"Had a wonderful short stay with the dog."
Hut is small as pictured but well provisioned with lots of thoughtful touches. Pies and fizz and a ready-to-go hot tub on arrival was great. We had an issue with the hot water tank that was resolved very quickly and without fuss. I will say that the toilet is really quite narrow so if you're on the larger side you will find it a bit of a squeeze. Felt nice and private. Despite the storm we were nice and cosy inside. Would recommend.

"We had a really lovely, quiet and chilled stay for our honeymoon."
The hut is exactly as described. Hot tub was lovely and the bed was very comfy. The pies were delicious and the bottle of fizz was a nice touch. When the batteries in tv remote ran out a quick text sent and replacements were brought up immediately. The only negative comment is that there were no condiments or cooking oil only salt and pepper and I only make this observation based on previous experiences of air bnb places and other huts I’ve stayed in where those things are a given. However I can’t recommend this place enough for a relaxed getaway it was brilliant.

"Lovely hut, good directions and the property was very clean especially the hot tub."
No cafeteria! But everything else was great.

"We had a lovely holiday."
Plenty of peace and country air. The shepherds hut was clean, comfortable and cosy with everything you need. The shepherds pies bottle of fizzy wine and the perfectly heated hot tub were a welcome treat on our arrival. Thank you so much.

"An absolute fabulous stay, loved the surrounding area and being in the middle of no where."
Only one complaint regarding the Hot Tub, usually when we stay at places like these, the hot tubs are cleaned (ph and cleanliness checked) regularly/almost daily and this wasn’t the case here. However, this wouldn’t stop us from returning as we did love our stay. Also, the hosts David and Brenda were fab and were happy to help when needed. We have already recommended this place to people we know.

"We have just got back from our very pleasant stay at the Shepherds retreat and I can say that we had a splendid time be it sipping tea on the veranda overlooking the surrounding hills with the baa'ing and the sounds of the birds supplying the sound track or chilling in the hot tub which was so relaxing and secluded we felt like we could of been the only humans for miles around."
We spent little time indoors as we were so lucky with the weather which allowed us to use the outside space to its entirety. Even when we had a short rain shower we retired to the area which encompasses the hot tub where there was plenty of space and additional seating. Inside we found a kitchen where it is great to see that the owners have listened to the feedback from previous reviews of items that some may expect like scissors and additional loo roll which we are happy to report were all in attendance and using the kitchen was easy enough to do for quick meals like a bacon sandwich for breakfast and we were also able to cook the (lovely) shepherds pie that was waiting for us in the fridge with some roasted carrots and peas that we brought along. Were it lacked was worktop space so we utilised the table in most cases as we never ate there. The bed was very comfy indeed, sleep was so very important as we had busy days of walking to do and good sleep we did get. The bathroom was tight in space but manageable and the shower was lovely, no compromise with limited hot water or a cold feed only it was a perfect hot shower. Right now for the pooch. Iris our cockerpoo loved it and felt immediately at home. We brought with us our little dog bed and towel but we need not have as it was provided by the owners. We could tell she was very happy with her outside space as there were areas where she could of escaped if she did feel the need but she didnt. She stayed mostly on her bed watching over the sheep nodding in and out of naps. Because of how warm it was we never had need of the log burner but we did have the fire pit in the garden on one evening more for atmosphere than the warmth it provided and there was plenty of kindling and firelighters to get it going as well as a large basket of logs. I imagine the Shepherds hut would be super cosy in winter with a little snow falling about the place. The communication we had with the family who own the property was great with recommendations for walks, runs and places to eat which we took on board and enjoyed. Although the weather we were having was good the weather previously to our arrival was not great for anything other than ducks so a lot of the ground was quite boggy in the woodland walks that were a short drive but really nice despite it. We would recommend Geld Wood which we did a circular route of around 3.7 mile with 75% of that being very good to let Iris of the lead to explore. We would love to return in the future, we have had a fantastic time and exploring the villages and towns around the property has been great. We would highly recommend

