  • "The house was disappointing, from the pictures, all showers was very small, beds just double, and the bathroom was so small and very very cold."

There was no kitchen roll holder or tea, coffee, sugar canisters, TVs not working in bedroom. The hand rails on the stairs was very dirty I had to clean them with wipes. Needs updating in bedrooms

We are sorry that you were disappointed with your stay at Oldfield House and are a little confused with your comments. Two bedrooms have King-size beds, en-suites are adequate with one room having a double shower. We do however intend to update the en-suites in 2025. There is no stand alone bathroom, there is modern downstairs WC with a radiator. The TVs should have worked and if not contact with Lakelovers would have given us the opportunity to rectify any issue. We will review the kitchen roll holder but do not intend to provide canisters due to hygiene issues with high numbers of guests. The staircase handrails are not dirty and your "cleaning" with wipes only removes the wood stain. We note that someone in your party had been unwell with evidence of vomit in the downstairs WC and en-suite sink and bedding. We did not charged for the additional cleaning. Property Owner

  • "Generally the accommodation was excellent and pleasant to stay in."

Everything you needed. I slept in the top bedroom and it was very basic in comparison to other bedrooms. And I found the bed really hard and it did affect my sleep , unfortunately. Could I suggest a mattress topper. I ended up sleeping on pillows to soften it. At least with a mattress topper it could be removed if not required by people who like a hard bed. It’s my only criticism.

Thank you for your review. We are pleased that your party enjoyed your stay at Oldfield House. In light of yours and previous comments we are replacing the mattress in the top floor bedroom. Stephanie and Jon Property Owner

  • "We were a family of 8 staying at the property for a 1 week holiday August 2024."

Pros - Property is in a good location close to Windermere village and easy walking distance also 15-20 minute walk down to Bowness. The house is spacious with lots of room for larger families. Kitchen facilities are good and had all required utensils. Cons- The heating was not working properly on the first night, despite it being summer due to the weather conditions lots of rain the heating was needed to warm up the property. The loft bedroom needs some tlc, mattress on bed was really tired and uncomfortable, window in this bedroom did not close properly, radiator wasn’t working properly and toilet blocked. This took a few days for someone to come round and unblock the toilet and fix the radiator. We were advised the window could not be fixed. Due to the radiator not working properly and the broken window this made the room very cold. The loft bedroom has en-suite, however due to slanted ceiling it would be difficult to get in and out of the bath so had to use one of the showers in the other bedrooms. Our family member went home from the holiday early due to this bedroom having the above issues and lack of comfort. The outside security light was also not working properly which I reported but was not fixed throughout the holiday. This resulted in the light flashing on and off throughout the night and directly into the back bedroom. The first bedroom on the first floor also had uncomfortable mattress and bathroom in need of updates. If you have small children with you as we did there was no high chair or cot that we could locate in the property. We have been to other cottages where this is standard. I did not see any pre arrival information advising we would need to book these pieces of equipment. There was no welcome information in the house, we know lots about the local area but other guests may find this helpful e.g places to visit, restaurants, supermarkets, health services etc. or who to contact if we needed assistance, hence why we needed to contact Sykes with the issues. There was only one set of keys available and although there was a key safe outside this would not practically work when you need to lock the back door from the inside if some guests are in the house and others not. Unfortunately I would not stay at this property again which is a shame as the house is in a great location.

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at Oldfield House. Just giving some context and clarity:- we do not advertise that we provide high chairs or cots and would advise you make adequate arrangements yourself in the future. The security light was not reported to us. Lakelovers contacted us with your other issues and we responded within a couple of hours of that call. The toilet was blocked with excessive toilet paper and cleared when flushed and assisted with the toilet brush. The radiator was bled and it was not possible to fix the window. It should be noted that this window was an upper small window and the lower window operated perfectly. We are sorry that you found some mattresses uncomfortable, we have a programme of updating mattresses to try and offer guests a comfortable stay. It is really disappointing that you state some of your party felt it necessary to cut short their stay, due to the "lack of comfort". We do provide some guest information but will review the content in light of your comments. We provide a front and back door key to the property and have never had any guest issues. We note that you also had issues with the blinds in the lounge (not reported) as these were broken when the cleaning was completed. It is also noted that you must have struggled with the heating as the property was stifling hot the day you checked out with the heating on in the high 20 degrees. We hope that you find accommodation that fits your needs in the future. Stephanie and Jon Property Owner

  • "Overall the stay was good."

There was no soap or shower gel. One of the taps in one of the bedrooms was in poor condition. Dishwasher needed salt and rinse aid and did not clean great. The bathroom in the very top room is really not usable as it is so tight in there. Great location, excellent size rooms downstairs and bedroom sizes were good. Thank you for our stay.

Thank you for your comments. We do not provide shower gel and will ensure our cleaning team maintain the provided handwash and ensure the dishwasher is functioning correctly. The tap you reported has now been tightened. Unfortunately the house and room sizes are as they are but we hope that generally the accommodation meets the needs of family/friends groups. • "Lovely spacious accommodation."

The house is well positioned for walks to Bowness or Windermere and the bus stop for trips further afield is a short walk away. The only improvements would be better quality towels, some of them were very small and thin.

  • "We had such a lovely stay."

It was a real home from home. Everything was just perfect. A really great location too. The home was beautifully presented. We also had 3 generations staying so the downstairs bathroom was a real bonus.

  • "Really good house - comfortable, spacious, pretty well equipped."

Good parking and a friendly and responsive owner as well. Two points to note. First, the doors are very heavy - generally fine, but we have young kids who struggled to open them. Could be sorted out with some doorstops! Second, there is no entertainment there (books, games, jigsaws, maps etc). May be worth providing.

  • "Oldfield House is a great place to stay, we were a group of 6 adults and there was plenty of space for all of us without getting under each others feet."

Every bedroom being en-suite was a real bonus. The house has just about everything you need to cook meals at home, but it's also a great base to go and eat out without having to take a car. The only 2 things that could be added was an oven glove in the kitchen and maybe recommendations of where is good to eat or places to visit. We would highly recommend staying here and would definitely stay again.

One of the best places we have ever stayed and I would highly recommend to anyone, the photos do not do it justice! There were four adult couples staying and we all loved our own bedrooms and bathrooms and the space we had. Will definitely be coming back - thank you, we loved it!

Perfect spot. Only downfall mattresses too soft. Didn’t have one full night sleep & the majority of us woke up with back ache. We have 2 young children. Could do with a double bed that could can convert to single beds.
