"We had a fantastic stay at Frost, it had all the facilities needed to prepare a meal, the views are spectacular and the bed very comfortable."
A great location to catch the ferry over to Bowness either by car or by foot. A couple of pubs within walking distance, The cuckoo’s brow and The Tower Bank Arms, we ate a couple of times at The Tower Bank Arms and it was truly fabulous, the staff are very welcoming and there’s a great atmosphere, we didn’t eat at The Cuckoo’s Brow but it was friendly and the food looked good. The cottage has some lovely walks directly from the door so great that you don’t always have to use the car. This was our second visit and we look forward to returning again in the future.

"Such a lovely place to stay directly on Windermere for a couple."
Me and my partner went for a birthday getaway and we could not have found a better place to stay. The ferry across to Bowness is frequent and super easy, though we also travelled around the lakes without using the ferry. The area is quiet and a perfect place for a range of hikes. It took us just about an hour to drive to Keswick, and under 30 minutes to Ambleside, so it’s a great location for any activities you wish. It’s not super close to a pub or shops, but that was fine by us as we would plan meals in advance. The only issues we had was there being a limited amount of bin liners and dishwasher tablets, and the batteries for the TV remote were starting to die. It’s also worth noting that the double bed is two single beds pushed together which can be uncomfortable if you are a couple that sleep closely together. Overall, a wonderful place to stop - will definitely be stopping again!

"I was very disappointed to discover that the fridge had not been repaired since I stayed previously in September 23."
The freezer box door fell off then whenever you opened it. This year there was NO door on the freezer box, so everything in the fridge froze, or if you turned it down a little you ended up mopping up pools of water every day. Last year I also pointed out that the outside light wasn't working, and that also was true this year. The washing machine door then broke and wouldn't open. I called the local office for some help, but, unsurprisingly no one turned up. I had to leave the cottage when I checked out with some of my clothes still inside.the washing machine! I contacted the local office again, and explained, again. This time I said I expected them to send my clothes to my home address, free of charge. Whether they will I have no idea. Watch this space! The cottage is in a lovely spot with lots of good walks and I was eager to return again this year. I just hope the owners can get their act together and sort out some of the niggles. Cheap it is not!!?

"Frost is a beautiful cottage in a gorgeous location right on the edge of Lake Windermere."
There was easy access to the lake to launch our inflatable canoe. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. It would be so much better if the trees and shrubs which blocked the sunshine and spoilt the view of the lake were removed. Also the ice box door in the fridge no longer exists so the fridge is inefficient.

"Cant fault the place and location stunning only probs i had was drivers crossing ..."
Cant fault the place and location stunning only probs i had was drivers crossing on ferry parking outside cottages blocking you in as no road sign and the road markings are faded mentioned this last year to no responce not sure if its down to property or council to rectify thanks paul and paula

"Bed was uncomfortable."
Sofa on the small side. Dust/balls of fluff under the sofa and in the corner of the bedroom. Some items missing on the inventory. Other than that the location was perfect and everything else was great. Would definitely recommend staying here.

"I had a lovely stay in Frost, all the facilities were clean and I had no issues with anything inside the property."
Although the kettle could do with replacing as I was unable to use it due to metal fragments breaking off from the base of the inside of the kettle. Excellent locations, was able to launch my paddleboard from the slipway used by the ferry. Ferry is on your doorstep so it’s very handy for popping into Windermere. A little noisy due to building work and drilling outside but all within reasonable hours. Will definitely be coming back.

"We had no hot water for 3 days or internet for days reported it and it never got sorted was very unhappy with the service!"
!!
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that the issue with the hot water was not picked up. It was a miscommunication and has been looked into to ensure this does not occur again. Unfortunately, the wi-fi was an issue with BT and they were unable to get an engineer out during your stay. Lakelovers Owner Team Property Owner

"The bed wasn’t unzipped to make two despite confirmation from Sykes."
No correct bedding available for two single beds and nothing delivered until next day. No hot water or heating on second day as internal boiler failed then again on penultimate day when main boiler failed. Both corrected fairly quickly.
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you had these disruptions and errors during your stay, but are glad to read that they were all resolved speedily by our teams. Lakelovers Owner Team Property Owner

"Not sure why we weren't informed about the lack of heating before we arrived."
You were aware that the heating wasn't working, It was us who had to contact you on to arrange for heaters to be delivered. We were told that an engineer would call on the Monday..they never did. We had contact again and were told you would let us know what was happening...we never heard back. Not impressed with the service..this was our third time we stayed but did it spoil our break.

