner on an evening. Excellent cottage and we look forward to a return visit. Thank you.

Thank you so much for this great feedback and for your recommendations / constructive suggestions around some improvements we can / have made. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future and hope you enjoyed your onward holiday. Property Owner

  • "Disappointing… this property has so much promise but sadly fails to deliver."

On arrival at the cottage we found the kettle still half full of water, the milk frother full of festering milk from previous guests and we also found food splashes on the chopping board and food remnants on pots/pans/knives etc. We also found the following- missing handle on kitchen drawer, cobwebs in the ceiling light/window in kitchen, toothpaste marks on the sink in the downstairs bathroom, dead bugs inside the light fitting in the upstairs bathroom, ripped/torn bed linen and overflowing bins. It’s also worth mentioning that whilst a log burner and coffee machine are featured in cottage, no logs/kindling or coffee pods are left for guests to use, according to the owner this is too logistically challenging? Contacted the owner whilst we were there regarding issues with cleanliness, they gave a lacklustre apology but ultimately passed the book to the cleaning company they hire - the owners don’t live nearby so couldn’t do anything practical to offer support and Sykes didn’t bother to contact us at all until after we’d already arrived back home, we’re actually still yet to have a proper conversation with Sykes regarding the issues. Sadly it was a really disappointing stay in what could be a lovely cottage in the perfect location, a real shame.

This is obviously a very disappointing review which i don’t believe reflects the property or other guests experience. In terms of addressing the review - contact was received at 10pm on a Saturday around 30 hours after check in, making cleanliness issues pretty difficult to resolve and we did not ‘pass the buck’, we are a fully managed property and have to raise any issues with our cleaners which we did on the Sunday, had the issues been raised immediately housekeeping could have gone straight to resolve. Any issues with cleanliness is significant and one we addressed directly with housekeeping, we have, as owners, checked / inspected the property a number of times between stays and found the cleaning and towels / linen provided to be of a very good standard. Some of the feedback we absolutely take on board (although the reviewers context is disappointing) - in terms of logs / kindling - we have found a resolution to be able to provide some wood with the burner (unfortunately we have very limited dry storage space). Also on the nespresso pods - we do not state we provide them but a number will be available to future guests. Some of the issues raised though feel very minor - water in the kettle on arrival? missing handle in the kitchen - it is missing from the 5th drawer (is still accessible) and is even showing on the listing pictures as being missing, a matching replacement is on its way. The cobwebs - it is an old cottage in the Lake District, some cobwebs in the extreme of roof lights are possible - they are certainly not all over the property. The vast majority of issues relate to cleanliness so we don’t understand the 50% ratings on accuracy, comfort and facilities, the ‘lacklustre reply’ from the owners also rather misleading - we responded within 30 minutes at 10.30pm on a Saturday evening and have also sent two further messages of which none have been responded to at all. We do take issues very seriously and take a lot of pride in the property as well. Property Owner

  • "First couple renting this cottage with our cocker spaniel Milo."

What a fantastic place, finished to a very high standard, really well furnished, and the best equipped property we have stayed in! The owners have really gone the extra mile with this place and should be proud of what they have accomplished. Easy access to south lakes, Newby Bridge, Cartmel and Grizedale Forest. Nicely tucked away up a country road providing easy walks to take the dog out from your front door, peaceful and very very quiet. The only recommendation would be better lighting around the parking area as very dark at night due to no street lights.

Thank you for such a great review and glad you enjoyed your stay. We agree on the lights, we thought the solar ones we’d added would be sufficient but don’t seem to attract enough sunlight through winter so we will be looking to sort an alternative as soon as possible. Property Owner
