Some new furniture, nice comfy recliner sofas, new mattresses, very comfy, best night's sleep I have genuinely had in years! Could have been a bit cleaner, long standing dust webs hanging from dining room ceiling and across some walls, not new ones!Shame about the lovely rose bush, a better outdoor seating/facilities would have been nice, bench gone.Otherwise a lovely quiet and comfy stay.

It was very comfortable and well equipped, great to have the washing machine. Lovely, quiet area only ten minutes walk to restaurants and shops , a couple of minutes walk to a lovely café, The Mission cafe , definitely recommend.Enjoyed having the DVDs to watch in the evenings. Very comfortable beds. The garden was lovely and well kept and we spent a lot of time sitting outside after our busy days as we were blessed with gorgeous weather. The only downside was the lack of proper garden chairs, there were only two folding chairs for three of us and they were not comfortable, luckily we had picnic chairs with us to supplement. All in all a great stay and we would definitely return.

We find it is an excellent location for exploring Windermere, Bowness and beyond. The house is comfortable, well equipped and there is plenty of parking outside in a quiet neighbourhood. If we were back in Windermere, Silverthwaite would be our first choice for accommodation.

Thank you for your kind feedback, we very much look forward to welcoming you back to our cottage in the near future. Property Owner

  • "On arrival the cottage was clean and fresh, seemed to be well equipped and ideal for our holiday."

In general this was the case, however it states that there is a washing machine at the property, we therefore packed accordingly thinking we would be able to wash clothes whilst there if necessary. As with all cottages we stay in there is a set of towels provided for each person which is sufficient if you can wash and dry them so we didn't take extra, on the second evening of our stay we decided we would wash and dry the towels so that we had fresh towels the next day, however once the washing cycle was complete we couldn't get the washing machine door to open, we ran the programme again and still it wouldn't open leaving us with no towels for the following day. It was a Monday bank holiday so when we called it was the emergency number and in fairness to the lady at the cleaning company she was very helpful and said she would try and get some towels to us and would try and get the washing machine fixed. However by Thursday no one had been to look at the washing machine so we called again, the owner was contacted and his response was that only one set of towels is provided per stay and that the washing machine was a luxury item so he wasn't getting it fixed. as far as i am concerned if the description of the cottage states that there is a washing machine then it should be working and certainly isn't a luxury item if that is what you have paid for in your weeks holiday rental. We have stayed in lots of cottages and i am very disappointed with the owners attitude, he'd had our money and wasn't bothered if we had a good stay or not, there is no visitor book in the property and no maintenance issues book either which we've had at every other property we have stayed at so that you can make a note for the owner if something is broken, this owner is clearly not interested. So i wouldn't stay here again simply because the attitude of the owner as so uninterested. Points to note; The light switch in one of the bedrooms doesn't work so no main light just bedside lamps. Toilet seat in the en suite moves about (this has been mentioned before and clearly not been fixed). There is a very low doorway into the en suite, some has taped a piece of foam along the door frame, a messy and unsuccessful solution to the problem as my husband knocked his head on the frame and grazed it. To sum up, apart from the washing machine issue the property is very nice, and we had a very nice holiday despite me tripping falling down the stairs (rail only on one side)and being blue lighted to Lancaster hospital 9pm on the weds night, thanks to the ambulance team that arrived within half an hour, they where amazing as were the hospital staff. I have a fractured wrist, a black eye & lots of bruises and concussion!! We did have a good holiday and will visit the lakes again just not Silverthwaite Cottage. .

Both the bathroom and en-suite smelt damp. En-suite toilet seat slips off toilet when sat on. Driveway inaccessible at times due to local residents using the street as a van park, not owners fault but should be noted.

Gave us an excellent base to explore Windermere and beyond. Some reviews have mentioned difficulty in getting a car into the drive, and I would say that you do need a precise ability to reverse in when other vehicles park on the road outside in awkward locations. This is hardly the fault of the property and it didn’t prevent us parking.