"We loved our week away at frost for my husbands birthday."
We didn't want to leave haha. There is so much to do in the area and loved the fact there is the little ferry just outside to take us to bowness. Our little dog Brodie loved it too and everywhere is so dog friendly. Cannot wait to book again.

"Beautiful property in a beautiful location."
Accommodation very comfortable, fully equipped kitchen and lovely welcome pack. One night pur heating and hot water stopped working, rang the team and they sent someone out within 20 minutes. Unfortunately he couldn't fix the fault however he did leave two electric heaters until the problem could be fixed. Next day another engineer came out and resolved the problem quickly, Ellen from the property maintenance team was very helpful too and kept us informed on when the engineer would call etc. It didn't spoil our stay at all, unfortunately these things happen. I would definitely book to stay here again without hesitation.

"The best place we have stayed in this year very comfortable extremely clean and after a horrid wet Christmas 2023 weather wise it was so warm to come back to each day ."
The view was very relaxing great to wake up to each morning. We know this area very well we could not have picked a better holiday home .Thankyou
-
"Our second year at Frost we absolutely love it here."
The location is so perfect. There is everything you need and it was clean. We had a couple of minor issues which were quickly sorted. We have already booked for next year. However, it does need a new kettle as it full of bits and the icebox is broken. We are already looking forward to coming back next year
-
"Hoover not working properly."
Splashes of something on back of lounge curtains. Freezer door broken. Patio door fastening on bottom broken. Boiler didn’t work on Tuesday evening so no heating or hot water. Fridge and floors not very clean. A lot of long hairs about particularly on tea towels. Left early on Wednesday. Great location but very disappointed with cottage overall.
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that the cottage was not to your liking. We take all comments seriously and will pass them on to be looked in to. The owner relations team - Lakelovers Property Owner

"Lovely cottage as a base for exploring the Lake District"
-
"Lovely cottage in a fabulous location."
I will definitely be back.

"It was a nice little place but wouldn’t stay here again unfortunately."
I know the place accepts dogs but it just smelt really badly of wet dog as well as the sofa and left our clothes smelly! It seemed as though it had tried to be masked with air fresheners but didn’t work! All the kitchen equipment is greasy and covered in hairs and needed washing before we could use it. The kettle had black bits in it when we tried to make tea so seems as though the coating is coming off! The bed was horrible!! Hairs all in the bed, the duvet and pillows. Brown stains on the bedding and looked like it had been dragged on the floor before putting on the bed. We had to shake it all out outside before we went to bed! Not what you want to be doing on holiday! The floor is also really dirty throughout, dead flies in the corners and just dirty. All round the skirting is dirty as well as in the wardrobe door runner! I spilt some water on the floor and after wiping it up with kitchen roll it was just black! Just needs a really good clean!! We loved the welcome hamper but would have liked a little pint of milk in the fridge too which we have had in all other places we have stayed I. With Sykes. After a really long journey, arriving late and being so far out of everything it would have been a nice touch to have some milk left in the fridge for our arrival so we could have a cuppa!! Overall if it was cleaned thoroughly and a bit more attention to detail was taken it would be a lovely place. Unfortunately not for us.