"We had a lovely 3 night stay at this hut and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful break away!"
It was very comfortable and clean, and had pretty much everything you would need - the robes and slippers, as well as pies and bottle of fizz in the fridge were a fab extra touch. The hot tub was great and we used it every day, with a lovely view of the sheep right outside and the hills in the distance. The pictures of the listing do need updating though - the hut is now stained green and some of the furniture/decor has been updated/changed so we were unsure if we were at the right hut at first, but it’s still wonderful! We were looking forward to the swing chair on the decking, but that’s unfortunately no longer there (not a big deal, just a small disappointment that would’ve been avoided if the pictures were up to date!) We did have to get an extra loo roll as there was only one, but again not a big deal! TV had Netflix, Prime etc as well as freeview, so we weren’t short of entertainment in the evenings. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely come back again!
-
"It was such a gorgeous place to stay and was so cozy and comfortable."
It was a lovely touch to have a pie and fizz on arrival as we had been travelling all day! Would 100% recommend to anyone for a nice getaway, the owners were lovely too!
-
"We had an absolutely perfect few days in Shepherd's Retreat."
Definitely would book again and recommend to others. The personal touches like the shepherds pie and sparkling wine in the fridge made our stay even more special. Very happy with this holiday.
-
"We loved our stay at High Rigg and would definitely return!"
A few things would have made our stay easier, which I have also seen in other previous reviews so it’s a shame that the owner hasn’t taken these on board- one toilet roll for a 4 night stay isn’t good, also one bin bag (these are things you don’t expect to have to bring with you) and no scissors. However, the dog bed and dog towel was a thoughtful touch and we LOVED the shepherds pie and wine on arrival! :) The hut looks significantly different on photos- abit more fresh with more facilities but we still enjoyed our stay regardless. Thank you:)

"A fantastic short break away at the shepherds retreat, beautiful eyecatching entrance, relaxing and didn't leave the cabin for the whole stay."
Clean, comfortable, and luxurious! Hot tub was fantastic sipping the complimentary sparkling wine! Shepherds pie was certainly a delight. The views are fantastic and the enclosed space is perfect for your fur friends. The only slight negative I could give would be the cabin did not match the photos on the website, it had been stained green since originally listed, made us think it was not the correct cabin, maybe a sign next to the parking would help. Lovely helpful owner, already planning our next visit.
-
"We have had a lovely relaxing stay this weekend, we took our dog Stanley along there was a enclosed garden for him (there was one gap but we just blocked it with a chair) we asked if he was able to use a field in front of our hut for some off lead playtime, they got back to us streight away with a yes so this alone was perfect him being able to play with no worries."
It was everything we needed and a big comfy bed, so quiet and peaceful and if it wasn't cloudy we would have been able to see all the stars. The grounds and lake are beautiful and you could see for miles. We will be back

"We had a lovely few days away at High Rigg - thank-you."
The property was unique and quirky and very peaceful. The hot tub was fantastic and we enjoyed a lovely BBQ in the sunshine! Comfy bed and very clean when we turned up. The shepherds pies in the fridge was a lovely welcome touch. In the spirit of honesty, there are definitely some things that could improve the ease of stay, especially those guests staying for more than a couple of days: 1. Scissors in the kitchen 2. The chairs were far too big, we spent most of the time moving them around so we could cook comfortably 3. The path from the parking space to the hut is half slabs half grass - this would be really tricky in winter! 4. Spare bin bags would be good… 1 for a 4 night stay isn’t enough… 5. A small freezer section in the fridge would be great as some ice for your drinks would be nice to have 6. Knives were very blunt, we could barely cut an onion up Unfortunately on our departure day, we were packing the car an hour and a half (8:30am) before check out (10am) and we had one of the owners ask if the hot tub could be emptied… we were still moving our belongings out and felt this was a bit inappropriate. Overall we had a very nice relaxing break and would recommend for those couples aiming for a romantic break.

