  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Fern Cottage."

Well equipped, great location in the middle for Bowness or Windmere. Comfy beds, fabulous bath and shower. Only little gripe is the bin in the kitchen needs a really good clean and there is not much space to put your food on in the kitchen as there are lots of personal effects on the shelves so personally I think they could be cleared to allow guests to put food on etc. but apart from that it was fab and we will be going back in the future.

  • "Fern Bank cottage was delightful."

It had everything you could possibly need for the four of us and the dog. It was great having the 2 bathrooms and the master bedroom was so spacious. The only tiny thing I could complain about is that the mattress in the master bedroom wasn't very comfortable, but that did not impact on our lovely break at all. The cottage is in good walking distance from Bowness and Windermere town. We highly recommend brunch at Rum Nicky Brunch Kitchen & Terrace, just a few mins walk from the house. It was fabulous. We would definitely be happy to return to this lovely cottage and would be happy to recommend it to family and friends.

Only 10/15 min stroll either way. Was parking space outside when we arrived and welcome bottle of wine. Didn’t need to take the car out as public transport so good and bus stops at the end of the road. Lovely homely accommodation with everything you needed for restful stay. Weather was dry for the most part. Highly recommend a stay at this property.

Would be cramped for 4 people. Great location within easy walk of bars, shops and restaurants. There are also some walks from the door. The large bed in the main bedroom needs replacing as it has had its day I would suggest. Would consider staying here again in the future.

Would stay again. BUT The only thing was the mattress in the front bedroom, it is so hard and uncomfortable that I had back ache all week until I got home. Really does need replacing as fell walkers do need a comfortable bed at the end of a day.

However, the leak coming from the skylight completely ruined the stay for us. After I reported it the first time, somebody came out to patch it over yet they managed to leave a large gap at the top still allowing water to drip in. At this point I were past it and just kept lots of towels down over night. The company rang the following morning to check and I explained that there were a gap left enabling water to still leak into the cottage. Someone else came later that day to resolve it. That was all sorted as far as the leak from the skylight however it left the cottage looking really dark even in full day light. As the week progressed, the weather continued to rain the whole time. The last 2 nights in the cottage the weather was so bad that the wood placed over the broken skylight was that soaked with rain it managed to proceed to leak onto the top of the stairs again. After reporting this twice we decided that the best option would be to just leave a towel covering the affected area. Usually it wouldn’t worry me however I have got an 8 month old who I was petrified of carrying downstairs incase I slipped and dropped him due to the leak. Apart from the leak the cottage was really nice.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. Storm Debi caused a lot of problems during the week that you visited and meant that complete repairs were not possible due to needing fair weather for this. We feel that our maintenance team did the best they could given the circumstances. We are glad that you otherwise enjoyed the property. Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

The accommodation was in a good central location 10 mins walk in either direction of Windermere and bowness. Fern bank had all the facilities to make our stay very comfortable the bedrooms were a good size and bedding was clean. Kitchen had everything we needed including a washing machine dryer and a good sized fridge the dishwasher was a bonus Weather at the time was very wet and cold, so the heating around the house was a blessing. The fire in the sitting room kept us warm and cozy during our stay. Overall the accommodation and location were very good and will definitely stay at fern bank again.

There is a great walk for our dog straight across the road which was ideal for her to stretch her legs! For us, the bed is a little on the hard side but that is just our personal preference. We were slightly confused at the bin collection service, as it was noted as Monday, originally this was Tuesday. We were staying the week of the Queens funeral, so it may have skewed timings. When we looked online it wasn't until the following week, so perhaps clearer instructions for that, but it didn't impact our stay. Thanks again.

It’s perfect for couples and small families and it’s location it great, right bang smack between Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere and only a few minutes walk to the areas best restaurants, bars and lakeside. The only thing I would say is the house needs to be better cleaned before guests turn up. When we arrived we found personal items below the master bed, the dining room floor needed a proper mopping with bleach we found in the bathroom and there was still a lot of dust in areas, especially upstairs. With that said, we still had a relaxing stay and hope to return one day.

It is a beautiful house, well positioned as its half way up the hill between Bowness and Windermere villages. The house is very well equipped. It includes a dishwasher, plenty of kitchen utensils to cover the week stay, washing machine, dryer and clothes line in the lovely back yard. We received a complimentary welcome pack on arrival with 2 black bin bags, a scrubber and dishwasher tablet. Some condiments such as salt and pepper also available as wad a very well stocked drawer with cling film, sandwich bags and tin foil. Parking is on-road and we never had an issue getting a spot. The house is located on the right hand side as you drive into Queens drive....sat nav sent us further along the road. Fantastic bus local service either bus stop at top of road. Some lovely restaurants and bars in the area also alongside some lovely walks and the house provided loads of local information. Check out is 10am and as we left at 10am, the cleaner was waiting to get into house. A welcome, warm, clean holiday home which matched its description and I would recommend it. Would definitely return.

Lovely little garden for the dog and we had a super holiday. The only issue was with the bin collection. The folder said Monday collection and the poster on the side of the fridge said Tuesday. We put the bin out on both of those days but there was no collection. We noticed all the bins out on Thursday morning so put ours out too but it was not emptied. The cottage seems to have a different bin from the other properties as they were all emptied. So unfortunately we have had to leave it full which is not great for the next residents. Very sorry but we tried!

So gorgeous and we honestly felt so at home! IT WAS BEAUTIFUL. Honestly loved it. We couldn't find a pen to write in the visitors book :( left it to the last minute. I think there are a couple of cleanliness issues - lots of dust/hairs under beds/baskets/sofa, lipstick on a coffee cup. I am not complaining (!) I just think these little things let it down slightly. Also, as a recommendation, if a listing is child friendly I think there should be gates - on the stairs for this house and before the two steps down to the kitchen. That would make those staying with younger children feel a bit more at ease. The cottage exceeded our expectations - I always think the pictures make it look better than it is but this had me going into each room saying WOW. If this property is ever up for sale, please let me know LOL.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We were very pleased to see how much you enjoyed Fern Bank. Lakelovers look after the cleaning for this owner and we have made our Housekeeping Team aware of the few issues you found, but we are happy it did not spoil your holiday. Property Owner