"Only things i could pick on is larger tv and keep clear sign on road outside ..."
Only things i could pick on is larger tv and keep clear sign on road outside need repainting as people park in front of accomadation which is no fault of property overall very nice

"The place is amazing so relaxing."
Took the SUP which you can get on the lake right by your door. Excellent walks nearby. The view was amazing - just perfect would definitely book again
-
"Extremely disappointed to discover that instead of the lakeside view that we thought we had paid for, instead there were overgrown shrubs to look at from the terrace."
No help from owner or Sykes to rectify or compensate. A few other issues: the water boiler made the house unbearably hot even with heating off. Bedding was winter type so not comfortable. The KEEP CLEAR road markings were worn away outside so you could be waiting for 30 minutes to park your car when the ferry is busy. Some basics missing: tea towels, oven gloves, sugar supply. Fridge freezer compartment door broken. Kitchen door not fitted properly. Upside: bed and furniture comfortable. Well located for lakes. Could be so much better.
We appreciate the time taken to send your observations. We are sorry that you were disappointed with the view of the lake however the owner did not want to risk damage to nesting birds. We are glad that you found the amenities comfortable. Lakes Cottage Holidays Owner Relations Property Owner

"Superb 4 nights away!"
Modern and spacious, great location as well for a chilled week with the ferry only being 10 mins from the town. Will definitely return in the future.
-
"This is one of the nicest places we’ve stayed in."
The location is wonderful and the view from apartment and balcony is lovely looking out onto inlet of Lake Windermere and moored boats. Calm and peaceful and plenty of birds to watch too. The accommodation is modern and tasteful. One area to be warned about is that this is close to a small car ferry (which is very useful) so you could get caught in a short queue when trying to get to park at accommodation especially in high season. This is mentioned in description though.
Thank you for your kind comments, we are so pleased to see that you had a lovely stay and enjoyed the views! We hope to welcome you again. The Lakes Cottage Holidays Owner Relations Team Property Owner

"Getting to parking bay on arrival was tricky as car ferry was busy ."