"Amazing stay!"
We stayed for three nights with our little cockapoo in the Shepards Retreat. The short walk from the parking area to the hut is beautiful, the hut is set up on the hillside with stunning views from your balcony and hot tub. The hut has everything you could need, the log burner and fire pit were a lovely addition to a cold evening, with a small starter kit of logs kindling and fire lighters provided. The hot tub on an evening was just amazing, watching the sun set, with the dressing gowns and slippers they provided. There are beautiful walks right on your doorstep, but I highly recommend a short drive out to High Stand Forest. The hut was so peaceful in beautiful grounds, the owner was really friendly too. Our dog absolutely loved it, and we were so sad to leave. We already can’t wait to return!
-
"The place was clean and cosy."
The owners are lovely people, who are just a text away if you need anything. Overall we had a brilliant stay will definitely be coming back.
-
"We had an amaaaazzzing time staying at the Shepard's retreat at HighRigg."
The hut was superb and all we could have asked for. The views were amazing, super comfy bed, great facilities i.e the kitchen and shower bathroom! And the hot tub really made the whole holiday. Would highly highly recommend. We will definitely be coming again!
-
"Lovely place, very clean and comfortable and has everything you need."
Really enjoyed our stay and great location with beautiful views100% recommend.
-
"Lovely shepherd hut stay on the whole."
Location fab, hot tub perfect. Bed really comfy.great place for a chill. However couple of niggles. The path to the hut is appalling. Few slabs then grass only and was basically a mud bath for a good 50m. Wellies or walking boots were a must. This really needs to be dealt with. The hut had a fridge with no ice compartment so if you want to sit and sip a g&t on veranda then you won’t have any ice! I think bearing in mind the cost then really the ice compartment should be there. Also only one toilet roll left - we were there 4 days so had to go and buy more. I think that is ridiculous. When you pay a lot of money these are things you shouldn’t have to think about. Also the table is too high for the lovely chairs so when you are eating it’s quite awkward. And there was only a tiny little swivel mirror in bathroom. A mirror on wall would make more sense. The shepherds pie and fizz that was left was a lovely gesture. The shepherds pie was lovely but very peppery. We would definitely stay again but feel these minor niggles would make a huge difference if they were resolved.
-
"We had an absolutely fabulous 3 night stay, Shepherds Retreat is an absolute gem of a place, so spacious, cozy, comfortable and has everything that you need for a short break."
The Shepherds pie and fizz were so welcoming, especially after a long drive from Northamptonshire. The Christmas tree and decorations so lovely and welcoming, the hot tub was fabulous. We really cannot wait to come back again, it was so good. The owner is such a lovely man too.
-
"Wow! What I can I say about Shepard’s retreat the most perfect place to spend Christmas."
From the shepherds pie, fizz, cake, biscuits and chocolates on arrival to the Christmas tree and decorations. There is nothing they haven’t thought of. This is the 3rd time we have stopped in a hut but high righ is by far the best. The owners are so nice and helpful we got lost on our way but luckily the owner was coming down the lane and shown us where to go. The hot tub is wonderful absolutely crystal clear. We can’t wait to return in summer as it was slightly muddy but there had been a lot of rain can’t wait to go up in summer as our dog will love all the open space. Even left us out a dog bed and bowls. Nothing is really to much trouble at high rigg. The bed is also very comfortable made us come and buy a new mattress. Thanks for everything see you again soon.
-
"Me, my wife and the dog stayed there for three nights."
The owners a lovely and very helpful. The shepherds hut is beautiful nice and clean and very cozy. The views are outstanding and there are some amazing walks near by. Absolute 10/10 place. We plan on going back it’s amazing true relaxation.
-
"Was a lovely little cabin, but exactly what we were after."
The owners were very helpful with reggie commendations on walks in the area. The food on arrival was also amazing, compliments off to the chef. The only minor thing would be the area not being fully enclosed for the dog but we were able to make it work with a corkscrew and long lead
-
"We had a lovely stay, the hut was spotless and well kitted out."
We liked all of the decoration and additional touches. We made good use of all of the outside facilities and the hot tub was fab. Another bigger mirror in the retreat would have been useful but the mirrors in the hideaway were great once we had moved for the night. Thankyou you for a great stay and facilitating us to stay another night at such short notice!

Highly recommend, beautiful peaceful retreat, the hamper being more than sufficient The only downside being the week passed in a blink of an eye