  • "The cottage is in an ideal location (walkable to the centre of Windemere and Bowness) and had everything we needed."

It is a nice size, if a little dated. We got lucky with some fabulous warm weather at Easter so fitted in many long walks and happily sat out in the garden later in the day. There was restricted on-road parking on Nelson Road/Park Road for the last 3 days of our stay due to roadworks (will also be 5 days for whoever is booked after us). However I found parking on the driveway to be fine (mine is a large saloon car), but can see how larger/SUVs might struggle.

  • "We loved the cottage and we would stay again in the future."

Good location and walkable to Bowness. Just a couple of comments. The centre light fitting in the dining room did not work which was a shame. The shower in the main bathroom was ok but it was difficult to contain the spray to the bath and the bathroom floor did get wet. Parking was tight but we did manage to get the car onto the drive most nights. This was due to the inconsiderate parking of the local van owners and beyond the property owners control.

We are really pleased you enjoyed the stay at our cottage. The cleaning company should have raised the issue with the dining room light with us, but unfortunately they did not, but we have now fixed this issue for future guests. I hope it didn't spoil your stay at all. Kind Rgds Property Owner

The en suite doorway entrance going up & down the steps is lethal (speaking from experience, being over 6ft tall) & suited to someone about 5 ft high. There is insufficient warning of a low doorway on the outside of the door & only a small sign on the inside of the door, also the sponge "protection" on top of the door frame is painted the same colour as the door frame, it needs painting a different colour to highlight the hazard. The metal warning sign on the inside of the frame is tarnished & almost illegible. Kitchen would benefit from a teapot & bread/cake tin etc. Property in a good location for walking into town. Parking on the drive is only for 2 very small cars as the gateway is very narrow. We have been with Sykes in several locations, but the Lake District properties always seem to be of a lower standard.

  • "A spacious house a short walk to Windermere."

We arrived to the sound of the smoke alarm ringing (new batteries required) and a pile of post (just glad we hadn't waited until 5pm to try and check in as it was clear no-one had been in the house). We then moved one of the single beds and the carpet underneath was filthy. So we spent the first afternoon hoovering, shopping for batteries and tea towels (we stay in a lot of self catering properties and I've never known not to have tea towels and oven gloves provided). The bathroom floor was in need of a really good clean and the fridge has drainage issues which meant when we arrived there was a lot of staining inside. As others have said, we also struggled to put the car on the drive for 3 days due to the local vans and cars parked on the road immediately opposite. We felt the house needed some TLC which is a shame as it's spacious and in a decent location.

00pm) which we felt that in winter when it is dark at around 4.00pm was too late, it made it rather awkward firstly finding the house, then parking in the driveway when there was cars parked either side of the drive, then trying to access the key box and code in the dark.

Hi Michael, many thanks for your feedback, we fully understand your frustration around check in and check out times. Unfortunately we are at the mercy of the cleaning companies, they have had staffing issues ever since the pandemic. Around the parking, once again, we have no control over street parking. We have however, very recently added some solar lighting to help alleviate the issue around arriving in the dark, but I believe this was done after your visit. I'm really pleased you enjoyed your last visit and we very much look forward to welcoming you to your cottage again in the near future. Property Owner

The main comment would be that the driveway was classed as big enough to place two cars, but they would have to be small cars, it is very tight for a bigger car. Also, the way residents park on the road makes it difficult to manoeuvre in and out safely. Someone needs to guide the driver from the road. The cottage is spacious and light and pleasant. • "Whilst the bathrooms, kitchen surfaces and beds were clean, the rest of the property was not."