"Our stay at Frost Cottage was totally idyllic, we could have stayed another week and look forward to booking again in the near future."
It really is a perfect spot, the Tower Bank Arms within walking distance is great, the ambiance, the food but most of all the staff who go above and beyond. Having the ferry on the doorstep was good, Far Sawrey is a lovely quiet spot but if you fancy a bit more then Bowness is just over the lake, only ten minutes and plenty going on and only a pound each way with dogs going free.
-
"Your accommodation is amazing, thank you!"
The view to wake up to each morning was lovely and great that it is dog friendly. Super accessible from lake windemere too we got the ferry across a couple of times. The boiler broke on the Thursday morning but this was quickly fixed so thank you so much.
-
"Lovely property and beautiful location with a view of boats and lake."
Clean and comfortable property with good walks nearby.
-
"Really lovely place to stay, lovely location, really quiet and peaceful (except for the geese sometimes lol)."
Loved the ferry on our doorstep. The welcome pack was a nice touch. Only downside, there was a smell when we arrived but thankfully had read another review that mentioned the smelly rug so we rolled it up in bags and thankfully no more smell.
-
"Wonderful cozy cottage."
Spotlessly clean. Loved the super king size bed. Views amazing. No negative comments. Would definitely return.
-
"Pros; Perfect Spot- Well Furnished-Clean-Complete Kitchen-Warm-Parking."
Cons; Difficult to control upstairs heating- Most Restaurants Facilities across the lake- 20.50 last ferry in winter-£5 each way- Limited Facilities this side of the Lake-
-
"It was our third visit so it must say something."
As I have previously mentioned before the keep clear signs outside need some serious refurbishment but being off season not so much a problem. Don't rely on the welcome pack being there they can be hit and miss.
-
"Second time we have stayed."
First time in 2020 in Pearsall anc now in 2023 this time in one of the cottages that accept pets in Frost cottage. Another lovely stay. Great to get to on road or by ferry. Straight to your own designated parking bay. Can’t really fault it. The adjoining doors we aren’t bothered about but this time could hear next door neighbours quite loudly watching football which naturally set our dog off. The hot water seemed to be fine until last day when it was on and off the hot water but not a huge issue as we were leaving by 10am. Naturally Wear and tear in bathroom near shower plaster and water damage, but that’s to be understood with the many guests it has. Everything you really need for a stay in the lakes and thank you for courtesy call too!
-
"Excellent cottage for couples, overlooking the lake."
Very clean, warm and cozy.
-
"We just spent 7 nights at Christmas in this lovely cottage ."
..it was so cosy ,clean ...the views were amazing , waking up to the sight of the boats outside too ... and the bed ! What a relaxing 7 nights sleep an absolute dream ... well done and thankyou for the lovely Christmas Hamper ☺️
-
"Lovely and comfortable little cottage, perfect location and very clean."
The only issue is that the kitchenware needs a little updating (some pans, kettle and baking dish need replacing)
-
"This was our 2nd visit to Frost so we knew what we were going to."
.. 2nd visit should speak for itself.. The only issue I have was the deterioration of the KEEP CLEAR signs on the road. The waiting Ferry traffic continually park on them because they are hardly readable making it difficult to get on and off your parking bay. The owners need to approach the local council or whoever is responsible to have them relined.
-
"From the moment we walked into Frost we feel in love with the place."
It was spotlessly clean and had everything we might need (exept scissors). Stunning scenery from every window. So so peaceful. Amazing walks from doorstep, we hardly used the car. Really comfortable bed, lovely bathroom. Absolutly fantastic. If I was being really picky, the dishwasher had no salt so wouldnt work, patio doors not shutting easily and heating timer not working. BUT none of this impeded our holiday. Will be booking Frost again next year. Best accomodation we have ever had.
-
"We have stayed in these cottages every year for the past few years, they are lovely cottages with ideal location for fantastic views."
Will be returning again next year.
-
"Love the cottage and the positioning, it was well appointed and comfortable."
Only one thing that I doubt Sykes could do anything about is that I could not open the bedroom windows at night, or the bathroom windows, as the midges would swarm in, which made it difficult in the hot weather, although there is a fan supplied which would have helped. I couldn't use the fan as it kept me awake.
-
"Lovely stay but as previous visitors have already commented, you can smell wet dogs each time you came in from outside."
Not sure if it's the rug or cushions in the front room that are causing the problem. Apart from that everything was fine and the apartment was well equipped. Very comfortable bed.
-
"A fabulous holiday apartment with amazing views."
The balcony was well used during the unexpected good weather. Very clean and comfortable. An issue with the boiler was quickly resolved and the attending heating engineer was very pleasant and helpful. Felt very relaxed and had a wonderful time. Hope to revisit. Sunday lunch at the Cuckoo Brow was good but weekday evenings food not so good. Too many dishes on offer, should concentrate on less choice but better quality. Very welcoming pub.
-
"We have stayed at many pet friendly accommodations around the country but this one was the first that you could tell it was a pet friendly place."
The cleanliness of the accommodation was seriously lacking. Dog hairs all over the floor, rug and door mat. Floors where filthy dirty and had not been moped or steam cleaned in a very long time. With COVID cleaning protocols we would have expected a much better cleanliness. We even tried to use the hoover at one point and that was a mistake it stunk, smelt as if it was full, needed the filter cleaned or even better replaced. However other than this the property is in a great location and has everything you need. Improve the cleanliness and do some maintenance and this would be a fantastic accommodation.
-
"Lovely place great links to use ferry just beautiful part of the country x"
-
"This is a fabulous apartment in a fabulous setting and we paid for the privilege of such a fabulous setting as it was a special occasion."
However, for something to cost what it did I would have expected the kitchen equipment to be of a similar high standard but unfortunately this was disappointing. The kettle was full of black bits and the pans were in a terrible state and looked like they should be replaced.
-
"Fantastic location, some parts could have been cleaned that little bit better."
Some signs of wear that were easily rectifiable that weren’t. Overall a pleasant stay even if property a little on the steep side price wise. I’d maybe look into television and tv package upgrade as facilities somewhat lacking of an evening.
-
"Frost cottage was very well situated and nicely presented."
There were however a few signs of tiredness in the property such as water leak marks, a cracked wardrobe mirror and a dirty & stained floor rug. Other than that everything else was pleasant. The view was to die and we found our overall stay very pleasant
-
"We absolutely loved our stay at Frost, it is a well appointed and wonderfully situated cottage - the view of the lake from the balcony and bedroom would be hard to beat - perfect for a couple and dog."
Would highly recommend.