"So my partner booked this lovely little lodge cabin (it was our first holiday away together) and I must say that the accommodation is absolutely gorgeous!"
It is really cozy and snug. The place was really clean. Fresh towels, robes, and slippers were provided for us. We didn’t see the owners during our stay but my partner sent an email beforehand explaining that we were going to arrive late due to finishing work and having to travel down from East Yorkshire. When we arrived it was lovely and warm, the lamps were kept on and there was a shepherds pie and a bottle of rosé in the fridge waiting for us! The hot tub was amazing! We had spent our days visiting Carlisle Castle, Solway Air Museum and Hadrians Wall and it was so nice to come back and relax in the hot tub. The field surrounding the lodge was lovely, it was filled with sheep. The fireplace outside was a lovely little touch, we had bought marshmallows. It was so lovely to sit and watch the sunset in front of the fire. There was no wifi - which I wasn’t so bothered about. The television in the accommodation had some really good channels, and had no issues with it. There is a cluster of 5 lodges but they aren’t near each other. It’s very private which is a lovely little touch. Overall I had the best time and I am definitely looking to book again within the next year. I instantly fell in love with the place as we were walking up to it. It really felt like home!
-
"We enjoyed 7 nights here and are really sorry to be going home!"
A fantastic hidden gem, Dave and Brenda are absolutely lovely and nothing was too much trouble! We brought our GSD and Brenda even offered a fresh towel for her as it was rainy (we had plenty of our own) but how thoughtful! The welcome shepherds pie was to die for! And the bottle of fizz was a lovely touch. We will definitely be returning. 10+ from us!
-
"We've had a lovely few days staying in the Shepherds Retreat."
We took 2 dogs with us who enjoyed the break just as much as we did. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and the hot tub was ideal for relaxing after some long walks. We'll definitely be returning soon.
-
"Amazing place and amazing owners."
The cabins aren't next to each other so privacy is great. We have already booked to go back.
-
"Having stayed in several shepherds huts up and down the country over the past 4 year we can honestly say that the our experience at High Rigg Shepherds Retreat was the best, The hut was well equipped with everything we needed for a 6 night stay, the quality of the furnishings, bedding, towels, robes etc was second to none and the location of the hot tub, under cover, was perfect."
The hosts were available if required and the welcome shepherds pie and bubbles were perfect. If you are looking for a quiet secluded get away to unwind and recharge your batteries, there would be no better place to spend time and relax than here....
-
"Stunning location and views."
Great outdoor decking space. Friendly/informative owner. Lovely break all round. In retrospect the hut a little too small for our booked 5 days, perfect for a short break.
-
"A lovely tranquil setting, perfect for a peaceful couples getaway."
I will definitely revisit again
-
"Shepherds retreat was just amazing."
Everything you needed -kits for fire & electric heating you would never be cold. Hot tub looking out to the scenic country side & the stars at night just wonderful. So quiet & private. Brenda & David go above & beyond they even arranged balloons & birthday banner & gorgeous cake with my hubby before we arrived. Shepherd pie on arrival was really tasty much appreciated just ready to pop in the oven. So peaceful & relaxing loved every minute of our stay. Will defiantly be back
-
"We had a wonderful stay over the Christmas period, comfortable, relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable."
The “hut” was excellent and exactly what we were after when booking. The weather wasn’t great but the accommodation was very cozy with and without the fire being on so no issues with anyone fancying a winter break. Due to Christmas dinner requirements I did bring some additional kitchen items from home which were necessary or we would have struggled with what was available (not a criticism) we would have been fine outwith Christmas… Our only preference would have been to have to hot tub a few degrees warmer. All in all a great stay, great hosts and would definitely recommend.
-
"A delightful place to stay for a relaxing retreat."
Warm and comfortable accommodation, bathroom small but adequate, the hut was clean and tidy and has a wonderful hot tub to relax in after a day in the hills. Shepherds Pie and wine left for us by the owners was a lovely touch. So relaxing to sit on the veranda beneath the setting sun, tucking into dinner, with the sheep winding their way across the field beside us and the rooks settling in for the night in the forest treetops. Perfectly peaceful, the silence was a joy through the night, and the sunrises were incredibly beautiful .
-
"Really friendly hosts, arriving to a shepherd's pie and bubbly was a lovely touch after a long drive."
Beautiful location and the hut was exactly as shown on the listing. We would 100% recommend to anyone that wants a quiet getaway in a lovely location but still have all the comforts of home and extra. The hot tub was the perfect way to end each day after lots of walking and kayaking. We only wish we were able to stay for longer, hopefully we can come back soon!
-
"On arrival we were greeted with shepherd's pie and a bottle of bubbly, which was very nice."
The location was peaceful and perfect for couples. The only downside was a load of cobwebs in the accommodation, but on the whole it is a very clean and tidy place
-
"Absolutely stunning view's."

