  • "Exceptional, exceeded expectations across the board."

We simply could not have asked for a more picturesque setting for our holiday. The garden was beautiful (teaming with birds) and my wife was especially thrilled to see the ducks that were homed just outside the drive. ( Particularly when she was allowed to feed them. ) The bed was comfortable, and the kitchen and living room were ideal for us. Also the ' Welcome bottle of wine ' was much appreciated! ( As was the ' Welcome Jammy Dodgers ' ! ) Highly recommended!

  • "Corner cottage was comfortable and cosy and highly recommended for two people who want to stay somewhere quiet but convenient for what the Lakes has to offer."

Although the kitchen is small it has everything you need for preparing and cooking meals and we enjoyed eating in some nights and lighting the log burner, we had to provide all our own logs and kindling though. We brought our bikes with us and managed to store them in the porch. The bed was comfy and the heating was easy to control and kept the cottage warm and welcoming for when we arrived back after a day out in the hills. We didn't eat at the Mortal Man even though it is right next to the cottage but we did eat twice at the Queen's Head which took about 10-15 minutes to walk to and was really nice.

  • "Corner Cottage is a lovely holiday property."

For a couple or single holidaymaker it is ideal. Location in the Troutbeck Valley is perfect for a tranquil break, especially if hiking is on the agenda. The property has all the amenties one requires. Although I visited the excellent Mortal Man (adjacent) and Queen's Head local pubs on a couple of ocassions, I cooked and prepared meals in the cottage kitchen regularly. Facilities perfect! One wants a good night's sleep on holiday and especially after a Wainwright Peak (or two!). And I can confirm that the bed is excellent. The shower likewise. One improvement could be investment in the seating in the lounge which I found uncomfortable (especialyl after 10 nights). Overall an excellent stay and one always know it will be such when the owner provides some welcome gifts (wine and biscuits). Thank you, Linda - I look forward to a return to "bag" a few more peaks..

  • "Corner cottage was just lovely."

We had the best nights sleep. The cottage was warm, and very clean. Beautifully decorated, and a great log burner; first night logs would be helpful especially when arriving late. It would be good to also say in travelling instructions, to put in the address of the Mortal Man Inn in the sat nav, as the postal address of Corner Cottage takes you to another Corner Cottage in Windermere. We know written instructions were given, but when we travelled three and a half hours and it was late, dark and raining, we missed the turning and ended up at the wrong Corner Cottage. Putting the Mortal Man address into the Sat Nav did the trick and arrived with no problem. Although the kitchen was very small, it had everything we needed; although found kettle very wide for the space. Linda and Paul contacted us with a welcoming message before we arrived, and after we arrived, and a lovely message after our time had finished at Corner Cottage; the complimentary flowers and wine were most welcoming and a lovely touch. Thank you Linda and Paul for Corner Cottage, and we look forward to our return visit. Keep the good work up. Recommended the Mortal Man Inn and the Queen's Head for food.

Thank you for your feedback for your recent stay at Corner Cottage Troutbeck. We are pleased to hear you had a lovely holiday. As per the travel instructions, the postcode for the cottage is the same for the Mortal Man Inn. We have updated the instructions to advise guests to use the postcode rather than enter the property name. We appreciate your comments and look forward to seeing you again, Lakelovers team Property Owner

About the location

TROUTBECK

Windermere 3 miles; Ambleside 4 miles.

The small Lakeland village of Troutbeck can be found between its more famous neighbours Windermere and Ambleside, close by the Kirkstone Pass. A mixture of houses, cottages and farms, the village is scattered along a narrow lane bordered by a drystone wall. Many of these buildings date back to the 17th Century with features such as mullioned windows and heavy cylindrical chimneys and the northern end boasts its own 17th century inn. Close by, the bustling towns of Windermere and Ambleside are popular with visitors, providing a range of amenities to suit all tastes. Lake Windermere offers boat trips, including the lakeside ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park. The ‘Windermere Steamboat Museum’ displays a fascinating collection of boats whilst children will enjoy the ‘World of Beatrix Potter’ in Bowness, where technology brings her characters to life. Within easy reach of destinations such as Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains, Troutbeck is ideally situated for exploring all that the region has to offer.