"We recently arrived home after spending 5 days at Frost over Christmas."
The cottage and it’s locality is stunning. The proximity to the Lake and Ferry we found idyllic . We found everything really comfortable and warm & cosy. Everything there for our needs. The cute Welcome hamper was so lovely and really thoughtful with high quality essentials of tea coffee Christmas marmalade, new year chutney, gin and beer. It was lovely coming back to the lovely cosy cottage after a day hopping over on the ferry to bowness Windermere or hawkshead / coniston. So much to see. The chippy in hawkshead highly recommended and lovely owners who are so friendly. Food in cuckoo inn lovely also which is a short drive away. Our only disappointment was the cleaning was not welcoming as on arrival we had to clean the fridge before putting food in it as was dirty and the couch had several stains on it which we also cleaned plus the rug smelt of wet dog so we rolled that up and didn’t use it. The owners have thought of everything for comfort of anyone staying at frost , it was a home from home and the views from living room and bedroom are so relaxing looking at the water. If cleaning was to a higher standard this place would be perfect, however we still cannot wait to return for another stay . It really is a place to chill and recharge. Thank you so much Sykes and Frost owners. This place is magical inside and out
-
"Having stayed in Gilson in Oct 19, Frost was every bit as good."
Great Accommodation, perfect for the two of us and the dog. Very clean and comfortable with excellent facilities and great walks to be had right from the door and easy access to the Ferry. Despite the restrictions we had a great relaxing time and the view of Windermere would be difficult to beat. We plan to be back the same time next year.
-
"Second time we have stayed here and we’re so in love with the place we booked again for March."
Perfect location and on our second visit we experienced a completely different holiday , choosing this time to explore the area on bikes given there are some amazing bike routes on your doorstep . Apartment is lovely and the welcome pack including milk, filter coffee, local jam, chutney, beer and gin is just first class. It was amazing to enjoy the autumnal colours from the balcony and to hop on the ferry over to Bowness-on- Windermere. We had a lovely Sunday lunch in the Cuckoobrow Inn which is just a 20 minute walk up the hill. This has become our home from home.
-
"All great, there is a crack in mirror, would have liked to have been notified, I took a picture on arrival."
-
"The location of the property was wonderful, the kitchen facilities were excellent and the welcome package (including some milk) was a lovely touch."
Two minor comments for improvement; there is a hub for something like WiFi right above the bed, the hub has a bright green flashing light that can be quite irritating during the night. Additionally, the glass window panel by the front door could perhaps do with a blind or curtain for night time. There is a light outside the window on a timer; this light is quite bright in the bedroom as there is no door to the bedroom to shut it out. With a small baby who needs darkness to sleep well, this light posed quite a challenge
-
"We loved it so much we booked it again on our way home!"
! Beautiful location and within reach of all the key attractions. The apartment facilities were amazing and the arrival hamper was just perfect. We loved sitting out on the balcony in the mornings and evenings, and it was super convenient to catch the ferry (less than 1 minute away from the front door ) across to Bowness-on-Windermere for a look around the shops or a meal out.
-
"Property was lovely, settee a bit uncomfortable, location was beautiful but is isolated if ferry isn’t working as was the case while we were there, disappointed we weren’t told this when I rang to see if holiday was still going ahead due to virus as it had been closed for two weeks before we went."
-
"On arrival we encountered a problem that could have had an adverse effect on our stay."
However the exceptional, immediate and professional manner in the way the problem was dealt with by the Sykes team was impressive. Excellent customer service and as a result we had an excellent stay and would recommend the company wholeheartedly. Thank you.
-
"Wish we could of stayed longer"
-
"Was lovely."
Ferry was handy and definitely able to walk to the pub once across the lake. Fab little Cafe only 2 minute walk from cottage. The cottage itself was perfect and we enjoyed having our Christmas dinner outside on the balcony. Plus the welcome hamper was very appealing!