The homemade Shepperd's pie is amazing that the owners leave for you was exquisite - The hot-tub was fantastic, enclosed, private and not overlooked with plenty of seating around the covered area - All in all a fantastic break, very relaxing and would definitely recommend to stay.

"Just returned from our honeymoon at Shepherds Retreat."
The place was amazing and exactly what we were looking for. We were spotted on arrival by David who made us feel very welcome and let us know he was around if we needed anything and then left us to it. The views from the hut and hot tub were beautiful. The hut had everything you could possibly need and was decorated beautifully with lovely little touches. Log burner was amazing and heated up in no time. Will definitely be looking to head back next year.
-
"Quirky comfy accommodation in a lovely setting providing peace an quiet."
We didn't really mind when it rained either as the Hotub was a great distraction. Ideal base for a 3 day stay to visit the various historic locations, or to even spend some time in the towns or villages. The owners Dave and Brenda were discreate but attentive to our needs, having set up prior to our arrival. If you are tired of the same old B&B or hotel give one of the properties a try we don't think you will be disappointed.
-
"Just returned from a wonderful weekend away, peaceful surroundings & wonderful views."
The accommodation was really cosy & comfortable well equipped with all that we required. The shepherds pie & bottle of fizz was a really nice surprise. The hot tub was a real delight. Look forward to returning again next year. Thank you :)
-
"We had a wonderful stay we only had 2 points that dampened our stay."
One being the matress, it dips on both sides, so you feel like your going to fall out the bed. I actually got a bad back from it. The second being while we was in the jacuzzi in the evening a tractor was wrapping hay feet from us and could see onto the tub. Other than these two issues our stay was amazing
-
"David was extremely friendly and helpful."
And the shepherds pie was delicious!
-
"My daughter and I enjoyed a 3 night stay at the end of August and we what such a wonderful time."
A beautiful setting, friendly and accommodating hosts and a gorgeous hut. David and Brenda could not have been more welcoming and even provided a smaller dressing gown for my daughter. The hot tub was clean and well maintained, the facilities In the hut were great and the homemade shepherd's pie for our arrival was lovely. We can't wait to come back!
-
"This is the most wonderful, peaceful place."
Little attentions to detail make it a superb stay. The shepherds pie and fizz, four person hot tub, slippers and dressing gown, decor and view made it a wonderful couple’s break. Would definitely recommend.
-
"Lovely little lodge right by a beautiful, big pond."
Very secluded which offers fantastic privacy. Hosts were friendly and on the other end of the phone when needing anything. Kitchen was well equipped. The bed was extremely comfortable and there were lovely little home touches around the lodge. Jacuzzi was a great bonus and the view was beautiful. Would definitely return.
-
"We have just arrived back today fom a 3 night honeymoon break at the High Rigg Shepherds Retreat."
An absolute gem of a place and will definitely return. Perfect well equipped hut, comfy bed and the hot tub was absolute fantastic. Brenda came to say hello on our arrival and was so lovely and friendly, she told us the shepherds pie and bottle of fizz was in the fridge the shepherds pie was delicious, ideal for your first nights tea. David popped round to say hello and was so friendly, was nice having a chat about the new hut he's busy building at the moment.
-
"It is an amazing little hut on superb grounds!"
And the hot tub is a massive plus. Will definitely be back
-
"Me and my fiancée had an amazing time and couldn't thank David enough for making us feel welcomed upon arrival and the hut was outstanding!"
!

"We had an amazing time."
The property is just beautiful and the scenery is spectacular, I’ve already recommended it to a lot of friends