Surfaces VERY dusty, several items in the kitchen needed to be washed (mold in a cereal bowl), there were crumbs from the previous guests all over the dining table and although the floor had been mopped, floor cleaner had been spilled in the hallway resulting in a sticky mess. We read between the lines of the property details and realised the "patio" was actually the table next to the front door, but do feel this description is misleading. It is not a place to gaze "over to the distant hills", you are sat in a residential street with cars parked on both sides of the road. Silverthwaite is listed as having parking for two cars, this is only if they are VERY small, our family estate took up most of the driveway. Access to the driveway is somewhat tight, especially with cars and vans parked on both sides of the road. The cottage guest information folder has been written in by a previous guest stating that they found the electrical system to be unsafe, this was quite an alarming thing to read on arrival, although we couldn't establish what this was referring to. Future guests should note that the property has no hair dryer and no recycling facilities - other homes on the street had recycling boxes outside, our guest info folder merely stated to take cardboard, tins and glass to the nearest public bins in the Broad Street car park. Also, to note, there is only one half width cupboard available in the kitchen to pack your food away in to, we ended up storing our food in boxes on the dining room floor. Location is convenient for High Street shops etc in Windermere or the lake in Bowness itself, that being said we would not recommend the property to anyone.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Other clients have found that our cleaning company do an extremely good job, so it seems this is an isolated occurrence. However, in general the cleaning contractors have coped will with the additional work during Covid and with Covid isolation causing staff shortages. I am sorry that you found the property of a lower standard than you (and we) expect and will investigate what has happened. The patio is outside the patio doors and is accessed from the dining room. Although not large, it has a table, bench and chairs for you to enjoy the air and see the hills in the distance. I am sorry it was not to your liking. I believe the location of the patio is shown on photographs of the property on the booking websites We have parked our family estate and a mid-range car quite comfortably on the drive. Unfortunately, we have no control on who parks on the road outside the property, but we have never had issues accessing the drive as they do tend to park very considerately. In the week immediately preceding your own, there was an electrical fault, and this was resolved within 2 days. The comments in folder were obviously written by this guest. Rest assured, the fault was repaired and the electrics in the house are safe. Please note that the house does have a hairdryer, and it is kept in the chest of drawers in the main bedroom. It may be that the previous guest moved it, or removed it. We will investigate this and replace if necessary. The local District council collect the rubbish weekly, arrangements for a business are different to a residential property as all rubbish is collected in one bin, sorted at the waste depot and recycled accordingly. You are not required to take recycling elsewhere, it was just merely a suggestion if you wanted to use the local recycling facilities. We have a well fitted and well supplied kitchen with dishwasher, fridge freezer, washing machine and dryer. Unfortunately this means that cupboard space is limited. Once again, thank you for your comments Property Owner

Lovely clean cooker and full size fridge freezer . Very good shower in en suite, didn’t use the one in the bathroom. Location between Windermere and Bowness was very handy and both walkable from cottage. A few small things on the downside but nothing that would stop us using the cottage again. The sash windows were difficult to open and the 10.5 tog duvet was far too hot. Also, a plug near the mirror would be very handy.

The house was a mixture of modern and old furniture with all mod cons. 10/15 mins walk into Windermere for supermarkets, shops, coffee shops, bars and restaurants. Another 1.5 miles into Bowness. Quiet and peaceful area. Good internet connection. Hot water at all times for both showers. The heating seemed a bit odd with the timer coming on in the day and dim lighting in the bathrooms, other than that no problems. We were out most of the time walking the mountains, hill and fells. Did not use the oven as we eat out. Good quality kitchen amenities. Well kept gardens and nice small seating area by the front door. There is a large park close by for children and a new playground is being built. There were only two of us and think the lounge may be small for 4 adults. All in all a good week and would stay here again.

The only issue was we arrived at 3.45 and let ourselves in and the cleaning team arrived at same time giving 15 minutes to clean a cottage! There were 5 of them but under present covid circumstances the cottage could not have been cleaned to correct standard. Obviously the previous guests had left cottage clean and tidy so job was easier for them. That aside, I would recommend cottage 100% if this was revised.