"Lovely break away but left feeling a little disappointed."
Just came back from a 2-night stay at the Shepherds Retreat. David was lovely and very welcoming. We arrived to shepherd’s pie and prosecco in the fridge which was lovely. It is very secluded, perfect for a couples getaway. The views were stunning and we really enjoyed using the hot tub. The hut was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was fairly snug but modern. I would recommend taking your own mirror with you as there is only a tiny 10cm shaving mirror in the bathroom. As stated on the information that is left in the room, we were under the impression that our hot tub would be cleaned daily between 2-3pm however we woke both mornings to find it being cleaned between 8-9am which meant that we could not use it or sit outside and have breakfast privately on the morning as we planned to do. Considering we paid £439 for a 2-night stay which we were told was the price of a 3-night stay, we felt we were over charged. Checkout was at 10am on the final day but we woke at 8:30 to find our hot tub being emptied. This was disappointing as we wanted to use the hot tub before we left. I told David that we wanted to use it so he said he would come back later but he returned at 9:15 to empty and clean it as stated if he didn’t do so it would have been cold for the next guests. As we felt we had already overpaid and had paid to use all facilities until checkout time, we were left feeling disappointed and rushed to leave.
-
"So so incredible."
It had absolutely everything we needed, the views were stunning from every window and the hot tub. Can’t recommend enough, the owners were so so lovely and welcoming - they even left a fresh homemade shepherds pie for the both of us! The photos don’t do this place justice. It was the perfect getaway. Will definitely be returning!
-
"The accommodation is perfect in a lovely peaceful area."
Well kept and maintained with everything you need for a few days stay. The welcome Shepard’s pie left in the fridge was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend to visit.
-
"What an absolute gem of a find."
The special little touches really made our break away exceptional...from the little bag of toiletries to the shepherds pie and prosecco on arrival. This really is an idyllic setting for a couples break away. Thank you to our hosts David and Brenda, we will be back.
-
"Shepherds Retreat was exactly the restful, relaxing time away that we’d hoped for."
Gorgeous little retreat, perfectly well equipped with everything you’d need. Very clean & comfortable, lovely decor, fantastic views, private hot tub (glad we took spare towels, as although dressing gowns were provided, extra towels for the hot tub weren’t.) & both outdoor & undercover seating areas. It’s in a quiet area but only 20 mins drive into Carlisle. Close to quiet market town of Brampton. Perfect for some R&R. We’re definitely booking again.
-
"Brenda amd David are."
Both so lovely .....shepards pies that are left.for us were also yummy everything about the holiday was amazing we are booking our honeymoon to go bk there
-
"David and Brenda were fantastic- so warm and welcoming, and the place was just perfect."
-
"The hot tub was the best we have ever experienced."
The shepherds hut had a well equipped kitchenette area and we made good meals such as a roast pheasant and veg and a turkey curry so no issues. The bed was very comfy and very cosy with the log fire. I would say our downside was the bathroom size which was very restrictive for my husband being a slightly larger gentleman and struggled with the shower and the toilet. We loved the area so if we were to go again we would book the cottage. We had an issues with the shower on the first night but this was sorted as soon as we reported it so did not cause any problems. The shepherds pie made for our arrival was very lovely.
-
"We had a lovely time away at Christmas."
Shepherds pie and Prosecco on arrival. The bed was very comfy, the hut is small but was cosy. The hottub was great and the views were lovely. The logburner was amazing and really heated the room up. The only downside was no wifi and the TV reception was very poor. However we were told that 4G would work well. We would have been happy paying extra a day for wifi, but it does say in the description that wifi is only available at the main house, but with technology now a days you would expect it to be part of the package. I would definitely like to stay again and will save my data to use as a mobile hotspot. It was a perfect break away

"Stayed at the Shepherd Lodge for 3 nights on our Covid Honeymoon and what a great relaxing peaceful stay we had,."
The place was perfect. The hosts of the accommodation were really helpful, friendly and provided us with a lovely cottage pie and fizz on arrival. Shops about 3 miles away for yr provisions. Would highly recommend and would definitely stay again.
-
"We had a lovely stay, accommodation was beautifully put together and views were outstanding."
All the information provided, check-in & check-out process were clear and easy to follow. It was nice that the owners checked base to see if we were okay and if needed anything, but then were left to enjoy our stay thereafter. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed/wanted and as was the bathroom. Measurements to deal with COVID had clearly been put in place as well as daily checks of the hot tub. A few things would have made our stay even more enjoyable; 1. closer parking or better paving to the hut. 2. a larger (or fold-out) dining table - we like to play board games which was a bit tricky on the small table. 3. a bit more storage/shelving. Overall, this accommodation was perfect for us to escape for a long weekend, to play board games, watch films & relax in a hot tub.
-
"Getting to the retreat to find a home cooked shepards pie and bottle of fizz was a really nice twist and a great home comfort - it was really tasty too!"
The cottage was clean and cosy, it had everything we needed to make our stay fabulous! The hot tub was lovely and looking out onto the stars on the night was perfect as there are no other places near by with lighting which meant the sky was clear. We had a fantastic and memorable visit. The owners were lovely, we spoke to both and Brenda even made me a lovely bouquet of faux flowers for my home dining table as part of my partners request as it was our anniversary. Overall the stay was 5/5. Thank you for such a perfect location.
-
"Absolutely brilliant from start to finish, didn’t want to come home!"
Accommodation was very clean, lovely surroundings and very private. Was greeted with a lovely shepherds pie and a bottle of fizz on arrival. Greeted the first morning by the owner who was very friendly and advised us of things to do in the area. Overall a great break and can’t wait to go back next year!

"There are 2 parts to my review."
The first part regarding the stay..... The Shepherds hut is lovely, done to a good standard with amazing views over the hills and had an undercover hot tub. Set up on a hill in the peace and quiet, you couldn’t ask for more. We loved it so much so that on the way home we were looking to book again...... This takes me onto the 2nd part of my review...... We paid £414 for 3 nights, the same 3 nights next year and the owners want £1100!!!! Yes you read correctly £1100!!! The price has trippled! Now like most things I expect an increase year on year but to treble the price blew my mind. I felt at £414 it was priced about right, you can imagine my shock at seeing £1100!! This is not just for a the weekend I wanted in September. Every 3 night stay from about the end of March to the end of October is around the £1100 mark! Now dont get me wrong its nice but certainly not worth anywhere near that. I rang Sykes Cottages who confirmed that the owners had increased their prices. For me there are as nice if not nicer Shepherds huts around for a hell of alot less. Seems to me the owners have become greedy and possibly thinking people will be staying in UK next year aswell due to Covid-19. In a nutshell, lovely accommodation, very relaxing but feel the owners are taking advantage. I won’t be paying that amount thats for sure!!!!

"Wow! Absolutely amazing!"
! So comfortable and cosy, the views are amazing all around the land! Everything is perfect we couldn’t find any fault at all. David and Brenda are the perfect hosts, and the little shop onsite has some amazing things I’d definitely recommend having a browse! Hot tub was amazing, we used the bbq too but you’ll need to bring your own charcoal! We were greeted with a shepherds pie, box of chocolates as I’m gluten intolerant so couldn’t eat the pie and a bottle of fizz. We don’t want to go home and cannot wait to come back!! The decor inside the hut is perfect, literally everything was perfect!

"Beautiful lodge for a romantic break away."
Every little detail was covered. This was meant to be our ‘mini-moon’ but we sadly had to postpone our wedding to February, but it was the perfect 3 nights to get away that we needed. Stunning views, even nicer from the hot tub! Very clean and covid safe, will definitely recommend! Thank you

"This cottage was spotless when we turned up, all of the relevant equipment was there that you needed for your stay and instructions for most things was readily availible."
I had never used an electric stove top before and had to call the owner about how to use it who was more than happy to help. The hot tub maintenance was amazing he came out everyday to check the filters and water for you. I will definitely be booking back here again

"This little hut was really cute and cosy."
The area was really quiet and the view was lovely. A really nice hide away to relax. The hot tub was so nice and relaxing. The shepherd pie was tasty and the bottle of fizz a welcome drink for Christmas eve. It was decorated in a subtle way for Christmas. The only downside was that we could not find a DVD player when in the summary of facilities it said there was one and there was no folder of any instructions on any of the appliances and no information on local services eg. Drs, pharmacists etc. Not that we needed them. Other than that we had a lovely peaceful Christmas and i would definitely visit again and recommend it.

About the location
BRAMPTON, CUMBRIA
Carlisle 10 miles.
The market town of Brampton is the ideal base for exploring Hadrian’s Wall. The town boasts a rich and colourful history going back to the Roman occupation, Border reivers from Scotland and the Jacobite uprisings, plus bonnie Prince Charlie established his headquarters in one of the old buildings in Brampton. In the centre of the town is Moot Hall, which was built in 1817, and now houses the Tourist Information Centre, and there is a large motte to the east of the town, which is 135 feet high and has the statue of the 7th Earl of Carlisle on it. A few miles outside Brampton is Talkin Tarn Country Park. It covers 120 acres of farmland and woodland, 65 of which make up the Tarn, a 10,000 year old glacial lake, fed by underwater springs. Two miles away is Gelt Woods, which is an ancient woodland and RSPB nature reserve and has the River Gelt running through it. Brampton is a wonderful base for exploring this historic and scenic area.
